Further Proof Kiszla is an ASS: CU should go to the MWC over Pac 10

Now that's a horrific display of small minded proventialism.
He is not speaking for Colorado by aiming so low.
 
He writes this crap to sell newspapers. Once in a while he gets it right, but not this time.

Yea, give up the big-time and the $20 million payout of the Pac-16 for the Mountain Weanie Conference, great idea idot. :rolling_eyes:

If the 3rd comment is correct in that Stanford gets more state funding than CU, then that is an embarrassment.

Is it possible Kizla was put up to writing this opinion piece? I find it odd that the Denver Post publishes this at the exact same time the Texans are saying that the Denver market doesn't really embrace CU anyway. Frankly, its amazing he didn't mention how unpredictable Boulder weather can be.

Does he not realize the added revenue CU would get from joining the Pac would easily cover the added travel costs?

Bohn should be fired if he decides to take CU to the Pac? Another idot who thinks this is entirely up to Bohn. :rolling_eyes:

Didnt need to read that crap, Quinn winning a Bowl is enough for me. We should go unless we get jobbed by Baylor of all teams.
 
Kisla is a tool. **** THE mwc AND ESPECIALLY CSU. I'm sick of Texas trying to dictate college football. The best scenario would be CU and Utah to the pac10 and texas nowhere near us....
 
Let me play the devil's advocate here and ask questions:

1. How supportive are the Pac-10 admins of their own school's athletic departments? If not, how are they different from CU?

2. How much would CU actually save on travel expenses alone and how much would CU earn by playing CSU, Wyoming, Air Force, Utah, and BYU at home? CU hasn't had any schools near them in just over 60 years.

3. How would CU's admin love the idea of not having the pressure to constantly upgrade facilities for the CU athletic department?

4. Does CU really have to be in the same conference as Stanford, Cal, UW, etc to further their academic goals?

I still want CU to join the Pac-16 because it would be awesome when the Buffs hoist the Pac-16 trophy (after winning the Pac-16 CCG) and look forward to hositing the crystal football a month later.
 
Is this Baylor instead of CU talk an indictment towards the CU adminstration's failure to care about the athletics program at CU?

I did poke around a Baylor fan website and some Baylor fans who had insider information said that Stanford did support BU coming to the Pac-10. From what I read about BU's status about being a religious school...that label is overblown...BU is NOT BYU because BYU is tied to the Mormon church while BU is described as having a loose connection with Baptist churches or something like that.

Those BU fans did say that CU should replace TT. Also it was said that four Texas schools versus four California schools would be a good balance along with the other states that have two schools each. I have to concede that there are some good points there and here but we will see.

Yes.. The administration is clueless.. i.e. Dan Hawkins kept around, Dick Tharp kept around when he had no clue, Ricardo Patton kept around when he had no clue.

Still not concerned. You think the Pac 10 (mostly controlled by the California schools) really want to have a good balance of Texas schools in their new conference? I doubt it.. The Big 12 is possibly breaking up.. The pac 10 holds all the cards once Nebraska and Missouri leave..
 
Say what you want about Rick Neuheisel, but he gave me a big laugh at Kisla's expense. It was at a recruiting day press conference, and Kisla asked Neu how big one of the recruits was?
Neu responded " big enough to eat soup off of your head".

Dont' know the answer to question 2..

1. I can only speak about the California schools.. university of cal was very similar to CU in terms of letting the program slide and not giving a **** during the 90's.. Their new athletic director turned it around though and they decided to put a lot of money into facilities and got a good coach out of it.. USC is well USC.. They are one of the Jones's of college football. Stanford just built a football stadium and redid their basketball arena.. UCLA seems to be the cheapest of the four since they play in an old basketball arena (although it has a lot of history) and they play in the Rose Bowl which was built by the city. I believe we are seriously way behind those four in terms of facilities although I suppose we are slowly closing the gap under Bohn with the practice bubble and other stuff..

3. Unfortunately I think they would love the idea of being in the MWC with no pressure on them until they found out there wouldn't make any money in it. Of course their thinking would be short-sighted because if they think Utah, BYU and TCU aren't going to upgrade their programs their sadly mistaken

4. Probably not, but it couldn't hurt. Although I **** all over it when it was first brought up, the alumni base on the West Coast would probably help with fundraising. (although I'd caution in the Pac 16 setup, we would only make it to Arizona yearly and wouldn't be playing in Southern California every year).

According to this site that tracks NCAA athletic budgets, CSU athletic department revenues are under $20M. Television revenues are paltry.

Pac16 revenue sharing $20M. CSU total athletic revenue $19M.

CU would presumably increase in the range of $50M.
The exposure would mean CU could recruit top 45 Rivals classes, too.

If CU were forced into the MWC, the quality of recruit would suffer and the revenue would fall below $30M.
This would bring a lot of cuts to scholarships in the non-rev sports. It would be a disaster.

If you are not growing, you are dying.
 
As much as I would like to see CU in the MWC - If Colorado can secure $20 Million annually from the PAC-16 - they have to join that conference. Period.
 
To me, it seems like people are overlooking the fact that the MWC has SDSU and UNLV. The Cali CU alumni can plan a weekend in San Diego around a CU game there and going to Vegas has got to be attractive.

I wonder how long the drive is to Salt Lake City from northern California on I-80? I recently drove up to Steamboat Springs from Lakewood on US 40 and told my wife it'd be cool to drive up to Salt Lake City even if it takes more time. I believe this would be an attractive way to go to Provo as well.

I don't like the DP writer who wrote this article but he does have some good points even if it rubs CU fans the wrong way.

The thing is, I'm not going to plan vegas vacation around a trip to see CU play some crap UNLV team in a dirtbowl of a stadium. I'll just go to vegas when I want to (which is almost never) on my own time. I might, however, plan a trip to LA around a chance to see the Buffs play in the rose bowl. It's a bit different, see?
