Will not see a starting QB named until fall (most likely)

Ugh. Hansen did not step up this spring like we had all hoped.

These coaches are doing themselves a disservice. We've seen what happens on the field. They should have told Tyler he was the guy and let this be his team. They are crippling him by the way they keep undercutting his playing time and leadership role. I'll admit, during the scrimmage it did look like Cody was being a better leader. But, I think if the coaches had shown more confidence in Tyler and worked with him to grow into that leader role, things would be different.

If Cody's Daddy wasn't the head coach Tyler would have been named starting QB.

Cody has a "history" of doing well in practice and poorly in games. Tyler has shown far more than Cody in games with far less opportunity.

If Cody is named starting QB, I will find other things to do until Hawkins is gone.

Could be. But you would think Tyler would be able to aid the coaches in their decision-making a little more. But who knows any more. Kiesau says in the Post this morning about the QB situation:

Offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau said the scrimmage produced "no separation" between the two quarterbacks. "That's the way I like it right now," Kiesau said.

I just do not get it. If you have two QBs, you really have no QBs, as the old saying goes. Surely, he is just trying to put a positive spin on all this... right? The coaches are not seriously pleased that the QB battle will drag into the fall... right?

No way the coaches are happy about this - all of their lives would be a lot easier if Tyler would step up a TAKE the job. It hasn't happened. If his "upside" is so much higher than Cody, he should not be getting outplayed by the guy at this point. It almost seems like there is some imaginary threshold that he can't seem to get over. I don't know if he's just trying to play "up" to Cody's level rather than playing his own game, but something isn't working with TH - or maybe he just isn't the QB we hoped he would be.

Why don't you just go hang out with Jane?

I could've swore we had a starting QB at the end of the season.. a few practices and Cody, the guy who has been so awful the coaches had to take the redshirt off of Tyler for 2 years in a row, has played his way back into the mix. Awesome.

It's like that movie Groundhog Day. We keep repeating the same **** over and over.

Was that playing monopoly with his mom and his brothers or playing video golf with his dad?:cry:

Cody Hawkins has proven over a three year period that he isn't good enough. Time for Hansen to play, period.

Bench them both and start Hirschman. I am so sick of this ****.

Hirschman did not look anywhere close to being ready to take over. Nice arm, but he's definitely still lost as far as the mental parts of it go.

Yeah, I was half joking. How many times can a QB losing the starting job. This is ****ing ridiculous.

There is that and the fact that the coaches seem intent on BUILDING THE OFFENSE AROUND THE PASSING GAME! We are going to be a pass-first team and we are still sorting out the QB situation.:wow::lol:

Things are going to get ugly this season. If Hawk was having a hard time with the media and fans last year, he's really going to take a beating this year, when we're down by 3 scores at home to a team we should be beating.

It's a chinese fire drill in boulder. It's year 5 and they still have no clue what offense they want to run. They have big uglies up on the OL and want to run a texas tech like offense and have no solid starter at QB?

They had their chance to begin fresh and now they will endure another year that puts cu further behind the rest of the big 12.

For anything to change dramatically win wise, it would be an act of God. They are doing anything and everything that losing teams do. I dont know how Hawk gets out of this season unless he pulls his head out real quick.

Although I've been more supportive of the staff than most, I have also been a Tyler Hansen guy from day 1. I think Cody has too many liabilities.

We all see Tyler is bigger, has a better arm and is much more agile/elusive. I watched them both throw about 50 times in practice on Thursday and I couldn't see much difference in terms of velocity and accuracy. Tyler's passes are prettier. His elusiveness is a BIG plus. And a lot less batted down passes.

What is more difficult to see is whether Tyler is finding the right receiver, going thru the progressions correctly, making the right reads, etc. That's hard for us bystanders to comprehend. I played QB in high school and I can't tell unless I force myself to not watch the QB and watch the "whole field". And even then, I don't know what the reads are or the progressions, so I'm a bit in the dark.

The bottom line is that Cody was pretty good in 2007, and looked awful when the protection broked down in '08 and '09.

Tyler came around nicely in '09, but to some extent, so did the protection. I want Tyler to win this battle, but wonder if Cody would have done as well or better in those same games?

The bottom line so far is Tyler hasn't distanced himself. His numbers and Cody's numbers are about equal. Film review of practices and scrimmages will allow Kiesau to see the details that we cannot about the reads/progressions/decisions etc.

I think Tyler get's the edge because he ended the season as the starter and he's younger. Cody has to do more than tie him - he has to beat him out. That's my opinion. Tie goes to the incumbent. Tie goes to the younger guy. Tie goes to the higher-upside talent.

I'm ok with them having a competition and letting the best man win. In fact I think the outcome of that competition strengthens the situation in the long run.

I think that Tyler and the team would benefit if they name a QB next weekend. Even if they aren't 100% committed, it will help. I also think that this "commitment" means more after a good QB competition in the spring than if they would have annoited him QB without the competition. They can always revisit this thing before game 1 and each week thereafter.

Unfortunately, I think BB is right and this drama will go on all summer...

Seth Lobato, please step up. Be the guy we need. Be the guy.

From some guys who "might" know, it's lack of opportunity. There is someone who wants this to look like a two-man race.
Gee, just had a flashback to Matt Ballenger.

I'm sure there are many opinions, but he doesn't seem to be groomed as the #3 guy --- People say you have to come in and earn the spot, take it away from the #1 guy. But if they don't give you reps, there is just not a thing you can do.

So either he has it, and they don't see it/don't want it; or he doesn't. Could be we'll never know.

I thought Lobato got passed by Hirschman and that's why he's getting an opportunity at WR. You can get 7 or 8 WRs into a game, but usually only 1 QB.

Where's the frustration with Hansen? He was given the chance to start as a Frosh, but was limited. He was given the keys as a sophomore and didn't post appreciably better numbers than the guy he replaced. And here he is as a Junior, with everything in his favor, and people on these boards themselves are saying that he's not outplaying a 'limited' competitor.

You guys love to hate Hawk. You love to claim nepotism. But maybe, just maybe, Hansen is different but not better than Cody. Maybe we really are in trouble with QB and the coaches are praying the guy will start stepping up, and he hasn't?

Just saying...

You're just saying what nearly everybody else is saying. Perhaps you should examine the body of work before making assumptions.

But you gotta admit...for whatever reason the O looked more dynamic after the Texas game last season.
