Top ten CU games in Big 12 history

Make a list of the top CU Big 12 games in Big 12 history (96-current). Heres mine.

10. CU 38 Kansas st. 31 2004. Klatt to Big Play Monteih (sp) on last play.
9. CU 26 NU 20 2004. CU's only time to win two straight in Lincoln.
8. CU 65 NU 51 2007. CU's most points scored against NU.
7. CU 38 OU 24 1999. Buffs close out decade undefeated against a resurgent OU team.
6. CU 12 KSU 0 1996. Buffs shut out a good KSU team in ice bowl
5. CU 35 KSU 31 2002. CU wins shootout in battle for Big 12 north.
4. CU 28 NU 13 2002. CU wins in Lincoln for first time in 12 years.
3. CU 27 OU 24 2007. CU shocks #3 sooners.
2. CU 39 UT 37 2001. CU wins 1st and only big 12 title.
1. CU 62 NU 36 2001. Buffs crush #1 BCS Nebraska in one of biggest wins in schools history.

Kind of forgot how much more even the NU/CU series has been over the last decade. Definitely a symptom of their decline, but still. Even last year wasn't a gimme for them.

Hard to argue with that list in terms of importance. Some of the games in 2001 leading up to Nebraska and Texas were huge as well, @ KSU, @ OSU, and @ ISU. For me, the win over Texas is #1 because it came with hardware.

2002 game against KjSU should be third. Was a much better played game than the OU game in 2007.

1st one is the Big 12 title game since it was our first conference championship in 10 years.

Nice list. I too agree that the Big XII CG should top the list... sent us to the BCS. Plus, our route of NU in '01 was tainted somewhat since they were still sent to the NCG.

It's a good list, Leash. Maybe too heavy on KSU and Nebraska for my taste.
It's hard to choose the #1 spot. 62-36 against NU is hands down the top candidate for a game at Folsom. The 39-37 CCG win over UT in 2001 came shortly thereafter. Both those games are linked together as CU's brightest moment in Big 12 play.

47-30 CU @ UT in 1997 is big because it's CU's only B12 win in Austin.
31-26 CU @ TT in 2007 was CU's only win in Lubbock in the history of the program. It was against Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree. Jordon Dizon and Terrance Wheatly both had monster games.
27-25 CU @ OU in 1998 deserves mention as winning in Norman is always special.
16-6 CU @ #12 KSU in 2001 was my first and only trip to Manhattan, and it was fun to play spoiler against Snyder, which set up CU's run for the CCG.

I miss the days when CU was relevant.

The 2007 win over OU is too high on that list.

certainly hasn't taken on the significance we might have hoped at the time. instead of a building block to something great (proof of Hawk's "vision"), now it looks like a fluke and OU looking ahead to the RRS.

Good list, totally agree with #1-5, the rest are important as well but the order may different.

I can't argue with #1 & 2, bt I will say that the 02 game with KSU was one of the most exciting games I've seen in Folsom. The long plays from scrimmage in that game were bonkers. Calhoun, Bloom and Brown all had TD's of over 60 yards, and Strickland's hit near he goal line was a true big play ( and it was just below our seats in 215 - sweeeet!).

I watched that game with my Dad, and we just began shaking our heads at the big plays, as the Cats had a few that day, too. Putting aside rooting interests, it was as fun of a game as any I've seen live.

overall, i might figure out a way to work in one of the early Big XII wins over UT or ATM. I think we beat them both in 96 or 97. and that's when RC had good aggy teams.

my fave game of the Rick era was beating top 5 ATM at Folsom and shutting down Heisman candidate McElroy. I was there. but that was 95 i think...so, doesn't count.

I was at that ATM game in '95 too. Unbelievably exciting environment. Plus students could still drink beer at games back then and it was roudy.

Gotta go with anytime we beat Nebraska, most notably 2001. Much bigger win than the UT championship game in my mind. Plus if Mack Brown hadn't been so stubborn about playing Chris Simms over Major Applewhite, we probably would have lost that game. Major was killing us once he came in.

Yes that 95 win over A&M was also a huge one because A&M came into Boulder ranked #3, but as you said that was the year before the Big 12 started.

Leeland McElroy or whatever, A&M was good back then. Didnt Hessler come in and throw a bomb to someone in that game?

The reason I didn't put the '95 A&M game was because we were not in the same conference as them that year. I was doing games against our conference during the Big 12's exsistence.
