Who is going? I'm going to turn it into a romantic SF getaway, a quick visit to Napa, and then spring a football game on the unsuspecting wife....

Going with 8+ and probably meeting up with our usual traveling Buffs crew out there. Also heading to Napa & doing some touristy SF stuff prior to gameday.

You know, a couple of guys at work are talking about driving out there. I think it would be a blast. I just don't know at this time.

About 60% sure I will be making the trip with my brother, he has some Berkeley contacts.

In with my friend who went to Cal. Can't wait! Never been to SF and the Bay Area.

i think we are going to take cal by storm. berkeley has no idea what is going to hit them. buffs will partying in the streets.

Hey-oh. It'll be a reunion with 2-3 college roommates and their families.

We're planning on going, but airfare right now is still pretty steep. I'm keeping my eye on the cost. I'd say we're 70% committed to going.

Not a bad idea. My best friend lives in Sonoma. We haven't been out to visit him and his family yet. Good excuse to visit them, get the kids together, visit some wineries, and catch a football game. Like Sacky, I'll have to keep an eye on the airfare. This is definitely a possibility.

I'm seriously thinking about going as well. I can't decide between SF or Lawrence kansas can you guys help. SF has great food, vineyards nearby and some great sightseeing stuff and Lawrence has corn fields. So stay at Fisherman's Wharf and chinatown or Ecnolodge and dairy queen. damn I can't decide.

Don't stay at Fisherman's Wharf. It's isolated from the rest of the city and is a giant tourist trap.

what area would you recommend? I have only been to SF once and we stayed on the Wharf and it was a short cab getting around everywhere. I want to be close to some great local food and away from all the homeless people.

San Francisco is full of homeless people and crazies. That's just the way it is. If you want to see the city or eat decent food, you are going to have to venture away from Fisherman's Wharf and Grant Street in Chinatown and in doing so you are going to most likely going to come across homelessness. I don't have time at present to write up much of a recommendation of neighborhoods or areas to stay in, but if you remind me later, I'd be glad to do so.

cal in a heartbeat, obviously. but lawrence has its moments, i would definitely try to see a game there in the future.

You're going to run into the homeless in San Francisco regardless of where you are. The nice thing about SF is that it's not a huge city. Nothing is all that far away from anywhere else. If you can find a decently priced hotel near Fisherman's Wharf, you'd be OK. There are a few hotels down (up?) that way, from what I can remember.
