How y'all doing Buff fans? KSBuff checking in from KSJuco Wildcat country. I've been lurking around the board for a little while. Im pretty optimistic about this upcoming season I believe the boys will get it done.

Welcome!

Isn't there a JUCO in Hutchinson that puts out a lot of D1 players every year?

Yes, Buffnik there is. They have some amazing talent over at that school(went to a couple spring practices). Us town's folk are expecting huge things from the Blue Dragons this year.

Make sure to wear your Buff gear next time you go. We could use some of those guys. :wink2:

You going to make it to Folsom this year or the game in Lawrence?

I only wish that we could get them but the majority of the best players were placed there by a university(UNC, KSJU, Miami, Troy, Missou, Georgia) and of course our own Shaun Simon. That kid is PHENOMENAL all the coaches rave about this kid I can't wait for him to be in the Black & Gold. It's no question that he would've been the starting center last fall if he was on campus. The kid is 6'2 with a 7'3 wingspan!

There are still a few of us crazies around. I don't see any worse than 7-5 and think we have a shot at winning the conference. I'd pick us to win it, but we've got the toughest path of the teams I see as the best 3 in the North (Nebraska, Mizzou and CU) since we play both of them on the road.

Im not saying i hope they lose by any means, it just saddens me that I go in to this season with really no expectation whatsoever...this is a first for me.

Lay down the crack pipe and slowly back away...

Going into last year I thought we'd be no worse than 8-4. You remember last year, right? The year where we had a healthy, seasoned offensive line, a great stable of 4 running backs, and some incoming talent at WR that was just going to put us over the top?

Yeah, I remember that too. Would you say we're stronger going into this year or weaker?

Would you say we're stronger going into this year or weaker?

Much stronger.

We return everything on both our lines, our skill position starters are back (with a trade of Simas for Clemons), 3/4 DBs (with the 4th being maybe the best athlete on the team in Polk), and even at LB we return a ton of starting experience with more speed and talent than we lost.

The only downward trend has been in coaching results. But we've definitely got a talent gain, not a talent drain.

I think we'll miss Chap Brown from last year's team. Orms has more upside, but he won't be as productive as a freshman as Chap was as a senior. No way. Drescher will probably be missed as a snapper. But I actually think that our other senior losses will be washes or upgrades with their replacements: DiLallo to Grossnickle / Smart to Major / Geer to Deehan / Burney to Polk / Burton to Sipili.

Do you really see that we lost much?

(I get the Hawkins argument. I don't buy the talent argument, though. We've out-recruited Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State by quite a lot.)

The only thing that Sacky sees is a hatred for Hawkins that is rather disturbing.

Yes, we lost our best wide receiver and the guy who was supposed to be the #2 WR by many folks. We lost a ton of depth at RB and our defensive backfield is not as strong.

Who is going to be our quarterback? That's far from settled.

Givens at RT? Maybe. Maybe not. Where is Miller going to play? Who will the Center be? Stevens? Will MTM be back? Hell if I know. Thornton is an unknown at TE. We all *THINK* he'll be good, but that's more hope than anything. Basically, we have question marks up and down the entire offense. On defense, the one thing we all seem to be pretty satisfied with is the defensive line. Have we upgraded at all at LB? Rippy? Maybe - again, he's an unknown. Other than a few spots along the DL and safety (where we're gawd awfully thin), we have question marks all over the place on defense, too.

And that brings us to special teams. Who's going to kick? Who's going to punt? Who's going to return kicks? Who's going to return punts? Do any of us really know? NO. We don't. So basically, we have question marks across the board at nearly every position on the field. Yes, we have some guys who we *THINK* are pretty good. At least they should be. Hopefully. If all goes well.

The only thing that Sacky sees is a hatred for Hawkins that is rather disturbing.

See above. I'm not falling into the trap of looking at our roster and saying "oh, well, we should be pretty good" again.

I'm not sure that's the question. We were 3-9 last year. To be 7-5 or better isn't just going to take not losing anybody. It's going to take a lot of improvement. I really don't see where we can expect that to come from. Sure the returning guys should theoretically be somewhat better. But to add 4 wins I think you have to add more talent on the field. I don't see where that's going to come from, honestly.

I start with the premise that last year's 3-9 record was the team playing below the level of its talent. I'm counting on the coaches to get these guys to play up to their talent. Basically, to do an average coaching job. To me, that equals around 7 wins because I believe we have a better roster (talent plus experience) than CSU, Hawaii, Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State. A good coaching job would be winning the games we should and pulling an upset or two on top of that from the Cal, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska group.

I'm starting to get excited about this football season because we will have more upperclassmen starters than underclassmen starters for the first time in three years and that should translate into a winning season. Given how strong and deep the Big 12 is and looking back, you have to wonder about if CU was going to have some losing seasons regardless who the coach was.

I believe we can beat CSU, Hawaii, KU, KSU, BU, TT, and ISU for at least seven wins plus I am hoping we will be competitive against Cal, UGA, OU, and NU (I still believe we can knock off NU this year).

I post as Bone Crusher on www.pac12fans.com so why don't you bums come over and post away!
