"Our fan base and our donor base creates the foundation for us to be able to recruit great student-athletes and they give us the amenities required to run a competitive program," Bohn said. "Each and every penny is important.

"So when they don't invest, it forces us to look at potential reductions in the overall competitiveness of the program. It can potentially erode the student-athlete experience, which is what we are committed to. We'd like them to understand that."
Translation: Give us your money and STFU.:rolling_eyes:

Apparently, the people who aren't renewing just don't believe in CU. They probably all wear powder blue, too.

When you are already non-competitive, how is this a legit argument?

They're down 4% out of the 56% who have responded. I think that number is going to jump quite a bit in the 44% that has not yet responded. If you're not renewing, why do you care about responding to a letter?

I think they're looking at a 20%+ decline in season tickets.

And I'll bet season ticket holders in the past couple of years were at a very high point in the program's history. Probably higher than when we fielded some of our best teams. So it isn't up to us to make the team successful. It is up to the program and we will follow. This is not a chicken or the egg situation.

What a surprise. A below-average football team with a clueless, arrogant coach is having problems drumming up donations in a down economy.

Blame the fans, though.

Well yeah, those 200 people can't renew because they spent their disposable income on powder blue attire.

F*** you Mike Bohn and Dan Hawkins! Win or pack your **** so someone else can. I haven't been in a position to donate anything since graduating but have always wanted to be that type of person... Fortunately enough I am now in that position. Now you are telling me that if I don't donate then we will be less competitive? HA!

The only way out of this is to pull all the support for these jackasses so the people in charge up there are out of jobs and we get someone in who will win.

Fans, alumni, and hell even the media made their point clear last season. Fire Hawkins or else! Now Bohn is dealing with the 'or else'. They made their bed and now they have to lie in it. My season tickets are officially on vacation till change is made.

I'm one that didn't renew. The main issue is I don't know if I will still be in the state come fall. But there were things that made the decision easy for me.

1. The Rocky Mountain Showdown- I don't want to be forced to purchase this game and spend good money for crappy seats. The cheapest tickets are $25 dollars more than my tickets at Folsom.
2. My section was the section that they kept doing the 4 tickets for $40. My tickets are $30 a piece.
3. I wanted Hawk gone. The money was said to be there. Now they are telling us that the program's failures are the fans fault.

If I'm still in Colorado I'll go to all the games I just won't have season tickets and I'll take advantage of the deals that are sure to come.

I'm contemplating a direct donation to Cross Country/Track.

Only 4%?? I would have expected a much larger drop. I, for one, will not be buying again until... well, you know.

I was hoping for more like 20-30%. Seems to me there are alot of Hawk backers out there still. Anyone who gives money for the product Hawkins is putting out there is getting what they deserve.

remember its only 4% that have replied back saying they will not renew.

"Some season-ticket holders have vowed not to renew their tickets until the program improves or a coaching change is made."

I read this as a message that fans think the student athletes and university deserve a great football head coach.

"Bohn said the department has to show those fans that failing to support the department and the football program in the short term can have long-term effects."

If only the AD itself could heed this advice!

Keeping a bad football coach around makes a bad situation worse IMHO. It's clear to me that lately the fans are an afterthought. Treat the fans poorly, they withold their support. What a surprise...

**** YOU.

Regardless of hawks performance on the field 20-30% hit in ticket sales would take us completely out of Division 1, glad that was your goal.

Well, if we don't donate they'll be less competitive? How is that possible? Mizzou will score in the 60's? There is some other MAC also ran even worse than Toledo that will kick the Buffs' *** on national TV? They'll lose 10 instead of 9 out of 12 this year?

Sorry, the fans stepped up to the plate four years in a row. Four years of increasing season ticket sales and attendance in the face of an inept coaching staff and premium prices on seats. The AD and FB coach have shown NOTHING. Now it's our fault for the misearble hire Bohn made, and then extended. When times are good, he AD squeezes every nickel out of the fan, quite shamelessly. When they flop, well, it's apparently our fault they can't find their fanny with both hands and a flashlight. I have been on the fence about Bohn, but that crap pretty much ends any warm fuzzies I had towards the guy. I was finished with Hawk after ISU this year.

They have only heard from 56% of the people too. My guess is it ends somewhere between 10-15% in the end. More than enough for the AD to take notice. I see many 4/$40 deals on the horizon.

I think 'Rino is right, the people who renewed are the hardcore, the 44% who haven't responded are likely to have amuch higher than 4% non-renewal rate which will likely increase the overall number significantly. Sad, but IMO it's going to happen. MB has no one to blame but Benson and DiStephano, who essentially neutered him.

pretty much how i feel. though, instead of ISU it was the first half of the MU game from row 18 in sec. 104. when Hawk and Bohn suggest they know more about the CU "we" and criticism makes you a "traitor" is the implication....I get a little nauseous. not being fired left completely aside, Hawk got a complete free pass the first 3 years--from the media, was greeted time and time again each new season with optimism from fans, etc....my conscience is clear.

he had the chance to step up last year and crapped his sansabelts.

That 4% is a very misleading figure. Figure this: They have heard from 56% of their season ticket holders. That's 44% that they haven't heard from at all. The article said they will be contacting season ticket holders in the coming weeks to convince them to renew. I'm sure they will be in for an earful. That 4% is the number of people inside of that 56% that have contacted the AD to tell them what their plans are. My suspicion is that a lot of folks are simply tossing out their renewal forms. The article also said that their renewals were running at 76% at this time last year. That's a 20% difference. A 20% dropoff would not shock me in the least right now.

Bad times for the football program. It didn't have to be this way. They were told "Fire Hawk". That's what the fans demanded. They ignored their customers and are paying the price for it now. Hell hath no fury like that of a fan scorned.

These guys **** in their own mess kits and now they're blaming us? Classic! Just makes me feel better about my decision. My dad feels the same way as he and I discussed over the weekend.

Hey, Bohn, many people are tired of paying premium prices to see **** football. Until you fix that, we're not interested in being season ticket holders anymore.

I'll still be in the stands, cheering for the team. But instead of being the guy selling a $50+ ticket for $20 because there is no demand, I'll be the guy buying tickets for $20...

I just did my part for the cause.

Renewed, put in for a seating upgrade, bought upgraded seats for the Showdown, and increased my donation.

so what is your solution lefty?

Well, it's not my problem to solve, since I'm not being paid to do it like MB, but I won't cop out.

MB is in an untenable position. It was pretty clear to everyone paying attention that the fan base no longer believed in Hawk, sure you have DBt and a few others, but most gave up. Hawk was as good as gone according to many. I don't have any great inside sources, but I heard from a few folks who know more than I about the AD (admittedly that isn't saying a whole lot) the deal was essentially doen, then got changed by either Benson or DiStephano. If I were MB, I would have resigned. I said so at the time.

In short, the solution was to do what everybody not named Phil or Bruce expected, fire Hawk, start over. That ship has sailed and now they have no choice but to ride out the storm. If they had any sense, they would have given a 5% discount on the season tickets if renewed before April 1, 2010. They would have had some kind of promotions other than a one in 20,000 chance to win a Buff jersey to renew. They really haven't given anybody an incentive to stay the course. It's the same old same old, "Hey, you guys aren't loyal if you don't keep buying tickets, even though we haven't listened to the massses". I truly believe these guys have little business sense. People who work in the public sector can begin to get those blinders that make them think the revenue will always be there, no matter what.

Of course, the one incentive they can't give, is a promise they will get rid of Hawk, which is what is driving the lion's share of the dissatisfaction.

The best I can do is to suggest you will have to spend money to get a return on this one. That money spent is incentivizing the purchase of tickets, in advance. But they'll never do that. They see the $$$$ as a one way street, from the fans to the AD. They could buy a ton of goodwill, it is a question of doing the math. The AD is going to lose $$$ this year because of the massive cluster caused by NOT firing Hawk. Figuring out how to spend their way out of some of that loss thorugh incentivizing is a job for the bean counters. Every business I've been involved with has had loss leaders, especially when it was a start up, or some huge snafu was being corrected. And brother, they have a HUGE snafu on their hands now.....
