BYU's long standing rivalry with Utah has provided us with a depth of smack talk that we will happily arm you with. I'm sure there are plenty of items that Utah hopes don't follow them to the Pac12, i.e. their fetish with pirates, Kyle Whittingham holding opposing teams accountable, can't fill the stadium unless they give out free tickets. So when the time comes and they come to your board just reply to any smack talk with the following. You may not know what it means but they certainly will
1. Aaaaargh, Matie
2. KW will hold them accountable
3. Little Brother
4. Pumping Gas
5. Pizza Delivery
6. Gymnastics
7. Rice Eccles, the stadium the Olympics built
8. Went to Utah because you couldn't get into BYU (They love this one, sends them into convulsions)
9. Utefans.net server "going down" after 06 loss to BYU

That should get you guys started. They've been a great rival and if I'm being honest, as a byu fan it kills me to see them move on to the big show and we stay behind. They have been a great rival and you guys will love ute fans.

You know, if Utah ends up in the Pac-12 with us, we're going to have lots and lots of Utah folks dropping by over the years. Are we really going to go to insulting the Mormon beliefs with every one of them?? :huh:

Yeah. Even I think that's classless and I took a dump on the hood of some POS Honda with Nebraska plates and then filled the tank with diesel fuel and slashed the tires.

It's a valid point, but Jedediah did start this thread with the nature of name-calling in mind so it's kind of inviting it.

BYUBuff, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on your school's no-sports-on-Sunday policy that possibly limits its chance to swim upstream in this conference heist.

Do most Cougars firmly stand by it on principle, or are some wishing they would just cave in order to better the school's future? Tough call.
 
Also, I never understoood this. God says rest on Sundays. Sports are recreation, thus "resting." You can praise the Lord on high while playing on Sundays. But, I also know jack about the mormon faith.
 
Good question. No doubt there are individuals who wish that a softer stance would be taken on the Sunday play issue. Collectively, I think BYU fans would rather stick to their beliefs even at the expense of BYU athletics. There is no way the Church or the University will budge on the Sunday play issue. BYU Athletics exists primarily to increase the visibility of the University and the Mormon religion. In fact several years ago under Gary Crowton there were a few scandals including rape allegations involving some football players. Obviously the Church hierarchy was not happy with the negative publicity brought to the University. That philosophy caused fans to worry that if more scandals arose, the Church could possibly take action and do away with sports programs at BYU. Bronco Mendenhall was hired to first and foremost to run a clean program and winning would be nice if he could.

I'm not in the church, and I never went to BYU, so I could be completely full of sh*t on the subject, but... I think if a BCS conference came calling and told BYU that it would pay them $15MM+/Year but they had to play on Sundays, they'd do it.

"What, that 'no play on Sundays' rule was more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule, everybody knows that".

Good answer.

So what's the take on a guy like Jim McMahon? He obviously raised the visibility of the program but his antics weren't necessarily a positive reflection of the University.

You know I'm not a big fan of religion Sacky, but it's a lot easier for me to support a religious institution like BYU who won't sacrifice their principles for BCS Conference money, than say some Baptist School in Texas (hypothetically speaking, you understand) which will outright lie to get their greedy hands on that cash.

This right here is a true example of a fan of the Team Down South. Hates the U so much that he'd rather come over here and blast it that talk about his own team.

Here are a couple of things to refute the statements above:

3. They wouldn't know what a BCS win is, well actually they do now they beat us last season in OT with our Freshman QB
6. They hate on Gymnastics because we are in the Top 2 every year and their teams sucks
8. Went to the U because they can learn what they want from Professors who aren't afraid to teach something that hasn't been pre-approved from the Church leadership.

We've never thrown beer on any QB's parents. This is all you need to know about the source that spread that trash hated the fact he was picked off 5 times the year before (should have been 9):

yeah, but still. It's not really hateworthy, frankly it's kind of refreshing. You may or may not understand how toxic our hate/hate relationship with the huskers might have been. So toxic, in fact, gymnastics were never discussed. In fact, when gymnastics enter the conversation, it seems to me there are not enough things to hate about each other.

But just in case, I'll watch American Anthem a few times before we play the Utes next. mmmmmmm, Janet Jones in teh 80's...
