We need to drill Jeff Capel's OU team.

Capel is still a little blue dukie punk that will find it next to impossible to recruit the next Blake Griffin. I expect him to be a middling Big 12 quote from this point forward.

Anybody remember this quote from two years ago? "We were just bad in every aspect -- coaching, being ready to play, everything," Capel said. "It was embarrassing. I don't believe in must wins, but this was one we wanted to win. This is the most embarrassing thing I've been a part of."

I'm betting Bzdelik remembers that.

Woelk: "It's too bad Capel didn't want to give at least a little credit to the Buffs for playing well. While Capel was understandably upset at watching his team's NCAA Tournament hopes take a dive (maybe the Sooners can still spell NIT), the former Duke player could have at least had the courtesy to admit the Buffs had something to do with the Sooners' poor play."

Buffs need to get better tonight. Perfect game for that.

i remember the quote. don't think it's that big a deal. Woelk=something out of nothing. OU was in the hunt for an NCAA bid (which they did get despite Neil's pointless "nanny nanny boo boo" NIT zinger...if anybody sounds like a spoiled child in those quotes it's NW)....we win 2 games in conference. have we fallen so far we can't even imagine what that would be like as a "disappointment"?

I'd rather a coach tell it like it is re: bad play than tell me "it's just the little things".

more importantly for us, Willie Warren has mono. though, regardless, i do think this is a must win for CU.

Here's the thing: Capel is a prick. A typical, Duke-alum, I'm-better-than-you prick.

But without the Griffins, he's nothing. He's an average bench coach at best. And I agree that he will make OU a middle-pack team for the rest of his time there.

I've heard so many negatives surrounding this team. Willie Warren is apparently a punk and the rest of the team hates him. He has Mono and is listed to play, but I wonder how well he really is. Tiny Gallon is out because of improper contact with an agent. The team is a mess and the rest of their schedule is KILLER: KSU, @KU, Baylor, @Texas, Texas A&M. If we can beat them tonight, they will likely LOSE OUT and finish 13-17!!! That would be ... wait for it ... glorious!

I think we have a good shot tonight. OU is down and coming off a buttkicking in Bedlam. It will be hard for them to get excited about playing us and that and the altitude will work to our advantage.

Can't wait to see what happens!

It pissed me off. Standard protocol is for a coach to say "that other team was way better prepared than we were, played harder, played better," etc. Everyone in the world can read between the lines - if a piss-poor (at the time) team like CU can outplay us, what does it say about us thinking we're a tourney team? The message gets to the right people, only you don't sound like a self-centered turd in the delivery.

I still think Bzdelik stored that one away.

This is a game CU should win. OU is absolutely reeling and several of their top players are out.

I think it is a little premature to call about the downfall of Jeff Capel though. He may be a former Duke player, but he has recruited some serious studs who - for whatever reason - have disappointed. Willie Warren was a McDonald's All American. Tiny Gallon and Tommy Mason-Griffin were McDonald's All Americans too. Willie Warren was considered a lottery selection when the season began. What should be concerning for OU fans is the apparent disconnect between Capel and his top players.

Just getting a win tonight will do. I don't care if it's by a point. Just win.

I was at that game. CU played probably its best game of that regular season ... and maybe the best of the whole season (the other contenders are the the two games thay played in the conference tourney ... the 2OT win against Baylor and almost beating OU again in the second round.)

OU didn't exactly lay an egg in the regular season game ... Blake Griffin (who I'd only seen on TV in short segments) impressed the hell out of me and was like a man among boys. But Cory and Marcus Hall had great games, and it wouldn't have killed Capel to acknowledge that CU outplayed his team that day, and it wasn't ALL because his team screwed the pooch.

I hope Jeff DOES bring that up ... we need all the help we can get.

Is the game available over the internet anywhere (for free of course ... I'm cheap :smile2: )?

...yeah...Capel is a prick...and this is founded on what? ahh, yes, it's due to your personal knowledge of those really close to him - I forgot. I also agree, he's an average coach, because he hasn't experienced any success at other programs or anything...I mean, VCU was obviously a fluke...and after losing a player like Griffin, a struggling season was not expected; I mean, it came out of nowhere. Nobody thought OU would struggle this year after losing their centerpiece...and it all goes back on Capel, because he's a prick, and all Duke players are pricks, and their coach is arrogant, and their fans are unclassy, and their school is snobbish...

Good job to the CU squad.

To the Duke haters, there's nothing really to say...To the Capel haters - do not be surprised if in a few years, OU is doing really well again.

Note to self. Never bash Dukies.

Personally I think he's a prick because he gave CU no credit for beating his ranked team with one of the best players in college basketball. Maybe he isn't one, but he seems like very cocky in every interview I've seen with him.

Back to coaching - I was at the game tonight and he does have some talented players. But they looked like they hadn't met each other before. Their big men move ours out of the way (who doesn't), and sometimes their guards find them. Their guards can shoot. Very talented individual players.

But make no mistake - there's no question who was the better coach tonight.

So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt since I've never met him personally: He's a non-prick who doesn't coach talented players very well.

agreed. Just watching the matchups, It was obvious which team was more physically talented. Even Higgins didn't have a big advantage over his guy. They had great talent at every position... and just didn't exploit our weaknesses.

the 2-3 times i've seen OU on ESPN, Fraschilla says guys like Warren and Gallon have an AAU no defense, no teamwork mentality. i think that's about right.

i'm pretty sure that OU team we beat 2 years ago wasn't ranked.

What is it about bashing former/current Oklahoma coaching on allbuffs and getting ripped for it?

Got me, but I'll keep it up. This guy will make Quin Snyder look like a HOFer before its all said and done.

Capel does seem to have that 3 point jack to make the offense work thing that was a hallmark of Quinny's teams....from that era of sitting on the K sidelines with Battier and Trajan Langdon. 1. not everyone has Trajan and Battier and 2. if your whole O is based on shooting 40% from the arc with 20 attempts.....

not good. not even if you are doing as much blow as Quin did at MU does even that make sense.

or maybe Capel's comments were blown way out of proportion in the first place.

this whole "learn a lesson"/revenge thing is overblown.

what track are we "back on"? the 4 win in conference track?

thanks BDC for more horrible sports writing.

I do think Bz is a much better coach than Capel - not only has he been around longer, but he has achieved more success. It's very evident. I don't know Capel either, but most likely, as Bob alluded to, the anti-Capel sentiments stem from anti-Duke feelings. I don't fault people for hating Duke - that's fine...I hate ND Football. However, would I immediately label former ND players as pricks, bad coaches, etc due to their alma mater? No. I'm not saying that OKC was 100% doing this, but from experience, you definitely seem to hate Duke.

Snyder sucked as a coach - fine. Capel though has done well. He has a dysfunctional team right now, but I think OU will be back in a few years.

I guess I forget y'all don't see Capel as much as I do since I'm in the OU media market. For me, it's just a slow buildup of comments/actions over the years and not just the CU one. So that's where I come from on this.
