Pac-Televen?

I am not for this, not quite apples to apples with the comparison to the big eleven. The Pac 10 (11) doesn't have a network in the works like the big eleven... If we leave for the pac 10 I think we need a partner for the conference championship game revenue and to also hopefully start a rivalry with in conference.

Based on everything the Pac has done to this point, and the comments from Larry Scott, Kevin Weiberg, and CAA's Chris Bevilacqua: I am 99% convinced that the Pac will be starting their own network.

Which is why I think a move there now, at the inception of the network, is vitally important for the long-term benefit of the CU AD.

I don't think we should wait for a 12th team to emerge. It will either be Texas, which will be a political nightmare, or one of the MWC schools which don't add enough just yet. If we wait then the ship might sail on getting in on great long-term investment from the groundfloor and we would have to "buy in" to the network later (the way the Big Ten is hinting).

This would be great. I do believe that Utah is qualified enough to gain a Pac 10 bid to join us, but if not, I'll be #11 all day long.

Going alone wouldn't be the end of the world, especially if Mizzou or Nebraska broke the Big 12 apart first. I'd like to avoid being the first to bust out.

If the Pac has a network then I am in favor of this, but I don't want to jump, pay the big 12 penalties and then wind up in a conference where we will generate less money. No one has left the big 12 yet, we don't want to be left holding the bag either, but maybe Missou is the only team that actually leaves? Big 12 replaces them rather easily and life goes on. Meanwhile we jump to Pac no TV and less revenue, not a situation to be stuck in. Now I'm not the AD or School President or Conference Commish so I don't know everything behind the scenes.

Somebody mentioned to me a possible scenario that just might work out. Apparently, the scenario that's getting kicked around has CU and Utah to the Pac 12, with the Big 12 replacing CU with either BYU or TCU. This would allow both leagues to keep it's 12 team minimum for a conference championship game and would have the added side benefit of gutting the MWC to the point where it wouldn't have any chance of becoming a BCS conference. The two conferences would then establish their own network that would have 24 teams across three time zones to cover. The hitch to this scenario, in my mind, is Mizzou and Nebraska. If the Big 12 takes in TCU, it further solidifies the power in the conference in the state of Texas, which is what NU and MU are pissed off about to begin with. Replace CU with BYU and then there's a re-balancing of the conference. That would work out well for everybody.

I can see that as a very favorable outcome for everybody, and probably the only way the Utah will be allowed to accept a Pac-10 invite, is if BYU is alos going to a BCS conference.

Both leagues want to schedule more OOC games, so Colorado-Braska, Utah-BYU, etc. would fit that goal.

And I don't think CU would ever consider a move to the Pac-10 if the revenue projections weren't extremely favorable compared to the status quo in the Big 12.

CU had its chance to be the Penn State of the Pac-10. That was THEN and NOW is a different landscape than THEN.

The problem with BYU is they refuse to have any sporting events on Sundays. Unless they are willing to give on this, no BCS conference is going to take them.

$ talks. The Mormon Church, for all it's piousness, has a history of throwing it's own rules out the door when it suits their purposes. If faced with the prospect of seeing their rival join a BCS conference and them being left behind unless they play ball, they'll play ball. Plus, it's not like there are a ton of Sunday games in the Big 12. They moved the basketball tournament up a day to finish up on Saturday.

That's my point Sacky, the conferences are not going to bend over to get BYU and unless BYU changes their stance on playing on Sundays they are going to look at other options. Also, the vast majority of large LDS populations are CO and west, not in the areas of the B12. BYU is strange fit for the B12.

They don't have a lot of options. The Pac 10 doesn't seem to want them. That only leaves the Big 12 in terms of BCS conferences that would be a possible fit. If the Big 12 comes calling, their rules about playing on Sunday will suddenly be forgotten. If faced with the prospect of seeing Utah in a BCS conference with BYU looking in from the outside, the whole idea of not playing on Sundays becomes moot, IMO.

While I think the Big 12 has more to offer BYU than BYU has to offer the Big 12, BYU is a better option for the Big 12 than TCU is. It will deliver more television sets and will help balance out the conference. There's value from both sides in this equation.

I believe the problem lies with all of the non-revenue sports, which tend to play on occasional Sundays much more than football or basketball.

Again, I'm not convinced it's as big of a problem as many seem to believe. They'll make some noise about it, but in the end, they'll cave if it means BCS affiliation.
