From Bohn's statements today and from various leaks, it sounds like there are really 3 candidates for the job.

If we were handicapping this, it sounds like the shortest odds are on Dunlap, then McClain is the next most likely, and Boyle is probably in the third position.

This is before interviews and we may know by early next week.

Of the 3, who do you like best and why? Is there anyone you don't think would be successful for us?

I'm in the McClain camp. His time up in Wyoming was similar to Patton's at CU: Had some decent results on the court and in recruiting. Was in the post season about half the time he was there(9 seasons). 1 Tourney appearance, and 3 or 4 NIT's. Someone already said it on this board, or on Rivals, but he was a victim of his own success in Laramie, and really how long can you sustain it up there? We have a team that could be dancing next season with some help in the post. McClain not only has the current players endorsement, but is still recruiting for CU. Right now continuity should be priority number 1 and McClain gives you that. He's been Bzz's right hand man for 3 seasons and will be familiar with the challenges that a coach faces at CU and in the Big 12.

I'd be completely on board with Dunlap if he was hired.

Not as much with Boyle. As good as UNC's season was I think he needs some more time as a head coach before we look his way. Having said that look out for the Bears next season. Boyle's name will be a hot one very soon.

I voted for McClain. But it's a vote I make with some reservations. I'm kind of worried that he's been using the players and their parents to further his cause. Is he about himself or is he about the kids and the program? I sure hope I'm not wrong about him. I can see why some of the rallying of players may be rubbing people the wrong way and actually hurting his cause.

It's a valid concern, and hope it's not the case. Bzz was the face of the program, but McClain put this team together just as much as anyone. It's not hard to believe that the players and parents just feel that strongly about him. He also spent 9 years in Laramie trying to build a program, so it's seems like has some loyalty beyond himself.

If those are the candidates, give the job to McClain, although I am not confident he can build a consistent winner in the long-term. I think Boyle is the highest risk/highest reward pick of the three. Just have never been that enamored with Dunlap.

Definitely not true.

someone mentioned it on the board and said it was on rivals... and shockingly enough i guess ill break it in this thread... I CANCELED MY RIVALS SUBSCRIPTION

Definitely not true.

That's what I figured. But the talk has started. Ringo was writing yesterday about this pressure from the players possibly backfiring against McClain. I was afraid that would happen when things came out publicly like they did. No one likes to feel like he's being backed into a corner.

I voted for Dunlap, based on my extreme hatred for the man. My second choice is Boyle, since I seriously doubt he can be successful here. I like McClain, so I'll rank him last.

Others have suggested it, I like it, go hire the WF guy....or move Hawk to MBB, he can do less damage there.

I have a feeling McClain isn't Bohns guy. The AD seemed set on Lappe for WBB from the beginning and Bohn is coming out and saying they will conduct a full on search. Thoughts?

I heard that Bohn has been encouraged (by boosters, I assume) to do a full search, but that McClain is a serious consideration.

My vote is for McClain. He came and talked to the basketball band a couple of times this year and he came across as the real deal. He's fiery and he has the personality and charisma required to do the job. He has head coaching experience at a D1 school with a trip to the dance and proved in Maui that he can handle OUR team pretty well. The other things that really put me on the boat are that he turned down an offer to go with Bzdelik AND he's still recruiting for us now. Also from what has been in the news recently, McClain seems to be more of a head coach than Bzdelik was. He's the one doing the recruiting and that's probably the most important function a head coach plays anyway. He could be the Petersen to Bzdelik's Hawk. How nice would it be to get the better end of that sort of deal for once?

Well, I am severly underwhelmed. All of these guys are worse candidates than Bzdelik was, and the job is supposedly more desired now than it was 3 years ago.

What happened to the high-level interest Bohn received last week? I want those guys...

i tend to agree. i mean if Boyle, Dunlap, and McClain are it.....then, that doesn't really jive with the St. Mary's guy and others "showing interest". i was impressed with Boyle's team last year, but given a choice betwixt the Big Sky runner-up and a guy who was just in the Elite Eight?? All these guys have positives, but aren't going to cause anyone in another time zone to raise their eyebrows.

no point in continuing our regional parochialism just for the sake of it.

maybe they were interested until they heard how much we (didn't) offer....

I don't think those guys are it. If you read the article in the DP, those were simply the names that were posed to Bohn by the reporter, to which he responded that they are all intriguing names. I really don't think Bohn is going to show any cards in the paper.

As he shouldn't if that is the case. Now, if it turns out these three guys are the only ones in the running, the M.O. for coaching searches at CU is definitely the path of least resistance.
