How Could a Conference...

...Which had the football powerhouses of OU, Texas, and nebraska, as well as the strong, rich football traditions (with frequent quality teams) of Colorado, Mizzou, Texas A&M and some "also-rans" like KSU, KU, OSU, Texas Tech and even ISU...

As well as one of the finest basketball schools in the nation in KU, and some other great BB schools like Texas, OU and Mizzou...

Which reached television markets like Denver, Dallas, Houston, Waco (hahahahah) Kansas City, St. Louis (yes...no?) and produced games of such national significance that they were frequently featured as the highlight games on national televised broadcasts...

Fail? Seriously...how did the Big XII **** it away? Bad draw on the televsion contract renewal timing? Poor leadership? Selfish members? A combination of all? It just seems that it could have been positioned to be the next superconference rather than a bunch of rodents jumping off the ship.

But whatever. I've always been in a West Coast frame of mind. It feels right to me.

I think UT starting its own network was the last straw. They already out revenue everyone else in the conference and this would just make it worse.

One word: Texas.

Texas screwed this conference. Texas is the reason the SWC failed, and is the reason the B12 failed. Their incessant power grabs, political back-room dealings, money grabs, bad-faith negotiations, and general skullduggery doomed the Big 12 to failure. Had they been a team player all along, this would have been a kick-ass conference, just like the SEC is. But they thought they should run things. They thought that the other 11 member schools should kiss their ass and do what they were told because we knew what was good for us. Well guess what, we have other ideas about what's good for us that don't include being Texass' water boys.

UT the conference killer is the answer you seek. They have enough money and ego to eff anything up. They are undeniably a powerhouse, they are not God's gift to mankind, unfortunately, UT believes both to be true, when only the former is correct.

UT will continue to be a conference killer until they embrace the concept that a conference is only as strong as it's weakest member.

If they continue to go down their current path of natural selection, the end game would be a conference of giants. The Big Swinging Dick conference would be made up of Blowhio State, UT, Penn State, Michigan and U$C. The winner of this conference must be feared and loved by everyone else. No one else counts.

What, no Florida? No Alabama? No LSU? V Tech, Georgia, Florida State, Miami...?

I think that Texas played a huge role in it but we would be remiss not to consider the impact of the TV negotiations of a few years ago. I think the total was for something like $480 million. We could have started our own Big 12 network at the time but the Big 10 was having trouble finding carriers. So the conference did what seemed like the smart thing at the time and decided not to start our own network. I bet that if that decision had gone the other way, we would not be seeing what we are seeing right now. At least not yet. I agree though that Texass played a huge role in all this and I can't wait to see them get screwed over.

It was an intentional ommission. Nothing wrong with ignoring the SEC and those other hillbillies. They hate that.

I'm practicing my west coast bias.

PS, anyone heard from our good buddy Teduardo recently? I let my membership lapse so I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure that asshat neg-repped me just because I told him to chill out. I bet he's crying on the couch in his mom's basement right now. Not so big now are we little buddy?

lol. Turduardo won't show his face around here. We're not missing anything either. Witty as a turnip, that Turduardo.

Uh yeah, he tried to rep me too. I assume it was intended to be a neg rep, but he doesn't have the juice to actually rep good or bad at this point....
