How will the officials handle CU this season?

How about a little football version of "Conspiracy Theory?" This just popped into my mind reading some of the Pac 10 stuff. Those we are leaving behind will want their pound of flesh, for sure. But we are also leaving the Big XII officials behind. Some of them may even view us as jeaprodizing their officiating gigs. Now, I'd hope that they have enough integrity to remain impartial. But since my opinion is that officials have had it out for CU since the Fifth Down, they may be even more harsh this year. We shall see.

Having worked with a lot of officiating crews, I can pretty much assure you that they rarely have it in for a particular team. They do get hard-ons for particular players, though. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm with you, DBT. If CU loses any Big 12 games this year, it will be because conference officials screwed us. (Even more so than usual.)

I don't think it will be that much of an issue for us, mainly because at one point half the conference was going to the Pac 10 with us. Our situation is different in that our folks haven't been on the Texas whinathon like the Nubskers have been. We are leaving the Big 12 because the Pac 10 is probably a better fit for the school, not because we can't beat Texas. So I think the pound of flesh will be more or less directed at the Fuskers.

If anything, they'll all know that they'll be looking for jobs soon, and will want to make some brownie points with a team that will be in a real conference.

Football games are generally better officiated than other sports (basketball, apparently soccer and now even baseball...); I don't think it will be too much of an issue to be honest.

With as ****ty a team as we have, officiating should be the least of our concerns.

Big XII officials actually out to screw the fuskers instead of kissing their asses??? This season might be worth watching after all!

Hey, we might as well be proactive and get our "the officials screwed us" excuse out on the table as early as possible. Now, when it happens, we can say "I TOLD YOU SO!!" I need to bookmark this thread.

I'm just trying to post something other than another "Bash Hawkins" thread. I'm getting tired of those.

I think of CU getting screwed by officials, former Nebraska QB Clete Blakeman comes to mind.

I'm not saying there is a conspiracy or anything. I think its subliminal. I think it goes back to the fifth down when one of their own got raked over the coals "because of those CU cheaters." Maybe its because CU has gained some sort of rep as consistently false starting. I remember a game last year where we kept getting called for it. But I watched the replay in super slow motion and could NEVER spot it.

did anybody ever see the offensive facemask call from the miami game in '93? that one still burns me up. i believe that was on a TD pass too.

There was no face mask. SEC crew, wasn't it?. ****ers.

Big East Crew. And it remains the worst call in the history of CU football. Absolutely changed the outcome of the game. It's not often that happens in football, and when it does, it's blatantly obvious.

The ones that have always pissed me off the most were the defensive holding penalties that CU seems to get called for so often (relative to other teams) in recent years. Also recently, last season or perhaps the year before, we were whistled for consecutive roughing-the-punter penalties, at least one of which was rather dubious.

The most significant call against Nebraska recently, however, that stood out as pretty bad was actually in our favor... Mahnke lighting up a Nebraska player on a kickoff or something like that before he touched the ball and not getting whistled. Was quite a hit, IIRC.

i believe that was on a long pass just before half. the knu player had no hope of catching the ball and was completely lit up with no need other than being a fusker. absolutly should have been called and would have put knu in FG position right before half.

seems like Bobby Purify was down at ATM the year Lee Foliaki (of all people) strips the ball....in OT, maybe? that one sticks out as a close call, can't speak to it being a bad call for sure outside being a bit homerish about it...but definitely decided the game.
