SIAP: Is Patrick Ridgell no longer with the Times-Call?

He was my favorite reporter covering the Buffs for the last couple of years. I see most of the new articles are coming from Brian Howell now. Just curious if anyone knows what the skinny is?

He left the Times Call about a month ago. I called the newspaper to find out where he went, and nobody could tell me. I got the impression that he left the industry completely, but I can't tell you that for sure.

Thanks. That is too bad that he is no longer covering CU sports. He was pretty consistent with his reporting. AB Karma his way.

Ridgell was a pretty big loss. He did a nice job covering for Adam on Rivals every now and then, too. He left journalism.

Howell seems pretty good so far, though.

Howell is the sports editor. They won't be using him for their CU coverage on an on-going basis. The editor of the T-C did tell me that they're looking to replace Ridgell, but didn't tell me what kind of timeline they had in mind. The newspaper business, like just about everywhere, is hurting right now. They're probably not in too big of a hurry to add to their payroll.

I think Ridgell could have made a name for himself in this business. He was far and away better than anything at the Denver Post. I can't believe there isn't a major newspaper out there someplace that couldn't use a guy with his talents. I'm sure he felt he could make more money in another line of work, but maybe he just didn't give it enough time.

anything is better than the crap that comes in the post.

I was thinking about this the other day. Ridgell was far and away the best CU beat reporter over the past couple of years and will be missed.

Agreed...compared to our buddy Ringo, Ridgell is like Ernest Hemingway....
