Every Summer, we get GLOWING reports out of Boulder

And every year, I buy into it. Fool me once..... Anyway, I was thinking about it while reading the glowing reports in the paper: Why is this year any different than the past? I mean, am I about to be played the fool yet again? :smile2:

(I shouldn't have put "Every fall" in the title. Should have been "every summer." Oh well.)

Well, that is why there are so many skeptics (you might call them "negative") around here. For four years we've listened to DH spew his positive nonsense and fall flat on his face. I remember Aug. 30, 2006, DH saying "I'm not a guy who wants to rebuild, I want to win now, just go..." Then I watched Montana freaking State roll into Folsom and beat the Buffs. You could go on about "Either you are trying to win a NC or you are not" "It's the Big 12" or "Ten wins, no excuses" but you get the point. DH is just a blow hard who can't win more than one out of three games at this level.

There is one way to change that perception....shut up and win.

You gotta figure the reports will always be glowing. I am just willing to believe this year is different. We know there is talent, we know there is experience and it seems there is a drive to win (from the players at least). I'm hopeful that the players are good enough and experienced enough now to just play. That way it will be more difficult for the coaches to screw it up.

i just dont read them. i will see what i see once the games start. that will tell me all i need to know.

I think the big difference this year is the reports coming from fans who have attended the scrimmages. In the past years there always seemed to be concerns which ended up coming true. This year almost every report I've seen is positive. Things like this years practices are not anything like years past. There seems to be much more intensity and energy. The practices are much better organized. No one is standing around. Etc.

I guess, if I have one concern, it is our lack of size on the D Line. That scares me a bit. To hear Speedy talk about the huge holes the OLine was creating against the No. 1 D is kind of scary.

I truly hope the Buffs rock this year. But you are going to have to show me. As far as this year being different, I went back and bumped the scrimmage report from 8/13/09 about a week ago. It looked like the same glowing reports we got this year. So I guess we disagree there, but either way, I hope the Buffs come out with their hair on fire and lay the wood to the Rammies.

They look better than last year. TH looks wayyyy better than last year. The D can't be worse early on than it was last year. There is depth in some places. However, Until hawk proves he can outcoach his brethren, I'm going to be skeptical. Fairchild OWNED hawk last year. OWNED. Unacceptable.

My bullsh*t meter has been running on overdrive lately. The newest BG Brooks propaganda about needing "just a little more time" to put things together just about made my head explode. Here we are, in year five, and we need "a little more time"? Well guess what? You have a little more time. You have two weeks. That's a little more time.

I'll admit that I started to get a little twinge of optimism, but that quickly faded when Hawk started talking about razor hairs and little things.

Yes. That was very embarrassing but not as embarrassing as how badly we were out coached the next game. :sad1:

Well, to be fair Sacky, I think most coaches say **** like that this time of year. They only have 4 weeks to get everything in place for Game 1. One nice thing this year is we have a lot more experience than in the past and aren't relying almost solely on freshmen and sophomores.

BTW, where did you buy your bull**** meter? I've been looking all over. McGuckins doesn't even have them.

We'll see on 9/4, my concern is on the strength and conditioning side, I've heard from an inside source that our program resembles a high school team's. Until the Buffs come our and manhandle an opponent they are supposed to beat, I'm not convinced.

This I have a hard time believing. Based solely on what they've managed to do with guys like Will Pericak and Bryce Givens.

@ DBT - I had my bullsh*t meter surgically implanted in Mexico a few years ago. Keep it to yourself, though. We can't have a big rush of people streaming across the border to get their bullsh*t meters implanted.

Tell me who they've pushed around lately? With last year's disaster and the past 4 years, I believe it all day long.

Each other?

I suppose you could be right, but I never got the impression that our problems were related to strength & conditioning. Preparation, execution, gameplanning - sure. Not strength & conditioning.

As a not-so-wise idot is fond of saying: We'll see.

Well, according to those that have been to practices, the guys, at least, pass the eyeball test.

Jesus H. DBT, are you ****ing kidding me? Just noticing this trend?

Will your next thread be titled, "Is it just me, or is Cody not very tall"?

Post Psuedo scandal, the Mike Bohn era has been noteworthy for providing more sizzle than steak.

2009 was completely oversold. My ears and eyes read this same-ole pre-season hype and my stomach remembers 3-9.

Absent are stories about how Dan Hawkins and Mike Bohn worked out a 12-step program that ensures last year's mistakes are not repeated. I'd be much more excited by a different script. This pre-season media blitz is the same ol' same ol'. QB controversy. Team sick of losing. Best practice ever. Blah, blah, blah.

These are some make-believe headlines I'd have rather seen.

Coach Hawk befriended Nick Sabin over the summer.
The two coaches discussed coming back from scandal.
Buffs to minimize penalties.

Hawkins admits that players lack emotional energy that is necessary to win on road. Team no longer encouraged to avoid peaks and valleys. Anger at losing and pride in the program define the locker room.

"I just want punch some people in the mouth." - Dan Hawkins.

Hawkins hires media consultant. Hawkins grows leaps and bounds.

Just heard Hawk on with CJ and Klatt. I was expecting FIREWORKS! considering how Joel has been RIPPING HAWKINS A NEW ASSHOLE!! every day on the show. All I can say is, what a dud. Joel did not rip into Hawkins once. And, really, he had to keep it professional. What I got out of the interview is that Hawk is keeping his mouth shut and keeping everything close to the vest. He spoke, pretty much, in generalities. So, run along kids. There is nothing to see here.

I can't believe Hawk did that show? I hate to give him some credit, but that took some guts. Or maybe not since you said Joel didn't say what he really thinks.

so the hawk is going to wear a vest this year?

Meh, don't worry. This kind of stuff happens at every school. Optimism reigns supreme in August, since everyone is still undefeated.
