Is there ANYTHING being said in Colorado re: expansion?

After all the bombarding of the site I've done with the Chip Brown stuff, I decided to go online and listen to Klatt and Kreckmann figuring I'd hear SOMETHING from them about CU and expansion - nada.

Now listening to Big Al and D-Mac - talking John Wooden's death.

I'm really hoping that there is A LOT going on behind the scenes right now (Plati, are you reading?) and everyone is honoring gag orders because I find it VERY hard to believe that the possible demise of the state's flagship university due to the meddling of a bunch of Texas politicians that went to Baylor IS NOT the number one sports story in Denver.:wtf:

I'm hoping that it was main topics for most of the shows and I'm catching the end-of-show dregs...

Broncos starting minicamp or Hawk tearing down (allegedly) some sign Mac put up is way bigger news for these guys.

Hastings and Evans were talking about it some today and Hastings was being logical saying that if CU wants to get back to where they once were then they need to hope this happens so they can continue to play with the big boys, but Evans was pulling a Kizla and saying that CU should lower their expectations and go the MWC.

Heard a really good chat between Alfred and D-Mac and Pat Jones, the former Okie St coach. He also does Big XII television. He sounded pretty sure it will happen and CU will be one of the six. He thinks the Baylor "power play" is nothing more than politicians setting themselves up so they can say, "Hey, I fought really hard for you guys!"

He sounded SURE CU is in and it will happen.

FWIW.

I remeber Evans from his 950 days back in 2000-2001. He's a doosh, I'd expect nothing less from him.

Well, at least this is getting play up there. I sent Al an email on the 104.3 site wondering why he's allowing Baylor to disparage CU and fight back. Maybe that will illicit a response. Right now they're debating whether or not Ubaldo whoever the **** (sorry, I'm a Twins fan at heart) is the greatest athlete ever in Colorado...sigh...

This is good to hear. Pat Jones seems to be fairly connected...I think.

Jones has a TON of great connections. After his OSU stint, he went to the NFL and had a very nice second career as an assistant. He knows just about everyone in the pros and colleges. Plus, he's not a homer for anyone so when he speaks its usually his dead-honest truth -- the guy has no filter.

I heard 850 KOA talking about it on the way home, and Klatt and Kreckman chatted about it around 5:15, but then had an interview come on.

Denver Post has been running a front-page (website) story for the past few days, but nothing huge.

Baylor scares me a little, but in the end I look at what pull do they have. There are 15 guys in the state legislature that are A Baylor alum of 150+. They can't stop Texas from doing anything. The PAC X is looking to swallow up as many major TV markets as they can, and signing Baylor over CU does not do that. No matter how much Baylor wants to be included, they don’t bring a TV market to the table. Especially since they may send out invitations this week, it would be tough for Baylor to win. The only thing Baylor could do is stop Texas from going, which means the PAC X might invite KU, KSU, CU, Utah, and others instead.

The PAC X is well aware that many CU alumni live in or near their cities. They know we have a fan base that can fill seats when CU comes to town. We don’t have to travel well because we already have locals who just attended CU. I was in San Fran last week for 30 hours (with most of it in a conference room and bed) and managed to see two people wearing CU gear.

CU Can add revenue to the TV deal, and have alumni to buy tickets and sit in the stands. They already know this which is why we have always been on the top of the list.

I did hear Klatt talking about it a little on the drive home. He was against the idea of joining the MWC. He seemed that CU should take whatever deal gets them the most revenue. His jacka** side kick agreed.

Klatt & Kreckman covered it extensively, almost for the whole hour that I was in the car from 4:30 - 5:30. They had Neill Woelk (sp?) from the BDC on and he simply summarized the latest on all the talks. Both K&K were on the same page... that what Baylor was doing was a joke, but CU needed to get on the offensive and make a sales pitch. They debated the merits of being middle-of-the-road in the Pac 16, versus having a better competitive chance in the MWC. But ultimately they said the $$ was too hard to pass up.

Sandy whats-his-nuts on 104.3's night show was off in la-la land. Don't know this guy too much, but he was a moron tonight. For starters, he said that there was no way the Big XII stayed in tact. Then he said that Baylor was going to get the 6th invite, but even if they didn't, CU should turn down the Pac invite to join the MWC. He said that CU is the MWC was the obvious choice, citing Kiszla, because of regional rivalry potential with CSU, AFA, Wyo. What an asshat.

Oh, and buffsince76, what do you have against Kreckman?? He's a good dude. He's an Illinois alum, but he always gives CU tons of press on the show and he treats them like his home-away-from-home team. What more could we ask for, especially when guys like Sandy and Kiszla are selling us down the river?

Clouth, Kreiger and Kiszla have always wanted CU to fail. Not surprised they would take the MWC stance for CU is best.

Now tonight Vic Lombardi was getting on the "CU is better off in the MWC" train. Because they just can't compete with OU and Texas and the money they pour into sports...

That's probably more true than we want to admit, but running and hiding from the best is not the way to be a top program....

CU needs to get their act together no doubt.. But I'm not conceding it can't ever compete at a relatively high level again

Yep, do you think any OU backers wanted them to skip out on the new Big XII when they sucked in the mid-90s? UTexas wasn't great at that time either. Or should Nebraska have seceded from the conference when Callahan was running them into the ground?

We will be back, and I hope we have a big stage to showcase ourselves on...

Yup, and then we wonder why CU doesn't have nearly the support they should in the Denver metro area as the state's flagship school.

:stupid:

It is literally driving me insane to hear people say that CU won't be able to compete money-wise in a Pac 16. The reason we can't compete now is because Texas makes 3x more than us in the Big 12. The Pac 16 will never allow for disparate payments like that, they will follow suit like the Big 10 and pay everyone equally (i.e. if you're Michigan you get $22M, if you're Indiana you get $22M). Level playing field, we will FINALLY be able to compete. I am insane over this.
