i tried...

i did.

i tried to let the brain win. i know the staff has appeared to be totally effing incompetent. but, apparently, i can't help myself. fanhood wins out, again. i so want to believe and so i now see all these reasons for hope... of course, none are driven by my confidence in the staff. ah, well. let's roll.

GO BUFFS!!!!

10-2 season and a bowl win over ohio state!!!! whoot woooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing for is certain. This board was pumped for the Buffs to deliver a beat down to CSU last year at this time.

Expectations are rightfully tempered this year. It's natural to lower expectations in hopes that the Buffs over-deliver. That strategy saves the heartache of a fifth consecutive losing season.

It might get "moving van" ugly for Dan Hawkins if CU comes out flat against the Rams. The tone of the season will be set based on the outcome of the Cinch RMS at invesco. The pent up frustration amongst fans caused by the decission to retain Dan Hawkins this season has the potential to explode.

I suppose 8-4 is possible, but given the last four years, such an outcome is a serious pipe dream that is best dreamt in these early days of fall camp.

10-2? That ain't kool aid! 12-0 BABY!!!!

I avoid "must win" games like the plague (especially if they are the 1st game of the season), but the CSU game is a biggie. To be honest, I'd take a W, any way we get it, but most of all, I just want to see the offense show some explosiveness and some productivity. Watching the O-Line (and D-Line for that matter) get absolutely OWNED by CSU last year was disappointing to say the least. Ryan Miller is right. The O-Line is going to carry this team as far as they are going to go. And I feel VERY excited about the O-Lline this year.

Guys...I bleed black and gold. I have CU stickers and emblems on my car, I wear CU stuff all weekend as I meander around the metroplex (aka, Longhorn, Aggie, Sooner, OSU, Tech, and Baylor HELLLLLLLL) to my kids sport activities. I want nothing more than for the Buffs to turn it around this season....and I sure as hell will be primed to scream at the TV from the opening kickoff.

But, I remain very skeptical of this staff. If I had to bet my money on our record for this year, I would say the chances of us having a winning record is less than 50%. Sorry to take a dump in your cream of wheat....

as far as i can see, here is what RM is talking about with the OL. limiting the 3 and outs. the stalled drives. the turnovers. the things that put the D in a deep hole. shoot. look back to hawks 1st year. if CU's O were able to average 21 points, they would have been a winning team that year. a bowl team. instead, they... well, we know.

lets be honest here. other than toledo and a handful of other exceptions, IMO, this team has died because of the O. the D generally playes a solid to good game and sometimes a great game. (other than toledo and generally. please read that i said generally) (please). they just get no help from the O.

i never have the same feeling of defeat when the D takes the field as i do when the O does. when the O takes the field, i just have a feeling of....dont turn it over and get about 20 yards and punt. let the D take care of things.

when the D takes the field, its....'lets get it on boys!!!! let'em have it!!!! get a pick 6!!!"

bottom line. over the last few year, i just expect the O to fail. i think the D has, for the most part, kept us in games more than the O has deserved. mizzou games excluded. and toledo if you didnt get it the first time.

I agree with everything you said. And for whatever reason, I think the O is going to come back to life this year. Better O-Lline. Weapons at WR. Dual threat QB. Solid RBs (actually, I think Stewart can be special, but after that, I haven't seen enough to be too excited about the RBs, but I hope an improved O-Line will make them all look good).

We've all got good reason to be skeptical of this staff, based on their track record. But this time of year, for me, heart wins over head. I'm all in! LET'S GO BUFFS!

OK, you have convinced me...I am in. I will instruct my sphincter to suck the dump out of the cream of wheat. I will get my hopes up, just like last year. Hopefully, I can get over the heartbreak a little bit faster this year if CSU and Hawaii (equivalent of last year's Toledo) kick our butts....

They won't be flat vs. CSU. I'm a bit in the show-me camp but there are some leaders out there.

Miller friggin ROARED today after the first offensive series was dominated by the offense. He yelled something about the OLINE right in front of us fans, and I had to go change my underwear. Solder also seems to have stepped up, as has Stevens. The two QBs, Scotty, Clemons... The list goes on and on. This is the player's team. I'm telling you guys, it infectious. The OLINE especially seems to have a chip on their shoulder and are a unit out to prove themselves. Good frame of mind.

I think Solder and Miller being singled out for individual awards have put them in a place of "this is our team". Get out of the F'ing way.

If it weren't for the nightmare of '09, I'd be predicting a beat down on 9/4. I mean a complete and total beat down. Instead, I'm cautious.

Something has definitely changed in the outlook/demeanor/commitment/confidence -- something -- of the team. They are not the same guys we've seen before.
It's scary and thrilling and definitely makes you want to gulp koolaid.

this is gonna hurt if this goes bad isnt it...**** it

Okay. Solder...Check. Miller...Check. Who else is going to step up?

Man. I'm confident that we're going to kick ass one day, the next I'm worried that Hawkins is going embarrass us again. Ugh.

I want it so bad this year. I've been pretty confident in our talent all along. I like the changes to the coaching staff this offseason. I believe we'll be a very good team in 2010. But I still believe we've got the type of road schedule that most top 10 teams couldn't survive without at least a couple losses. Roadies to Cal, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. Are you ****ing kidding me? Every one of those teams was ranked during 2009 and two are 2010 preseason top 10 teams. Plus we've got a ranked Georgia team at home along with 2 home games and 1 neutral against teams that beat us last year. Honestly, we could play well this year and still finish 7-5.

But... I just took a man-sized gulp of Kool-Aid and I'm thinking 9 wins heading into the Nebraska game with the North title on the line that week. Winner will take the Big 12 Championship game. Mark it.

What exactly are you liking there?

I think everyone on this board would rather have Greg Brown here rather than Collins. But, that shouldn't take anything away from Ambrose as an excellent young coach.

Buffnik, he of 9 wins, is drinking more potent Kool Aid than mine. Why do I always get the watered down ****?

Im only sipping the koolaid at this point. I couldnt be much more excited though, I was ready for the season right after the Pac 12 announcement.

I'm not trying to bash Ambrose in any way. Same thing with Coach Prince. I just disagree with BuffNik. I guess I'm trying to see his train of thought on the coaching changes.

I believe that Hawkins coaching WRs last season was bad for both our WR and Head coaching. He couldn't devote fully to either job. Hiring Prince vastly improved the WR Coach position (Prince is vastly more qualified than Hawk for that job even if Hawk didn't have the other responsibilities). Also, I believe that not having position responsibilities makes Hawk a better Head Coach.

I believe that Ambrose is a wash when compared with Brown as a DB position coach. Ash doesn't have the coaching experience, but he brings other strengths to the table while having the same philosophies.

I believe that our defensive schemes suffered from having too many cooks in the kitchen last season. Foster and Brown were strong, experienced coaches that caused coordination by committee. There's no doubt that Collins is in charge this year. While I believe that Collins was the weakest of the 3 (I'd prefer Brown or Foster as our DC), having a single voice and vision in control is a major improvement. Having everyone on the same page and a clear chain of command is a very big deal.

I believe that continuity with Kiesau and Johnson was very important. Our OL has had too many coaches during the time Hawk has been here. I look back at last spring and due to the timing of Helfrich leaving, Kiesau was running another guy's offense and Johnson (who was hired late) was running the Grimes-Helfrich schemes. This year, they'll have their schemes and protection packages in place. Those will be strengthened by what Prince brings to the mix.

Finally, although it won't matter on the field in 2010, I have no doubt that having Ash and Prince for recruiting is a huge upgrade over Brown and Foster.

If you keep bringing up the fact that we have the same crappy coaching staff, the Kool Aid's never gonna work on you. Our coaching staff is better this year, damn you! :smile2:
