In the height of BB season and coming up on March madness and it has been 3 and a half days since a post in the basketball forum. CU BB has a few die hard fans but after that there is not much interest.

Its tough to take the BB team seriously when the school doesnt. I am encouraged by the new facility though.

I pay attention but wait to see some recruits that can actually make CU BB relevant and I love how this years team busts ass.

On the bright side, this thread has received 56 views and two, make that three replies.

Well unfortunately there isn't much to talk about right now in regards to the Buffs. Hopefully they finish the season strong and can improve some more next year with all returning starters, a new point guard back from injury, and possibly a couple good big-guy recruits.

I love March Madness but it sucks that CU has only made 2 NCAA Tournament appearances in the 25 years or so that I've been a CU fan. I can only imagine how exciting it would be if CU were to even make just a Sweet 16 run.

well, some tough losses that could have gone either way (but never do in the last few years) and some disheartening although unsurprising double digit losses to good teams....and it's had to re-capture that early season optimism. but most of us had the Buffs winning about 5-7 conference games. with the remaining 3 games, 5 is very possible. all 3 are winnable imo.

also, 5 of our last 6 games have been against KSU, MU, and KU...all NCAA teams (KSU and KU in the top 10). the outlier being OU.

i also think the conference move possibility has taken some attention away from hoops. at least on the boards.

As far as busting ass - I would be more impressed if it happened every night they played. Did not look too good against Missouri either game, CSU, Oregon State is another Bad loss, ISU on the road, etc.

The first point is to have someone step up and take over in crunch time.

Lots of untelevised games lately, long layoff, ridiculously difficult stretch of games, and other stuff going on that's simply more important.

But I'm excited for this final 3-game stretch. Buffs can get to a .500 regular season, which would be fantastic. We can also finish with a 6-10 conference record, which would be a huge improvement. Hell, even 14-16 (5-11) would be a marked improvement that, along with the new practice facility, the new recruits we'll learn about, and only losing 1 senior... will have a lot of people enthusiastic about the 2010-11 Buff Men's team.

Not only is there next year, but there's still a decent shot of making the CBI tournament. NIT's hard to imagine. To get there, I believe that CU would need to finish 16-14, then get 2 wins in the Big 12 tourney to finish 18-15. Could happen, though, which keeps things interesting.

Looking back, it's so frustrating to think that we should have had road wins at Oregon State and Iowa State. Plus, we should have beaten either Gonzaga or Arizona in Maui. Probably still go 1-2 in the Invitational, but our strength of schedule and RPI improve a lot if our win is over one of those schools instead of Chaminade (which doesn't even count toward RPI). We should be sitting at 14-13 with a great RPI and an NIT berth well within our grasp. So damn frustrating.

I am personally a much bigger fan of the NBA and college football than I am of college basketball. Combine that with the teams lackluster performances and you have a perfect storm of indifference on your hands.

If the team was playing meaningful games right now I am sure that CEC would be packed and that there would be many posts per day on this forum. As it stands, the team hasn't played any meaningful games since the 2005-2006 season and only the diehards are following closely. Fair weather approach? Most certainly. But there isn't much to talk about with regards to CU hoops right now...

Relphorde and Burks have certainly been something to be exciting about for next year. if Sharpe can come in, 100% recovered, and provide the same kind of quality minutes and play that Relphorde has this year (given that BZ was pretty excited about SS before the injury)....we've got a chance to be pretty good. assuming Higgins is back, and i don't see any reason to not think so....that will be the best 4 players we've had on the floor at the same time since the Pelle, Morandais, DH, Blair Wilson teams.

If Sharpe can come in and play the point effectively it will be a big help. The lack of any inside game though is going to kill the Buffs. Unfortunately, Higgins, Burks, and Relphorde are all perimeter players (2,3s) and does not balance out the roles required on the team. We kept hearing after last season how DuFault was working on getting stronger so he could compete in the Big 12 but he also plays the 3 and does not go inside.

Most important positions on any team to me are - point guard, power forward, center. CU is lacking in those areas.

i think you can live without a traditional "5", but we sure have trouble getting to the boards. seems like no one on the roster is the answer--Crawford and Dufault don't appear capable for different reasons. maybe the way to go is get one of those Pete Townsend looking, eastern european wide-bodies that Tech seemingly has every year under the Knights....whose job is to 1. set picks 2. give you 5 tough fouls, 3. make life unpleasant in the post for the other guys, and 4. 10 boards per. it's not pretty, but hey. RMK had two scorers in Andre Emmet and Jarious Jackson and one of those Townsendovich types and rode them to the Sweet 16. though, that was a year (I believe) we beat Tech head to head and have the same conference record and Tech goes to the NCAA and lose at Oregon in the NIT....because RMK is a TV draw for advertisers and R. Patton was not.

Interesting quote from Burks last night in the Camera:

Burks said:
"Everybody is too complacent," said CU freshman Alec Burks, who was clearly irritated by an upper-classman after the game who didn`t seem to be upset by the embarrassing loss. "You see that out there. Nobody is really playing hard and having fun like they used to."

Losing is taking it's toll right now, especially not getting over the hump on the close games. The Oregon State and Iowa State losses hurt the most right now. Win those games like they should have and an NIT spot is realistic.

I like Burks' passion, but this is something to keep private IMO. Tell this to your teammates and be a leader to them. A team should never expect to lose and if that is the case, it is sad, but he should be trying to influence his teammates rather than telling the public that our team is complacent with their shortcomings.

It's easy to be a long way from the top in the Big XII when you have KU, UT, KSU, etc. in the conference that are all top 20 schools including a legit 1 seed in the tourney.

CU has come a long way in the past couple of years just belonging on the floor with some of the conference opponents but we need some wins to get fans excited. The criticisms of lack of big man and weakness at point are legit. Higgins is good enough to play for anyone in the country and Burk is a pleasant surprise that has to have many wondering how he ended up at CU, Relphorde is a legit player as well but not a star.

Harris Trunks will be a good but not great big man with 20-25lbs more weight room muscle but we really need a legit physical presence who can bang in the paint.

We are not a threat to win the conference but are also not that far from being decent. Buzz has the team going to right way, lets hope he can get the missing pieces and make the program relevant again, if he does the attention will follow and since he is not building it on one or two players like in the past we may be able to sustain it (finally)

I am long-term optimistic but short term reality still sucks.

I agree but he's only a freshman. If he's doing this next year then we have a problem. Hopefully this riles up the rest of the team. Next 3 games are very winnable.

Our athletic teams need a kick in the ass. This "soft" nancy approach isn't cutting it. Losing has been accepted around here and the ho-hum attitude after the teams lose is sickening. Either give a damn and make moves, bring in money anything but please... STOP EFFING LOSING. This is for football and BOTH basketall programs. Urgency to win wou;d be a refreshing change.

Next year we will be ensconced in March Madness... I really feel that all of the heart-stomping losses the last two years will ultimately help the team. But goddamn, there were so many potenial watershed wins this year that rimmed out.

Yeah its pretty dead in here.. I checked during the Kansas game last week and no one had anything posted.. Tough to post anything when we are getting blown out..

Missouri is a really bad matchup for CU.. We really need to get either bigger guys or more athletic to matchup with them.

I still think Coach B is the right guy but its taking longer than I expected to turn it around..

It's taking longer to turn around than most expected because of the gaping hole in the middle this team has. If Buzz can fix that, I think he's the guy for the job and getting him might have been the biggest thing to happen to CU hoops in years. But if he can't or doesn't fix that (and his lack of use of post players scared me ****less when he came here....) we may have to start over again. A bunch of 6'6" guys are simply not going to win in the Big XII without a presence in the middle....
