Kansas To The SEC West ??

Did someone's little brother sneak away with the laptop to post that?

Not exactly the most credible sounding blog entry.

You know, for the original Big 8 members I truly hope things work out. Kanas to the SEC West seems like a big jump. Arkansas is two states closer to SEC country and even they are looked on as outsiders.

No, they're not. Not now, anyway. The state is so scared that both schools will be "left behind" that the state has told KU they can explore options without KSU. If a conference wants KU (hoops) then the state won't attach KSU. The Wildcats could be in an ISU situation.

Assuming that CU gets and accepts and invite, then we should hope this happens. The more schools that leave the B12, the greater our chance of not having to pay a penalty.

I didn't give it much credit, but there's some chatter out there that the SEC is thinking that it's so loaded in football that it needs to add basketball schools with good media markets instead (if it decides to expand). Louisville, Kansas and Missouri are the three I've seen mentioned.

if I were a KU fan I'd be pretty pissed they didn't de-couple us from KSU earlier, as it is.....dining at the leftovers table.

Drop KU and MU into the SEC West, Louisville and Free Shoes (or Miami) into the SEC East... Could work. I actually like that and it would raise the basketball talent substantially. Of course, the ACC may be hell bent on sticking together, maybe willing to only concede Maryland to any of the other conferences. Then the SEC may have to settle for Memphis (if they can't have A&M) and then you have a huge blemish on the football roster and one that may be fading fast in hoops with that snake Calipari long gone. Think SEC realizes it's still got it great for years to come and can afford to proceed very cautiously when considering an expansion.

I still don't know. I hope things work out the best for KU.... just can't see SEC adding them. I don't think there is enough sex appeal there for the SEC. They are trying to generate a larger TV contract, doubt KU does that really at all. The one issue which has left me speechless is how forgotten about college basketball in this mix. It doesn't really seem to be applying anywhere otherwise KU/Mizzou would already be wrapped up and CU would probably still be a FA.

SEC should only expand if they can knock one out of the park. Signing an OU, a&m, FSU, Miami or Clemson comes to mind.

Kansas to the PAC-10 would be huge if A&M can't get in. Great hoops and a decent football program.

I just don't see the SEC being interested in KU. If the SEC decides to expand they'll look to some of the ACC schools which are more within their current footprint.

what's the problem with ATM? other than the fact they are cultish weirdos. KU hasn't been "all that" historically in football, but they do have two top 10-15 type teams in the last 15 years. 96 or 97, with Glen Mason I think they finished in the top 10. or close.

I'm still very confused on what exactly ATM brings to the table. I understand that their academics are good relative to the Big XII (but average for most other conferences). They've seen a resurgence in hoops thanks to Billy Clyde and Turgeon. But what have they done in football?? We all love to give them the benefit of the doubt because of history (which isnt that great either). But seriously, ATM won ONE Big XII Championship, and that was in the early days. They don't compete with UT. Over the past 10 years, there are many less qualified football schools that have been better than them (Oregon St, South Carolina, Purdue, Mizzou, Cal).

To top it off, they are conservative / quasi-military nuts... which doesn't exactly jive with most other American college campuses.

They're still a big-time football school due to their support and even though they're 2nd fiddle in the state, they must have a huge folllowing in the Houston area, which is no small market, plus a pretty decent following in the Dallas area.

and it was a huge upset. their high-water mark since RC Slocum was Franchione's 06 Holiday Bowl team and they got spanked by Cal....or possibly Fran's 5 loss Cotton Bowl team that got spanked by Tennessee.
