So Baylor is not on the list...

Is this guy really this inept?

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe has said last week he's "comfortable" the league will remain intact.

It's like he's never seen a slow motion train wreck.... We all know something is up.

Beebe lost the big 12

All of a sudden MWC expansion to include BSU is on hold

Kinda thinking maybe there might be some nice teams out there to be had? KU? KSU? Hmmm

I guess I don't know what he's supposed to say..."I'm currently talking to Larry Scott about a deputy position?"

So, kNU and Mizzou don't bolt... Buffs still get an invite? B12 could, theoretically, stay intact, Buffs could join Utah and Pac 10 becomes Pac 12 and gets a conference championship and a TV deal.

Maybe a stupid question, but why doesn't the Pac10 court TCU? Religion?

Yup. Maybe we're better at it. But still. I can smell a turd. Somewhere this thing stinks.

What stinks is that we're back to where we were a few days ago, when it looked like we'd be going to the Pac with Texass. I still hate that idea. I want very much to go to the Pac, I want very much to do it without the stink of Texass following in our wake.

In a way I feel sorry for Baylor. This whole time they thought MU or NU was going to leave for the Big 1(1)0 while CU was going to the PAC 10. They figured the Big XII would just add TCU, and another team (they would have a long and distinguished list of applicants to choose from). Instead it looks like the boat is leaving, and they are the last one to know, so they are in survival mode.

I'm starting to think this Baylor thing is gonna die after all. All the message boards and comments from people in Texas, UT fans etc. hate the idea of Baylor coming and would rather have Colorado due to our prestige, tv market, and hell they want the chance to road trip to Boulder. Come on Scott, time to drop the hammer!

reading the Baylor message board is funny. Those cats have no hope of getting without UT giving them the ride... kind of pathetic.

I hate to break it to you but were just a bug a on the windshield. We deliver Denver. Texas? They delivery Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and a few other Colorado Springs sized TV markets. We're in the back seat wether you like it or not. If Texas doesn't go we will be playing in the Big 12 unless the Pac 10 settles for Utah and US which does not assure a Pac 10 network or big TV deal. The reason the big 10 wants Texas (and the P10 by default) is the money. Already the Big 10 has 29% of the countries population in its boundaries.

Are you ****ing kidding me?? They are trying to do everything in their power to blast us into the purgatory of college football. If we survive this I'm gonna be doin a few thank you's to the college football gods that we have not been damned.

Dallas Fort Worth Morning News has a new article up. Seems to be more good news. Heres the money quote:

"
The Pac-10 authorized commissioner Larry Scott to pursue expansion on Sunday and is prepared to add Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State from the South, along with Colorado, according to multiple sources familiar with the negotiations.

While the discussions this week will include official invitations, sources said, the talks are also a continuation of high-level conversations with the expansion candidates dating back several weeks.

Despite Baylor's lobbying efforts with Texas lawmakers, Colorado remains a favorite of Pac-10 presidents, according to a source."

I fail to see your logic. What Baylor is doing is completely unethical. It is akin to being on a sinking ship and pushing aside another man to take the last spot in the lifeboat. How many people would be so crass? Or maybe I'll say that animals do this instinctually, humans (much less higher institutions of education... religious schools, at that!) don't. By trying to "survive", Baylor is potentially ruining CU's future. If CU were the aggressor trying to take out someone, I'd feel very poorly about it.

Luckily we took the high road, and hopefully it pays off.

I'm very happy about this. I was never all that worried (baylor, please). But now CU is in the catbird seat. Even if nothing happens, we are going to be OK. Pac 10 or big 12 status quo we are gonna at least not get worse.

I would wait for more definitive word before jumping for joy.

Anyway, saw this on baylorfans

I don't think its the Pac 10 being lobbied I think it's UT (indirectly).

UT can explain to the Pac 10 whatever adjustments need to be made to its invitation list.

One of many similar. The whole ****ing Texas attitude makes me sick. They just want to tag-along with UT and don't even want to try to get in on their own merits.

Could be a number of things. One is the perception of a major conference school vs. a mid major conference school. Utah fights the same perception but their longer term success in both football and basketball makes a case for them along with their potential to deliver a solid hold on the fast growing Salt Lake City media market. TCU, even with their recent success has a hard time drawing fans to their games and will always be an afterthought in the Texas media markets.

However, if the Big XII stays relatively intact minus say Mizzouri, and potentially kNU and CU I would expect that the Texas schools would push hard for TCU as a replacement. This would be hard for TCU to turn down and would be a damaging blow to the MWC, especially if they also lose Utah to the PAC or the Big XII.

They shouldn't have been in the conference to begin with. I have no pity for them. I feel for our other Big 8 brothers that might be screwed though.

Couple of Baylor fans on their site are speculating whether OSU might be a better target for their ire.

To be fair, they did try to make up some merits but were called on their bull****.

I was never really worried about lobbying from Texas Legislature having any real influence on the Pac10's decision on who to invite because that is just bull****. What I am worried about is UT's influence, if for whatever reasons (many can be speculated) they prefer Baylor over CU, UT still might be able to sway the Pac10's decision their way when the time comes. Or is that all bull**** too?

I just breathed for the first time in 3 days.

At least now we know we won't be going D-II, or the MWC. Either Big 12 or Pac 16 for us.

Just listened to the morning "update" (not enough info for new thread) from the Chipper on 104.9 in Austin. While he does think Baylor has a "shot" to replace us on the invite list, his overall tone was less than positive.

Most talk centered around WWNDD (what will Notre Dame Do?) in a possible invite to the B10. They are dictating terms to the B10 (only invite ND and no one else) and the B10 is agreeing. However, due to the B12 deadline to kNU and Mizzou, the B10 is forcing a ND decision by that time too (June 15th - my anniversary, wonderful...:smile2:).

Bottom Line: Notre Dame got what they wanted - the press and them now being the key to all this expansion happening or not happening. If ND goes to the B10, everything stops, kNU and Mizzou stay put (probably us too) and UT gets to continue to dominate the B12 like they wanted.
If ND doesn't go, then the first card at the base of the house of cards has been pulled and the rest will fall...
