This guy's name keeps coming up in practice reports and has even been mentioned by Hawkins in an interview. Never thought I would see it, but he may just be the heir apparent at LT. Guy sounds impressive thus far and I hope he gets some playing time this season in mop-up duty. Anyone that has been to practices have any insight?

Funny if I remember right he was a 2* kid too...

He was. He did not start until his senior year and entered his senior year weighing 240-250. He had some really good games his senior year and got offers from U-Dub and Utah. Never thought he would mature so early, but the guy is getting some hype.

Yeah I'd also like to know more about this guy. It seems like the coaches always mention his name and he seems to find his way onto the practice field a decent amount. Maybe we're in store for a pleasant surprise of the good kind on the OL this year?

These are his two older brothers, one in college, one in the NFL:
Andrew Bakhtiari plays for University of San Diego. (Will be a junior, hasn't played a lot yet.)

After stints with the 49s and Chargers, Eric Bakhtiari was signed to the Tennessee Titans' practice squad on November 11, 2009.
He was signed off the practice squad to active roster on December 12

I've been to parts of 3 practices and here's sort of my thoughts:

He's working first team RT right now with Givens behind him. He was working at LT (I believe) in the spring. Jack Harris is 2nd team LT. I'm guessing Harris may be the LT heir apparent, but who knows. Sometimes guys can only play one side or the other, some can do both. Givens is in the mix obviously.

I'd be surprised if the coaches believe he's ahead of Bryce in general, but there's got to be points awarded for being there. Bryce missed several games in the fall - for undisclosed personal reasons, and then was having academic issues in the spring - at least that's what we've been led to believe.

Either way, they need to have someone in there every day who can be counted on. Bahktiari is benefiting from a lot of reps. There's not a lot of difference between the 1's and 2's btw. When you have Iltis, Behrens, Givens, Harris and Dannewitz on the 2's, you got some guys who've started some games or been around a few years.

As for the eyeball test, he's bigger and in the range as Givens, etc. He's tiny when standing next Ryan Miller who is a giant.

Hard to say how he's doing as they aren't really in full pads yet and much of the scrimmages are blocked out by the extra guys standing between the fans and the plays. Must be doing pretty good as the offense is looking pretty crisp.

This staff has had a knack for getting those 2-stars that can flat out play. Orms, Thornton, Bahktiari, West, Olatoye - isn't that the bottom of the barrel from the '08 class? They are all in the 1-2 deep. Early reports show the same this year... Canty, Terrell Smith, and several other good looking athletes who weren't exactly highly recruited. It's the one area that sort of has held out hope I guess for me. The pipeline of talent has been much better in real life than on paper.

Easy there pal. They haven't even went full pads yet. Let's wait until the first scrimmage before any talk of the Bahk man taking Given's job.

And we still can't judge the 2* you're bringing up. Orms, Deji, Thornton have barely seen any PT. A little early to be saying they're superstars.

I do enjoy the enthusiasm though. Keep up the good stuff.

I'll retract my earlier statement. Let's see these kids play before we say "those 2-stars that can flat out play" Good?

I love Holic's posts. He's a die hard Buff who always speaks his mind. He knows I respect that. I'm just trying to stir the pot up a little and get a decent argument going on. That's about it.

Really sounds like Bakhtiari is going to be a player.

I'm loving the depth and competition on the OL.

To be clear, I didn't mean to imply that Bahktiari is going to beat out Givens. I think Givens is more physically mature looking and probably starts if he's got the other stuff all figured out. Good to have a little competition here. The other point I was trying to make was that I don't even know if Bahktiari is ahead of Harris. Harris is Solder's understudy right now which I think says a lot.

The Oline looks like a determined unit from Denver on down. They've got an attitude I've never seen.

Lastly, once you see Orms and Thornton making plays you are going to concur. Orms is going to be a 4-year starter. That's huge.

I hope you're right. Orms has been creating some buzz.

Love the comp and the attitude from oline, you gotta be a little nasty up front, all the good units are. Orms is just one of those guys that can play the game, just a football player. He will make mistakes because he is young. However, he is gonna make things happen with how he flys around.

I've got a lot of respect for BGW1964's analysis of OL play. He posts on Rivals and know his stuff with OL and Strength/Conditioning.

He said that Bakhtiari's technique is perfect in pass protection.

It sounds like Givens wins his RT job back, but that we'll have a great battle in 2010 between Harris and Bakhtiari for the LT spot Solder is vacating.

From the same practice report, it sounds like Behrens is healthy and may be able to reclaim his starting LG spot.
