Duke-North Carolina

Strange year in hoops. Barring some miracles in the conference tourneys, we won't have North Carolina, UCLA, Arizona, UConn or Indiana in the NCAAs.

I am loving the drop-off that UNC has had but I'm also shocked by it. They have had some pretty bad losses, one of which was to College of Charleston. I don't recall KU ever having a drop-off quite like this after being one of the top power teams the previous season. UConn probably played themselves out today. I can't believe how far down IU basketball is these days.

When Vitale is pimping his online website its time to change the channel.

Pretty amazing how bad UNC is right now..

Yeah ... and it just breaks my heart.

ALMOST as much as the downfall of Notre Dame football. :smile2:

isn't IU basically on the death penalty right now?

I think IU will get back up there with Creen. I've always thought he was a great coach.

UNC - **** UNC. **** Roy, and **** Canada for not showing the damn game...I've been stuck here for work during both games...it sucks. Hockey, MMA, and Ms Fitness - that's all they seem to care about...and curling...

UNC will be back soon enough though, because they do have some talent coming in. They misevaluated some prospects, but I do not think they've misevaluated their current incoming class. If for some reason Ed Davis stays next year, they may be very good...not championship good, but good.

I ****ing hate roy williams.

I have to ask ... what is your problem with RW?

Believe me .. no one I know has more contempt for the UNC basketball program than I (curiously I have no problem with UNC football or with the university in general ... it's an excellent school ... much like I have no problem with the Notre Dame basketball program, or the university ... again an an excellent school ... but I digress :smile2:).

But my hatred for "tarheel" b-ball goes way back ... for reasons extending from the fact that UNC knocked Michigan (a school which I did not attend but for which I rooted for for 20-odd years since I lived in Ann Arbor and had season tickets for) out of several NCAAs ... but also because they beat my actual alma mater (Eastern Michigan) in the Sweet Sixteen in 1991 ... and to my incredibly biased memory :cry:did so after UNC's big man flopped and then bled after a "hard" foul that turned the game around.

Not to mention the 1997 NCAA game in which CU (with Chauncey) played UNC in the second round after soundly beating Bobby Knight's Indiana ... and which we had NO chance of winning since it would be a milestone victory for Dean Smith (i forget which one ... and while the officials calls in that game may not have made the difference, I'm still bitter :Tantrum:).

But maybe the greatest explanation for my utter hatred of UNC b-ball is ... the FOUR CORNERS.

And anyone who doesn't know to what I am referring is either to young to remember ... or too ****ing ignorant to care about.

But ... to get back to the original query ... what is your problem with RW? For all my hatred for UNC basketball, Roy seems like pretty decent guy ... and seemed the same when he was at KU.

Just askin'

four corners was bull****.

Damm, you sound like a mirror image of me. Absolute hatred for ND football and UNC basketball. But as for UNC football and ND basketball - sure I like to see these programs lose, but they hardly get under my skin like the former 2. I never liked UNC basketball but I my utter hatred for them didn't start until I moved here. The sense of entitlement their fans have is unbelievable. And anyone who decides to adopt a college team for some reason picks them, apparently forgetting that Wake, NCSU, and Duke are in this state too. Dumbass trend-followers.

I actually have the same recollection of that CU-UNC 2nd-round game in the 1997 tourney also. I think we were actually up by 1 at the half and probably would've lost anyway, but that 2nd-half officiating was ridiculously one-sided. :sad1:

I hate UNC, because I started to love Duke after they shocked undefeated UNLV after getting creamed the prior season by the same squad. So, I hate UNC, but I understand how people can love the program. There is this aristocracy that UNC fans seem to feel with bball though, and the smugness at times is annoying. People point at Duke as the aristocratic school, which is true - they are the private institution that admits smart kids from mostly affluent families. That's just like all private academic institutions though - ND, Georgetown, Hopkins, the Ivies, etc. UNC fans are like Kentucky fans, except UNC fans are more bandwagon and less freakishly obsessed.

Why do I hate RW though?...I don't know. He may be a great person, but he bleeds baby blue. He also tried to get David Harrison away from CU and over to UNC. People tell me all the time Duke gets all the calls - well most of the top programs get all the calls. UNC gets tons of calls too - case in point: their first championship under Roy came at the expense of Villanova in the E8, I think. Anyway, if you'll remember, Villanova scored with some seconds left to take the lead, but no, traveling was called...and it was NOT traveling. Clearly was NOT traveling...

4 corners was horrible too. Honestly, in my opinion, if Jordan chose to go somewhere else, UNC would not have nearly as many fans or the subsequent success since he turned into an NBA star. This season was great to see them fail, but here's the thing, they are still UNC, and I think the NIT committee will like them over CU. CU deserves it more, not because they're more talented or a better team, but because they fought for it more. UNC will get ratings though, and ratings matter for the small NIT. That's why I'm concerned that CU will not make the NIT.

...UNC will be at least competitive next year though with some good freshmen - watch out for Harrison Barnes.

dyemeduke, I disagree with you on one thing: CU is a better team than UNC right now. Individually, no. Most of their guys would certainly get chosen before ours in a pickup game. But as a team, CU is playing better basketball and has done it in what's been a tougher conference this year.
