What the administration doesnt seem to understand.

In addition to Allbuffs, I spend time on another forum that is dedicated to a hobby that appeals to those that have the means to contribute considerable $ums to a University. A thread was posted in a member section of the board asking where posters went to college and what thier major was. It was an interesting thread since most people that post in the section where the question was asked tend to be very successful. I was surprised to see that most had either degrees from public universities or had never graduated college.

The most interesting thing to me, though was the attachments that people included when responding. The only pictures in the whole thread were pictures of football stadiums full of fans, National Championship trophies, and USC cheerleaders. These affluent people, with disposable income to contribute, see the football team as an immense source of pride, and in many cases the only tie back to the university that they graduated from. There wasnt any pictures of Noble Prize winners, physics buildings, or university presidents, not even a basketball picture. It is the football team that people refer to when they talk about thier old university.

The administration at CU has really stepped on thier dicks with the Hawkins situation. I understand the political aspects of keeping Hawkins, but to allow him to continue with no changes in staff or philosophy is a huge blunder by the people in charge of CU.

The definition of insanity is to continue doing what you have always done and expecting different results. There have been no changes at Dal Ward, and I expect the same results that we have been getting. While it would have been costly to institute the changes that need to occur with the football program, it going to be even costlier to continue on the path that has been taken. The longer we continue this path the harder it will be to fix, and it will be even harder to replace the revenue that will be lost with the interest in our football program.

I knew how important the football program is to my attachment to the university, I just didnt realize how many people share the same opinion. Without a strong football program alumni money is going to be scarce. I dont think the jokers who are making the final decisions realize how important it is to have a strong football program, and how short-sighted it is to allow things to continue the way that they are.

dude you nailed it. I know it is great to come from a school that has really impressive academics, but outside of the ivy league, a handful of private schools and Standford, what school can really boast that. With the football team, I can stay connected with my school and my campus and relieve my memories as I walk around the campus to the game on Saturdays. I am disappointed the higher ups don't see it as not only a source of a connection, but a source of pride.

If this was a forum for successful people... wtf were you doing there? :wink2:

Anyways (obligatory insult between us aside), this is actually a post I can agree with you on. Wholeheartedly. Don't you just love the CU admin?

When I read the thread title, I expected a much longer post as the list of things the powers that be don't understand appears to be quite lengthy. Nevertheless, well said Fatbuff. Apathy is their number one enemy, yet they are doing everything in their power to render all but the most diehard fan apathetic. They clearly do not get it.

 Good question. I own a toy that successful people also own, I go there for cheap parts.

Is it a midget clad in leather? I suspect it is, but I'm hoping it's not. It just seems a lot of rich people have those, but maybe it's a chat site for people who like smoking jackets.

Also, I think the proper term is "little person" and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

I will defer the question to Wispy.

Not to play devil's advocate here, but you see football stadiums and championship trophies because this is a CU Football forum, not a Physics discussion.

I agree that the athletic department as a whole, and the football program specifically is an important link to alumni, but it almost sounds like you suggesting the school shift some funding from academics to athletics because a lot of very successful people don't even graduate anyway, but they do like football.

Fatty was referring to a non-FB site, not AB, regarding his comment. The website remains unnamed (possibly because of it's scandalous nature) but is apparently frequented by people of means, who have time and $$$ on their hands....and who knows what else....

Yeah, but the devil would have paid attention to the post.

It wasnt a sports forum that the question was asked on. Thats why the images included in the posts were so surprising to me. There was nothing about sports in the thread, but people chose to identify thier alma mater by images of the football teams. There were no other images in the thread. Interpret as you like.

I know what site it is. Fatty, should I tell them?

BTW, clean out your PMs.

great post, fatty.

football IS the link back to the school for the vast majority of alums. it is the public face of the university. it keeps us connected to the school. there have been several studies on this and they demonstrate that giving, across the board, is benefitted by a successful fb program.

cal and michigan ought to be what we strive for.

i am really discouraged by this administration. they act like sports aren't important at all. they hire totally unknown coaches because they think they can get away with it. i don't see us getting out of this mess for a long time. they reached on the wbb hire. they reached on the mbb hire. and, when hawk goes, i suspect they'll reach on the fb hire... maybe dave logan really will end up as the hc.

:puke:

Was Bohn hired to guide the Buffs to mid-major status? Base your high profile sports hires on money, then go low?
