Brown has been released from his scholarship at Utah: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/basketball/ncaa/03/30/utah.brown.ap/index.html

Brown led the Utes in scoring the past season and has been a well-rounded player that got significant minutes as a freshman and was a starter his sophomore and junior years:

2007-08 (freshman):
PPG: 4.4
APG: 1.4
RPG: 3.2
SPG: 0.4
BPG: 0.2

2008-09 (sophomore):
PPG: 9.3
APG: 3.3
RPG: 5.2
SPG: 0.7
BPG: 0.4

2009-10 (junior):
PPG: 12.6
APG: 2.5
RPG: 4.1
SPG: 0.9
BPG: 0.0

He's a 75% FT shooter and a 35% 3-Pt shooter.

I believe he would need to sit out the 2010-11 season, but then would be a 5th year senior who could step in for 2011-12 to soften the blow of Cory graduating.

Carlon Brown says, "How do my nuts taste?" to a TCU player who should have gotten out of his way:

So he has to sit out next year, and we only have him for 1 year?

Yes.

If he transfers to CU, I really like the move for us. We could be losing 4 SGs after next season (Higgins, Knutson and Relphorde for sure / maybe Burks). We'll need someone to step in right away in the 2011-12 season. Especially with Boyle wanting to play a 3G system. As it stands, the only guards we may have left in the program will be Sharpe and Tomlinson plus whatever freshmen we recruit the next 2 years. A senior vet would help a lot that season.

Edit: Also wouldn't surprise me if we signed a JUCO guard next year to replace Hornbuckle.

He is big enough and strong enough that in a three guard system he could be a decent matchup with a lot of small forwards defensively against teams playing a traditional two guard line-up.

Brown has entered the NBA draft. No word yet on whether he hired an agent.

It's not over yet. Let's see how it plays out. :wink2:

That BuffNik knows his stuff.
Sweeney said its a near lock that Brown will remove his name from the draft by the May 8 deadline and that he is hopeful of announcing where he will transfer to within the coming weeks. Brown will have to sit out next year, per NCAA rules, but will be eligible in the 2011-12 season.

Just think about a team with Shannon Sharpe, Alec Burks, and and Carlon Brown. It could happen.

A good day for Buff Baseketball. Boyle didn't waste any time getting in here and getting some good kids to commit. Way to go.

cause Nik's better than you. :)

:yeahthat: :smile2:

This is a great get! Will help soften the blow of losing Higgins, Relphorde, and possibly Burks after next season.

Welcome to the Buff Family Mr. Brown!

I'm hoping his flirtations with the pro-level and the impending transfer doesn't cause any academic hiccups.

Supposedly he's in such good shape that Boyle told him he didn't have to enroll for summer classes and could spend the extra time with his fiance before reporting in the fall. He may still be here for summer, but that made it sound like he's solid on that side of things.

Great news. Will definitely be a good rebound (pun!) from Higgins departure and it will be nice to have a strong tough guard in here who can body up defensively against the big guards we always play against. Looks like a versatile player who is mature and can bring in some great experience to the team.

I sure hope that's true. Would make the good news X 2.

re: Brown not being here for summer. an indirect consequence of the new practice facility, I have to think that players are *a lot* more likely to hang around over the summer with a sweet new place to play....versus slumming it in the Rec center where half the rims aren't even level and there are dead spots all over at least two of the courts....in turn, maybe they take a summer class in Term A or B and that does nothing but insulate them from academic issues...assuming they pass. Team chemistry, weight-room activities, all that good stuff.

a little leery of this move but it's mos def a gamble you have to take (if the he's a cancer rumor is true) for a proven double digit scorer at D-1....but, to me, Jim Boylen (Utah coach) seems like a dick-head..so? two sides to every story...

have to give the Boyle era pretty high marks so far.

Now official. Brown's transfer paperwork has cleared and he is on the CU roster.
