You catch this in one of the linked articles? Looks lie in order to keep the Conf. together if there is no new media deal or increased revenues part of the distributions from the five schools below will go to OU/UT/aTm? Am I reading that wrong?

On June 15, the day after the Big 12 officially survived, Beebe wrote Texas Tech president Guy Bailey, at athletic director Gerald Myers' request, and detailed an agreement by five of the remaining universities to guarantee Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma at least $20 million in revenue for 2012-13, the first year of a new media agreement, in order to retain the schools in the league.

Tech – which was wooed by the Pac-10 – was not included in the special status agreed to by Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri and Baylor, or "The five universities," Beebe wrote, "that likely would have had to rebuild the conference."

Beebe said estimates of a new media contract meant the guarantee may not be needed. The money would come out of the revenue distributions the five schools received.

I didn't catch that. I was too intrigued by the idea of Mike Leach living in Key West.

Anyhoo - the idea that the remaining Big 12 schools will be able to swing a deal that would provide that kind of money seems crazy to me. They simply don't have the juice. I bet the little 7 do end up subsidizing the big 3. What a mess. It reminds me of Lando making a deal with Darth Vader. "This deal just keeps getting worse".

But it's NOT the "little 7" subsidizing the "BIG 3". It's the "forgotten 5!"

And that is where the rub in this thing is going to come before it is all said and done. KU, KSU, ISU, Baylor, and Mizzou made unilateral decisions to defer part of THEIR income to OU, Texas and A&M. OSU and Tech completely left out of the mix. Don't have to give up any of their revenue, but don't get any subsidized revenue, either.

If I was Tech's President / Board of Regents I would be MAJOR pissed at this new conference scheme and would be looking for every opportunity to ditch it. How on earth ANYBODY not named Texas, OU, or A&M will ever be able to compete in this conference is beyond me. Hell the very nature of the conference setup now is that at least five schools are de facto inferior/underlings to the 3 major players. Meanwhile Tech and OSU are just out swinging in the breeze.

Yeah, I didn't catch that. You're right. This conference is a disaster.

I am surprised Tech and OSU haven't come to the table and said, "How can five of our conference partners make a unilateral decision to defer $x to OU, UT, and A&M?" This revenue sharing arrangement sounds like something out of the mafia.
