First time that we've had 3 guys make the All-Big 12 team. Congrats, guys!

2010 Academic All-Big 12 MEN’S BASKETBALL Team

First Team (3.20-plus GPA)

Trey Eckloff, So., Business-Finance, Englewood, Colo.
Levi Knutson, Jr., Business-Finance, Littleton, Colo.

Second Team (3.00 to 3.19 GPA)

Casey Crawford, Jr., Political Science, Overland Park, Kan.

Political Science eh? Isn't the rumor out there that Crawford is going to leave the team next year to pursue his law degree?

Yeah. The release from the CU SID office confirmed that Casey's graduating in May but has 1 year of eligibility left. I've been under the assumption all year that he wouldn't be coming back next year.

That's too bad for us, but it seems like this young man has a pretty bright future. Good luck in Law School Casey.

So if Crawford stays Bzz has 2 schollies to fill. If he leaves then 3 schollies. Is that right?

Correct. We have the Veal opening currently. Thorne graduates. That's 2. Crawford may make it 3.

first of all Congrats yall earned it... secondly i have a question... has there ever been in NCAA D1 basketball a player be both an Academic All-American and a Basketball All-American? it just seems like they are usually roll players

I'd put money on Bill Bradley achieving both.

Good point. I'd imagine that some of the Dukies over the years, like Battier or Laettner, would be likely candidates given the academic emphasis there. But you are right, these awards mostly go to non-starters...

At the risk of dating myself (as if most of you frickers didn't already know how old I am ) ... I essentially grew up watching and following Bill Bradley during his college career. Grew up in the Princeton NJ area and my dad had season tickets ... so I got to go to the games he wasn't interested in going to (mostly non-Ivy League games or games against the bottom dwellers of the league at the time ... and all on Saturdays since I couldn't go during the school week). I was 12-14 years old when I saw Bradley play in person (and in a very small venue). As Hawk might say ... he was AWESOME! :smile2:

And yes ... he was also very smart. He graduated fom Princeton with a degree in Poli Sci ... and then went to Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. He didn't join the NBA until he was done with his degree from there. I don't know if they had an academic All-America team at the time ... but if they did, he certainly would have qualified. And he was definitely an All-American in basketball.
