Gotta love Slim. He lives in Hygiene and calls in to Irv and Joe from time to time. Since I hardly ever listen to them, I hadn't heard Slim in a while.

At any rate, he claims that he has kowledge that it was all but a done deal that Troy Calhoun was going to replace Hawkins until Bensen nixed the firing. Has anyone heard that? He also believes that Calhoun will, indeed, eventually replace Hawkins. Interesting.

Oops. Misspelled "Hygiene" in the thread title.

Huh, not the name I've seen speculated. I do hope that unlike the basketball search we actually consider candidates from outside the state of Colorado.

A couple, there were some rumors going around that there was interest in Golden from Temple and the O-Coordinator from Bama, who I think originally came from Fresno State so he has some Cali ties.

Fedora is a Texas guy. But I like that. He can recruit Texas and hire a guy on his staff with west coast knowledge. With CU heading west, he could learn on the fly. That's not a big deal IMO.

I Don't Know ....

I have all the respect in the world for Troy Calhoun, but I'm not sold that he would be the guy to take over. Bzzz had great success at AFA, and I believe that a lot of it was because he had a team of highly motivated, diciplined players. He improved the Buffs considerably, but CU never, ever looked anything remotely like Bzzz's AF teams. I think Troy is the perfect fit at AF, as he understands what it takes to win there, understands the limitations of coaching there. I'm not sure that he would even consider leaving the Academy, especially for a train wreck up north.

You mean Joe Scott's AF teams, right? :smile2:

We don't need somebody to come in here and avoid screwing it up. It's already screwed up. We need somebody to clean up the mess. There's a big difference between cleaning up a mess and keeping a house clean. Hawk kept a nice, tidy house in Boise. When he moved to Boulder, he thought that working on little things would eventually get the house clean. It didn't.

I think Troy is great for AFA and I know he would be a hit with a good portion of the locals but I don't want to hire another mid major guy. Our next coach needs to be a guy with a lot of current experience playing against the big boys in a big time conference. I don't want to take another risk with a guy who has been doing well in the lower leagues like Hawk. I either want a guy with a lot of current experience in the NFL or a offensive/defensive coordinator/assistant head coach at a BCS school. I think Troy would be great if we were going 8-4 or 7-5 on a regular basis and just needed a little more to get over the hump but I think outside of Colorado he won't do much to get the young kids excited to come here. We have fallen too far in the last four seasons to take a risk on him.

he also did some time at Florida (Zook) and a year at AFA. neither of which are Cali, true, but aren't bad on the resume (minus the Zookstink)...SEC heavy and some prior experience in CO with Fisher. I think his O would sell itself pretty well on the recruiting trail and if success followed....you sell your success.

The next coach needs to have strong California recruiting ties and must be able to get some good assistants in here. I'm also assuming that he can gameplan/make adjustments better than Hawkins, which kind of goes without saying.

Colorado native Zac Robinson had some mammoth games with Fedora at the OC helm at OSU. He'd be my first choice. Just seeing him on TV down here on the news and stuff, I liked his approach and style. He's the anti-Hawk -- no-nonsense, straight-talker and gave results.

They're kind of like the guy in Weekend at Bernie's. They are being propped up but are no longer actually living.

i hope they are still doing the "Sandy Koufax is overrated" show along with the "John Elway is overrated" show with Joe as devil's advocate....i probably heard both of those in the late 90's 4 or 5 times. best was when Irv would steal his material straight from the Boulder Daily Camera sports page. If you had read the BDC, you knew Irv's stuff for later that afternoon. before the internet, if you didn't live in Boulder....how would you know?

of course, that was when Dan Creedon was running things and the BDC (before the Gannetts, Scripps Howard etc. musical chairs of acquisitions)...had a great sports page.

Slim, who claims not to be an insider, said to Irv, if there is anyone in the media who has an inside scoop on what has been going on behind the scenes, its you. Now that Greg is gone, can you shed some light on things. Irv claimed that Greg would never tell his dad anything. Not now and not when he was on Mac's staff. Apparently Greg told Mac, "Don't worry about me. I never tell my dad a thing."
