The Big 12 has compiled a 44-46 record (.489) in all nonconference games, including bowls, against BCS teams over the last five years.

That places the Big 12 fourth among the BCS conferences. The SEC was first (59-45, .567 ), Pac-10 second (45-37, .549 ), Big East third (49-49, .500), ACC fifth (61-70, .466) and Big Ten sixth (46-56, .451) during that span.

Who plays the toughest nonconference schedule in the Big 12 in 2010?

We’ll wait a little closer to the season before rating the entire schedule, but here’s a look at the 10 toughest nonconference games involving Big 12 teams next season:

1. Florida State at Oklahoma, Sept. 11: The Sooners played the nation’s second most challenging schedule last season. They get a Florida State team the second week of the season that should be able to score points with anybody in 2010 and will be improved on defense.

2. Baylor at TCU, Sept. 18: The Horned Frogs will be poised to make another run at a BCS bowl game in 2010 after finishing 12-1 a year ago. They have nine starters returning on offense and will again be rock-solid on defense.

3. Iowa State at Iowa, Sept. 11: Even though the Hawkeyes lost a lot on their offensive line, they are loaded at running back and receiver and will be one of the prime challengers to Ohio State for the Big Ten championship next season.

4. Texas A&M vs. Arkansas, in Arlington, Texas, Oct. 9: Arkansas rolled it up on the Aggies 47-19 in last year’s inaugural Southwest Classic. The Hogs will be even better on offense next season with quarterback Ryan Mallett returning.

5. Georgia at Colorado, Oct. 2: By the time Colorado faces Georgia, the Bulldogs should be settled at quarterback. And whoever it is, he will be surrounded by 10 returning starters on offense, including running back Washaun Ealey and receiver A.J. Green.

6. Oklahoma at Cincinnati, Sept. 25: The Sooners face nine teams in 2010 who played in bowl games a year ago. The Bearcats have to replace some key components from their Sugar Bowl team a year ago, but first-year coach Butch Jones will have his club ready for this game.

7. Georgia Tech at Kansas, Sept. 11: Georgia Tech lost its leading rusher, leading receiver and top two defenders, but it’s never easy stopping that option offense, especially so early in the season.

8. Nebraska at Washington, Sept. 18: LSU found out a year ago how dangerous Washington quarterback Jake Locker is throwing the football. Well, he’s back, and the Huskies should be better all the way around in Year No. 2 under Steve Sarkisian.

9. Colorado at California, Sept. 11: At least the Buffs won’t have to deal with Jahvid Best, but Shane Vereen is more than capable as a runner. The Golden Bears are always a tough out at home.

:rolling_eyes:10. UCLA at Texas, Sept. 25: The Bruins look to snap the Longhorns’ 19-game winning streak in nonconference, regular-season games. It’s tied for the nation’s second-longest active nonconference winning streak.

OK State and TTU did not make the list nor did KSU or Mizzou. I think Texass-fUCLA being on the list is a joke. Thoughts??

#2 and #3 at #2 and #3?

Jake Locker.....Jake Locker. he's won how many games in his career, 10 maybe.

i'll need more higher logic than i've got to see how a team that hasn't won 6 games since forever traveling to TCU is the #2 OOC game in the conference. does this article come from the BU student paper?

at least Texas is playing someone that isn't from a directional Texas school or named after an Alamo hero.

something else. look at the captions for each of these games. and each and every one is about the non-Big XII team....thematically. FSU will able to score on anyone. nothing about OU being mediocre and beatable last year or having a very good D. NU, same. all about Locker.

Horned Frogs, Hawkeyes, Georgia, Bearcats, UW, Cal, Bruins.

I think they did that for the "ignorant" B12 fans that know noting but the B12 universe:rolling_eyes:

I don't think the B12 team in the game matters. It's the opponent that they are focusd on. If ISU was playing Florida it would be ranked #1 toughest.

i think the most interesting thing is the record v. bcs opponents broken down by conference... that poor soft p10... how do they manage to win any games at all being so soft and cuddly and all?

Oklahoma and Colorado are both mentioned twice, so 2/12 teams are playing 4/10 toughest OOC games. What else is new for our programs?

I'm shocked....SHOCKED!...that KSU doesn't have a game on that list. Hopefully it will bite them in the ass again this year when they don't have enough D1 wins for a bowl game.

That might be as many W's as CH has?

I did not know that Georgia returns 10 starters on offense. Mother ****er! I still say we kick their asses though!

now THAT's the spirit! they're bigger, faster, more athletic, better coached, and more experienced, but we'll get them! puff, puff, pass!

i love the enthusiasm, dbt... you are a good fan!

now that's funny!!!!!!!!

What a terrible list, TCU v Baylor #2? wtf.. I'm surprised Oklahoma is playing such decent competition the last couple of years, what gives? I'm also surprised Kansas and Texas are playing someone with a pulse.

I think it was more of a rank of the quality of non-Big 12 opponent. Hence, TCU near the top and UCLA at 10.

I kinda thought about that, but I don't see how a team like Georgia or Arkansas should be that low then.. was I the only one that was pretty unimpressed by TCU's bowl performance? FSU doesn't do too much for me anymore. Iowa snuck out of a lot of really ugly possible losses last season. Give me the 2nd tier SEC teams over 2nd tier ACC/Big 10 teams any day.

Agreed. Iowa will never be a consistent top 10 program, regardless of how the September polls see them each year. TCU and Patterson will get more respect from me if they can notch consecutive 10-win seasons as the top half of the rest of the MWC figure to be bowl teams again. I'm still not sold on Arkansas being a contender to win the SEC, especially if Mallett's foot doesn't mend as expected.

I really liked TCU last season, that bowl game just left me with a really bad impression of them I guess. I don't think either Georgia or Arkansas have much of a chance at the SEC, not even close to Florida or Alabama, but I'll take them heads up against FSU/Iowa/TCU.

Hopefully Knowshon will drive up to Boulder for this and be on UGA's sideline. It will backfire when their running backs are distracted and terrified.

I think TCU has won 10+ the last 3 years.

So when CU schedules FSU and WVU in the same season, they have maybe the 3rd or 4th toughest OOC schedule in the Big 12. When Oklahoma schedules Cincy and FSU it is the toughest. sigh, I just don't get it I guess.

Good point. In six of Patterson's nine seasons his team has won 10 or more. I guess I'm looking for them to challenge for BCS bids more and being able to beat both Utah and BYU consistently. Once they start to run away with that conference like Boise does theirs they should absolutely be the next school to make the jump to a big boy conference.

What is really lame is Texas gets on the list for playing UCLA but Kansas State does not. KSU plays UCLA as well. Lame.

I would say anytime you are on the road it is tougher - so for me

1. Texas A&M @ Arkansas
2. Nebraska @ Washington - UW should be hitting their stride in the second year of their coach.
3. Colorado @ Cal.
4. Iowas State @ Iowa -
5. OU @ Cincinnati - coaching change @ Cincy makes it easier but OU is rebuilding.
6. Georgia @ CU. Georgia will be top 15 and they will have a new UGA.
7, GT @ Kansas - KUs lack of defense makes this for an ugly night for Gill and the boys.
8. Baylor @ TCU - could be a good game with the BU QB returning.
9. FSU @ OU - coaching changes at FSU make this one an unknown. FSU has not shown much lately.
10. I don't think it is UCLA @ UT...but don't know all of the games.

I got a similar impression. This was written from a perspective of seemingly every Big XII team being an underdog. Odd. In reality, I say we win at least 5-7 of the 10.

Texas AM v. Arkansas is at a neutral site in Dallas.

hmm wonder if money bucks Jerry had anything to do with that one.

He does, he is an Arkansas alum and played on the 1964 national title team. We are more than fine with that, we get a nice payout from the game and good exposure in TX... plus its nice to renew an old rivalry with A&M, though we have dominated that series.

I know he went to Arkansas. Still havent got to go to that field yet, my brother has he said it was unreal. You making the roady to that one?

I went last year and I will go again this year. It is absolutely amazing... you can see it on TV but you actually have to go to understand just how absurdly large the stadium is.

I know alot on here think CU will struggle again next year, but I see the North as still being down and CU's main competition will probably be Mizzou and Nebraska. If Nebraska's offense is no better, I think that is winnable. Suh allowed their whole defense to be able to go free and make plays because of all the attention he demanded. They don't have that anymore. If CU can split with Nebraska and Mizzou, I could see them actually winning the North and getting to make the trip to Dallas. If they do, I'll be there again.
