:wtf: Surprisingly, the MTN is not a cable channel in the media capital of the world. Looks like it will be me, Zimmer, Johnson, and Guiness on Sept. 4. I may have to trade Mr. Guiness for Johnnie Walker depending on how it goes.

It is a complete joke, but that is the Mtn. Weenie for you. It just emphasizes another reason why this game gets very little for CU. I'm already planning my trip to the sports bar as I don't get the Mutton on Dish....

I'm pretty sure this translates to a TV payout of $8.59 per school. Bohn can hit the drive through on his way back to Boulder and have enough money to super size.

You can come over to my house. I've got it.

You really want to see us lose to CSU again? You'll be better off listening only.

If I was gonna travel to Arvada, I would probably make it all the way to Denver to watch the game in person. Thanks for the offer, tho'.

From looking at their website it appears that it's only available on cable networks in the western part of the country, and on DTV.

What channel on DTV? I am looking at the list and don't see it. I buy the sports tier and can't find it.

Accept your fate and just listen to the streamed audio. I mean, why would anyone want to make this game available to places like Philly and NY? How many televisions are there in those towns anyway?

It's likely that by the 2nd half I'll be hallucinating anyway.
:drink:

Clever marketing-the MTN is indeed available countrywide as shown in this graphic:

Now I just have to get my apartment building to let me tack a DTV satellite dish outside my window. So much easier than having a cable channel or streaming the game online. :thumbsup:

And I also like how they say "Cable & Satellite", as if to imply that it's available on both across the whole country. :lol:

The game will be broadcast in HD as will all games on the Mountain in 2010.

Thanks. That's good to know. I'll definitely DVR the game so I can watch it again after coming home from it. I get the Mountain, but I'm not sure I've ever watched a game on it. How homerish are the announcers for non-conference games?

The announcers are biased, but not over the top. Not sure who will be doing the game this season. I think the MTN brought in a couple new broadcasters this year.

Say what you will, but considering the MWC does not get an infusion of millions of annual BCS dollars every season, the fact the conference is able to broadcast nearly every conference game is actually fairly impressive.

I don't have a problem with the mtn, but I don't want CU games to be on there. If this game is so valuable to the state of Colorado, like we are told every time CU thinks about bailing on this ****ty series, then this game should be simulcast on channel 4 or some ****. There are about 12 people in Colorado who are going to know what channel the mtn is.

Yeah I don't disagree. This game should be simulcast locally. Anyway to petition the local outlets to make that happen? The problem is both CU and CSU have been terrible on the field in recent years. When one or the other is decent, the game is almost always a national broadcast - they should have moved the game to Sunday again to ensure that.

I don't believe that local outlets can pick up CU games due to the Big 12 contracts. A CU game is either picked up by ABC, ESPN, FSN, etc., or it's not on the tube at all.

The funny thing is the Mtn. is owned by Comcast and yet they still don't bother showing it in 90% of the country. This time last year I was working for the Mtn., and the worst part was I was in charge of ALL things csewe. I died a little inside each day and often contemplated bludgeoning myself with a crowbar just to end my misery! At any chance I got I would edit in pro CU/anti-csu plays into highlight packages, put a few negative comments about the lambies into the anchors scripts, and ALWAYS wear a CU shirt when interviewing a csu coach or athlete. With football season looming last year I was faced with the unfortunate reality of having to work on Saturdays to produce lambie games (as well as the rest of their god-awful conference) and miss my first Buffs game in over 10 years! Luckily the Football Gods intervened and I was in a horrendous car accident and was unable to work due to my injuries and I was replaced. But thanks to the dirty hippy that t-boned me on her way to a Phish show at Red Rocks, my CU Football attendance streak is alive and well because a few weeks later my crippled ass was hobbling into Folsom Field for the home opener! All the Percocet in the world couldn't kill the pain I felt after watching that ****-show transpire on our home field. I learned something though, bad Buff football is a 100 times better than no Buff football and I would gladly let another dirty hippy crash dirty hippy car into me again and again if it means I can spend ever home game at Folsom with the rest of Buff Nation! It's a new season, new team, and hopefully a new philosophy from our coaching staff! I'm feeling really good about the Buffs this year and expect big things from the Black & Gold! As always... GO BUFFS!!!

Carolina,

My understanding is that it goes like this:

National = 1st Tier rights
Regional = 2nd Tier rights
Local = 3rd Tier rights

Within that, there's some priority given based on the media contract (like ABC gets first pick and no one can pick up a competing Big 12 game in the ABC time slot).

1st and 2nd Tiers are contracted with the conference. But if all the networks that have Big 12 contracts pass on a game that CU has broadcast rights for, then CU can sell the game to a 3rd Tier outltet. 3rd Tier would also include pay per view through cable or internet (BuffsTV).

There is also the issue of the RMS being a CSU home game for broadcast purposes. So I'm not sure that CU has any rights to sell the game to a local network. CSU is probably blocked by its contract with the MTN.

Also, I'm not sure how radio plays in all that.

Hopefully someone knows for sure and can educate us.

But when you say 3rd tier can be local, are you referring to one of the Denver stations? Because we've talked about this very thing in recent years on here and I'm almost positive that the Denver stations can't pick up CU games even if no other national or regional network picks it up. Now in the pre-Big 12 days, CU games that weren't on ABC or ESPN got picked up by channel 4 all the time.
