Who to schedule for OOC games now?

So with us making the move to the PAC who would you like to see us play in out of conference games?

If it is just us then the conference games number 10 leaving only 2 OOC games available. CSU will be one for the immediate future which leaves one slot left.

If we go with Utah then I imagine we will have the same scenario that we have had with the Big12.

I think I would like to focus on setting up a series with NU and some of the old Big8 schools to at least try and keep those rivalries more than just a memory. Would still like to do a home and home with AFA and then there are alway schools back east too.

CSU, Utah State and Wyoming. Save on travel costs!!

I think it will be a 9 game conference schedule. 7 games vs our division and 2 from the others (one in cali, one in northern schools) Means we will be in california every other year.

I agree with saving on the traveling costs and get them to come to us more and let us watch a low tier team get whopped at home.

Let's play both CSU programs. Bring on the Thunderwolves from Pueblo.

Given that the CSU game probably isn't going away I definitely don't want it the day after Thanksgiving.

You know, the later in the year that we play that game, the less likely they are to win it. They come out of the gates with a fresh season and ready to play their superbowl. We always play them when they think they can still win a National Championship... If we start playing them when they are 3-7 we should be able to beat them every time no problem. Unless we are also having another Hawkins type year of only 2-3 wins at that point too.

I don't like even playing the game. I sure as **** don't want to put it on rivalry weekend.

Well, it is a pretty sure bet that we will be playing this thing for a good part of this decade. I would love to move it back a few games or at least try it for a year and see how that works for us. The only way they are able to beat us is because they come out so fired up. That would be impossible for them to do in November.

Fine, move it back 1-4 games. Not rivalry weekend. I actually like the idea of a random date in the first 1/2 of the season.

Why the opposition, NU isn't on our schedule anymore? I guess if we could put Utah in that rivalry weekend that would work but we got to get them in the conference first.

I've stated it many times, I feel that CSU is a no win game for CU.

We are expected to beat them as they are in a lower tier conference and not a major player. There are only 3 outcomes and none are favorable to CU.
1. We blow them out and get hammered in the local media for picking on poor CSU.
2. We win a close game and the local/national media want to know why CU struggled against a lower rung MWC team.
3. We lose and the local media rants for weeks that the wheels came off in Boulder, while the national media choses to ignore us for the year.

The game does not help recruiting as the top tier in-state prospects rarely have CSU on their list and likely remove CU if 2 or 3 happen. The university claims that CU makes more money in Denver, but several people have calculated that it is a small increase or a push. CU is not in the sports business to prop up the little sister to the north.

I completely agree - I hate the CSU game. It's fun to go to, but for the team, I hate it. I want Nebraska. I want to retain the rivalry...even if it's dissipated with both schools' struggles.

However, I agree with the point that we may want to make sure we navigate through Pac 11/12 schedule before we start scheduling tough out of conference teams.

I look at the CSU game completely differently:

1) we should always win this game. If we don't, we know our coach is a total buttmunch and should be fired immediately. It's like having a canary in the coal mine.
2) it adds what is, in effect, a seventh home game every year. The math that Superior was quoting was when the game in Denver replaced a game in Boulder. That's not going to be the case again - ever. This game IS a money maker for CU.
3) For one day, all of Colorado is focused on college football in the state. That is a good thing. I like it.

I'll freely admit that the atmosphere in Invesco sucks. Tailgating sucks. Dealing with a bunch of wasted CSU goofs sucks, too. It's not ideal, but it is a good thing for CU.

for purely selfish reasons, I'd still like to see the Buffs come out east every so often. We had a good run there - FSU 2x, UGA, Miami, WVU. As of now, there is no team on the future schedules that is east of the Mississippi River...
