What if Iltis wins the starting LG spot?

There's a very real possibility that Iltis is our starting LG in 2010. Players raved about how tough he was to match up against this spring.

Also, our best OL of 2009 may have been the Nebraska game when we went Solder-Iltis-Stevens-Miller-Givens.

How would you guys feel about Iltis as the starter?

If it played out this way, would you try to redshirt Richter?

Something to consider, since there are 7 OLs other than Richter in the junior class but only 3 OLs in the sophomore class (with Max maybe getting a 6th year and being a de facto freshman this year).

If this happened, would you see Iltis sliding inside to center for 2011 and another big position battle at LG?

I've given up trying to guess with this staff in charge. But, we certainly can't have the same 5 starting more than 1 or 2 games together.

I agree that if either Adkins or Iltis wins the job outright that we should redshirt Richter.

Next year's position battle at center with Iltis and Shaun Simon would be good for the team as well.

I would much rather have Iltis be the starting LG than Adkins, and I would rather have Ryan Miller be the starting RT and let Givens develop some more by redshirting.

My CU O-line would be: Solder-Iltis-Stevens-Behrens-Miller

Anyway, most likely it will be the lineup you listed with Solder-Iltis-Stevens-Miller-Givens.

Scotty, Givens did redshirt. He was in the 2008 class and did not play during the '08 season. He'll only be a sophomore in 2010.

Yep. Brain fart on my part.

I still think he needs to bulk up to play in the Big 12, is he still under 280?

I don't give a rat's butt who starts where on the OL. I just want the combination that gives us the best, kick-ass OL out there this year.

If Iltis wins the LG spot, I will be amazed if we have both guards making it through the season healthy. Miller and Iltis each have had some issues.

Oh good, I was worried you were going to say Mad Cow Disease.

My Hopes: Richter wins it. However.... Richter>Iltis>Adkins. I wouldn't mind iltis being in, the team was much better with him in. However, if he doesn't win he better get a good look at the C spot.

And ya, I want someone else besides givens at RT. The guy is not only underweight, he is the definition of inconsistent. Hell, you don't even know if he will show up at any given game!

The first thing I saw when I saw the thread title on the forum page was ".....G spot", so this thread really let me down.

That may be the one thing harder to find than a starting LG for CU.

I heard that Cody is in contention for that postion, as well as QB, RB, WR, TE, S, LB, CB, K and P. Dan says that it is a game-time decision.

If Iltis wins the LG spot, I'd like to see MTM and Richter battling for the RG spot and shift Miller back over to tackle. Givens doesn't seem ready, I'd rather he have more time to bulk up so he can compete with Harris at LT next year.

I don't like Miller at tackle, he seems to get owned by speedy rushers.

Move him to fullback.

Odds are that MTM will never be back in it. Both his knees are shot.

Can't say I ever understood why Miller is playing guard.

The reason I've heard is that he doesn't have great feet. This has come from both within the program and from outside talent evaluators. I'm certainly not qualified to evaluate OLs to that detail, so I'm not going to argue. We have seemed to play pretty well with Miller at RT, though.

I think that if everyone is trying really really hard in practice that they should all get a chance to play. Was that not the reason behind player groupings last year?
