Re: '11 CO QB Brock Berglund

Valor Christian moves up to 4A football next year, so Berglund and WR teammate Carzell Vickers will be playing against much better competition.

Re: '11 CO QB Brock Berglund

I remember seeing someone say that this guy outplayed Austin Hinder in the championship game. Looks like he has pretty good size, hopefully he lights up the better competition next year.

Scout has a new article up on Berglund. Good stuff! He says he wants to keep his options open, but imho if we offer and show him the love there is no good reason we should lose out on him.

Brock Berglund, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback from Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, grew up attending Colorado football games with his father on Saturday afternoons when he didn't have a schedule conflict with his youth football team.

The Berglund family loves black and gold. His younger brother, Brant (quarterback of the freshman team at Valor), was given the middle name, Kordell, after former CU quarterback Kordell Stewart.

"CU was where I always saw myself going when I was growing up," Berglund said.

Berglund was not able to attend Colorado's junior day earlier this month because he was returning from the junior combine at the Army All-American game in San Antonio.

Berglund said he was asked to be one of eight quarterbacks featured on the second season of The Ride, a television show following eight prep quarterbacks from all walks of life as they compete for a chance to learn from renowned coaches and a chance to be mentored by former professional players.

Berglund said his involvement with the show has not been finalized yet.

The Colorado program could have as many as six scholarship quarterbacks on the roster next fall with only one of them set to graduate following the 2010 season. Most of the players the Buffs have at the position will be either redshirt freshmen or true freshmen. Berglund said that wouldn't make him shy away from considering the Buffs if they offer him a scholarship.

"I like that. I mean, I'm the kind of guy who likes competition. I thrive off a challenge," he said.

I'm pretty sure the school can't extend a written offer until after his jr year is complete. That said, the staff should be on the phone the afternoon of LOI day (for 2010's) asking this guy if he's ready to be the first commit for 2011.

Local State kid? Jesus sign him the damn minute he becomes available to sign! Now the sad part ..................... god damn Hawkins!

I have literally no inside information (or information apart from what is in this thread), but I've got a really good feeling about this one. I think he signs up early to be a Buff and is a good one!

I'm pretty sure that's not true. Texas usually has 15-20 commitments within a week of LOI day for the following year.

Offers started going out to juniors in 2009 (November, I think).

Also, regarding the 2011 recruiting process, a Quiet Period starts the day after NSD for 2010. In-person contacts can only be made with 2011 recruits if they are on campus. This period goes from February 5th through April 14th. Then from April 15th through 31st coaches can go on the road recruiting again.

Okay, I'm a little fuzzy on offers. I thought I had read somewhere that written offers could only be extended to a player after their jr year. Is this wrong? I realize a coach/school can verbally offer a player just about anytime, and the player(s) can verbally accept.

I was actually a couple months off. I found an old ESPN from JC Shurburtt of Scouts, Inc. Link

...Class of 2011... players will be receiving written scholarship offers from Division I programs Sept. 1, which is the first day programs can extend such offers.

He outplayed Hinder in the 3A state championship. Incidentally, Hinder is now the #6 prospect in the state.

Seems like Hinder is sliding right down the state rankings. Maybe more people are starting to see what people a little closer to the Steamboat program and their conference have....

Scout has a new update for Berglund. CSU offered, he says he thinks a CU offer is coming soon, he keeps getting hand written letters from Hawk etc. CU and KSU both invited him to their Junior day March 6, he opted to attend CU's over KSU's so obviously he likes us.

Rivals has a new article on Berglund that makes me think we may have found our QB for the 2011 class. CU better offer when he visits for the next Junior Day:

What are Berglund's current thoughts about the Buffaloes?

"I know there are a lot of people in the media that have been saying negative things about [head] coach [Dan] Hawkins but he has done a good job of laying the foundation, developing the program," he said. "I have talked to him a lot and I know that he is a great guy and a great coach. They are really looking to have a really good year this year and build that program back up. I believe they will."

Sherman [Valor's OC and AD] said he expects Berglund to make a decision sometime this spring or summer.

Well Scout has him at 6'3 190, Rivals has him at 6'4 205, so he's probably 6'3 1/2 and 197 1/2 lbs. :smile2:

Seriously though, I bet on the low end he's 6'2 and probably at least weighs 180 pounds. 6'2 works for me, I think that's what Hirschman is? That's fine by me for a QB.

Still a decent chance he grows some before graduation, too...

I really, really want us to get this kid...

Any video for this guy yet? I haven't even seen him play :sad1: Judging by what the locals say about him, he sounds pretty good, but I'd like to see a highlight tape or something.

Here's a short video of him scrambling for a touchdown. He's got some wheels and he looks like a man among boys against Colorado 3A competition. I can't wait to see him against 4A next year.

One thing that's interesting about Brock is that when he committed to Valor Christian, it hadn't even been built yet. It was a construction project. But he believed in it. Considering that he's a lifelong CU fan and has the mindset of a builder, I really believe we're going to land him. Hopefully early, too, because getting the top QB in the state can go a long way toward pulling in the rest of the class.

Amen. Here are some stats from the game against Steamboat/Hinder. Also a little story to go with.

Steamboat Springs 14, Valor Christian 41
AURORA (AP) - Brock Berglund threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth as Valor Christian rolled to a 41-14 victory Steamboat Springs in the Colorado 3A state football championship game Saturday night.
Berglund finished 9-for-14 passing for 199 yards. Blake Froistad caught two of the scoring passes from Berglund for Valor Christian, (14-0), a third-year school playing in its second year of varsity football.
"I thought Brock controlled the game well," Valor Christian coach Brent Vieselmeyer said. "He made good decisions, making good decisions in the pass and the run game."
The defense had seven sacks in the first half.
Berglund upstaged his counterpart, Austin Hinder, who was only 10-of-18 for 75 yards and was intercepted twice. Hinder had two touchdown runs for 51 yards, but no touchdown passes for Steamboat Springs (13-1).
