One reason why I believe CU can succeed in the Pac-16 Eastern Division

Remember CU of the 1990's when the Buffs used to get some of the best players out of California, Texas, and Arizona?

A new coach coupled with that recruiting history is one of the many reasons why CU will get a big name coach once Hawk is relegated to speaking in front of those crazy bums & flaming liberals on Pearl Street.

It will depend on the commitment from the administration in terms of upgrading the facilities and who we hire as a coach.

With those 25-27 million dollar TV payouts that Woelk has hinted at for the Pac Network, hiring a big name coach shouldn't be difficult and a year around indoor practice facility, plus the Dal Ward expansion, and eventual expansion of Folsom Field should be able to help.

Texas was in the same situation back in the mid 1990's and I really feel confident about CU pulling a similar stunt in the Pac-16. Those Cali alumni probably will be turning their dusty piggy banks upside down and giving money to the CU AD like Obama gave bailouts to those corporations.

And Jimmy, the adminstration can get behind the CU AD because they are in a conference that fits the school very well.

June 11 needs to be declared a holiday for this state.

Remember, we haven't gotten those dollars yet. Missouri and Kansas for example didn't need TV dollars to build outstanding facilities. We need to make the investment now. Luckily our President seems to understand that we need good athletics to drive fundraising and future students to the school.

Really? Perhaps he learned this fact after last November....:cry:

I remember watching the Dal Ward center being built when I lived in family housing across the practice fields so I actually know that CU didn't need the TV money. That was a different era and donations plus TV money will help CU in this case.

CU will be fine wherever they play. The world likes to tell us that we are too far behind and we will never catch up. Same thing happened back in the early 80's. Funny thing happened, our next coach won a national championship, and played for another. Next coach? Top 10 Finishes. Next coach? Big 12 Title, division championships, top 10 finish. But that is all due to the legacy of Bill McCartney right? Go back to the 70's and we sucked it up with multiple top 20 finishes including #3. 60's and 50's? More Orange Bowl's and top 20 finishes. This is simply a program that is a winner. But Texas and Oklahoma are too powerful! We seemed to do ok while Nebraska and OU ruled the college football world.

Colorado will flourish in the Pac X with the extra cash, strengthened recruiting ties in 2 of the 3 richest recruiting states in the country, and a renewed commitment to athletics by the administration. We are just waiting on our new coach to lead us.

I want to fast forward this season, get our 3-4 wins and fire Hawkins and then go out and spend some money and make a splash and get us a big name with great recruiting ties, Gary Patterson anyone? I want December 2010 to be remembered as the first month of a new era in Colorado football. Do I expect national titles, no, but I do expect to see an on field product that doesn't make me cringe when we have to play Texas or USC...

not so fast....

if the PAC does the texas 5 expansion, CU will be in Cal once.... what every 4 years? that is nothing. they are not going to open up thier piggy banks for that. its no different than it has been for the last decade.

look, the greatest plus for CU going to the PAC was a 12 team conference where CU had an annual presence in Cal. if the texas 5 comes, that is blown out of the water. we will be in the Big XII south plus arizona. games on the road will be split between Ca, Or and Wa.

that will make no difference to the CU alum in cal.

what we need is, at most, texas to come. second to that would be Utah. or maybe just UT, OU and OSU. i could live with that as well for a Pac 14. that would allow some more games in Cal.

remember, one of the biggest arguments about CU in the Pac had to due with the alumni base there. if CU only plays there once every 4 years or so, what f-ing good does that alumni base due us?

if CU gets a good showing in Cal with at least one game a year, then im wit ya! if they are in cal once every 2 to 4 years? no way.

If the go to the Pac 16, I think they'll go to a 9 game schedule with two a year being against the West. One home and one away. I was hoping for the "pod" thing, myself.

A positive will be that we will be on the Pac television network, so many of our games will be televised in California, if not played there. Also, there are 35,000 alum in the Pac and only arout 11,000 in the Big XII. That will be a big boost, especially for fund raising. I'm thinking this move will really boost donations.

By having CU play against the Texas and Arizona schools, the CU alumni from most of Big 12 country will continue to support the Buffs. Having the support of all the CU alumni from California, Arizona, and Texas would really benefit CU.

CU will still have one game on the WEST COAST a year and the west coast Buffs can plan on going to one CU game in their area a year. Plus the CU admin will have no choice but to let the AD seriously upgrade their facilities to compete with those Arizona, Oklahoma, and Texas schools. Do not underestimate what those Arizona schools are capable of in football too.

The Pac-16 idea really needs to gain more traction with CU fans.

I still say a 7-5 Ha(HOMERUN HIRE)wk is retained per UNLEASH HELL - the GURU of college football.

no. if its a Pac 16, CU will not get one game a year in cal. they will have two games a year vs the west schools. one will be at home. one will be on the road. it will rotate between USC, UCLA, CAL, Stanford, OU, OSU, UW and WSU. here is what you will see vs the west schools.....

'12 @USC home vs WSU
'13 home vs USC @wsu no game in cal
'14 @UCLA home vs UW
'15 home vs UCLA @ UW no game in cal
'16 @ CAL home vs OSU
'17 home vs CAL @ OSU no game in cal
'18 @ Stanford home vs Oregon
'19 home vs Stanford @ Oregon no game in cal

or mix and jumble them. you have 4 cal schools and 4 non-cal schools. no matter how you cut it, you are not going to be in cal every year and do a home and home series with each school during the cycle.

or im missing something here.

4DemBuffs,

CU is scheduled to play Frenso State in California in 2012.

It looks like the 49ers will build a new stadium in Santa Clara which is near San Jose. The Buffs can do another series with San Jose State in the new 49ers stadium and the same goes for Frenso State. Keep an eye on the SD Chargers stadium issue...if they build a new stadium in the SD area, SDSU will play at that stadium.

UNLV, Nevada, and Boise State would be workable non-conference games for CU alumni from the west coast to watch CU from a reasonable distance at those places. And remember the great Mike Bohn was the AD at SDSU and has those MWC connections.

CU can work around those issues.
