Grading the Coaching Changes - CU gets top grade

Jeff Goodman at Fox Sports graded out all 50 of the D1 Men's Basketball coaching changes from this offseason.

No one got graded higher than CU for the hire of Tad Boyle:

COLORADO

The Old: Jeff Bzdelik
The New: Tad Boyle

It’s hard to question Boyle, who took over a Northern Colorado program four years ago that was in the process of transitioning to the Division I ranks and led them to a 25-win campaign this past season. Boyle is a Colorado native and has learned under one of the most underrated coaches in the country in Texas A&M’s Mark Turgeon. I love this hire.

Grade: A-

*********

FWIW:

WAKE FOREST

The Old: Dino Gaudio
The New: Jeff Bzdelik

This was one of those that baffled people because of Bzdelik’s lack of success at Colorado, but he had a team coming back that had a chance to finish in the top half of the Big 12. Bzdelik has a system and boasts NBA head coaching experience — and he had a long-standing relationship with Wake athletic director Ron Wellman.

Grade: B-

Boyle has had a great month....with Burks coming back and two solid signees with Roberson and kid from Utah. i admit he's a good coach, but i'm not a huge fan of Turgeon....he's a whiny bitch as a coach just like he was as a player so i hope Tad can leave that behind. Turge was blaming scheduling on his team's middling success on conference scheduling year before last....i mean come the F on?

everyone plays the same schedule. guy cried like bitch as a player, same as a coach.

we got enough coach and AD blaming everything under the sun for their own failure to win. it was crowd support that was qualitatively different against OU (2 years ago), WVU (got lucky against an 8 win team), KU (turns out, they sucked), and ATM (6 wins, woo).....that made for the "signature" wins. we need to include 3 seasons for Bohn's PR point--an apology for being less than .500 since then? pathetic. the other blowouts against MU (two of them, since we are going back to 07 for OU)....CSU, that loss is on the crowd and alums. way to go Mike. blame the fans. jesus ****. no one is there expecting 10 win Hawkins to beat CSU at home last year. a 3 win Ram team.

asshat.

the guy has marketed the program somewhat well....which is something we needed in a Bronco market and high % out of state alum population.....but he and Hawkins tell me I don't what good football looks like. Buff fans don't know winning football. what it takes. those guys can F off.

and the uniforms suck. the geometry thing is stupid, the pant is dijon mustard, the helmet is green, tampons on the shoulder.

way to **** up the best look in college sport, Mike.

Mick was drinking last night! Hopefully not grading finals at the same time. :wink2:

Actually, it's my theory that Mick only talks about the uniforms when he's sober. I think he's drinking the rest of the time...

Mick is right most of the time....it takes a couple months or nonsense to make it so.

i'm like the White Album....more you listen, more you love.

And another basketball thread turns into a rant on how Hawk and Bohn destroyed CU football.

I think that Mick did start to make a point that he hopes Boyle doesn't make excuses and whine about things. I hope that too. So far, he seems like a stand up guy.

Try to keep up. We're past Hawkins. This is now a rant about The White Album....

Nice to see this grade, btw. I'm glad to see that some of the people who follow college hoops for a living like Boyle that well. There's no way of knowing until we see what he can do at the Big XII (or Pac-12 :smile2:) level, but for now I'm excited about the hire...

CU is turning into a basketball school before our very eyes. Seriously. I think the basketball program is about to explode, while the football program is going to me mired in the depths of mediocrity for years.

I think Sackman is on to something, basketball at CU was a whole hell of a lot more entertaining than football was last year.

So you're expecting the football program to improve in the coming years? :smile2:

to echo Carolina you are too generous.

Not nearly enough George Harrison songs. He was so musically constipated that when the Beatles broke up he had to put out a triple album. It's the only time I can remember that ever happening.
