Depth Chart

Knowing in the past, or at least last year, a depth chart was released after the second scrimmage, I called the sports info office last night and was told it would be out today sometime, potentially this morning. Should be interesting.

good to know...

I bet there will be some "ties" at certain positions, but perhaps some other issues will become clear...

Not a surprise but good to see it finally happen, now I hope that Hawkins can stand by this quote:

As for game-day mistakes, both Dan Hawkins and Kiesau said Hansen need not fear operating on a "short leash."
"I don't think you want anybody playing with a noose hanging over their necks, you don't want anybody playing that way," Dan Hawkins said.

This will only help Hansen's confidence and for the whole team to know who the man is and get behind him. I expect Hansen to be on such a high for the start of the RMS that he marches right down the field first time with the ball.

Good. Needed to happen sooner or later.

As far as other things that stand out on the depth chart:

1. Looks like we are going to be rotating several WRs.
2. Givens/Bahktiari are still battling at RT.
3. We are small on the DL. Starting to get a little concerned about this group and the front seven as a whole.
4. Ahles has overtaken Beatty.
5. I really hope Jimmy and Jalil stay healthy at CB. Otherwise... yikes.

Very interesting stuff, Hartigan (sp) over West, Beatty to second string? or will he just be that 4th d-lineman standing up most of the time? Richardson already jumped ahead of a lot of people. The Secondary depth isn't scary as originally thought, not pretty but not as bad. No kicker decided yet...

What about Bahr not even on the depth chart at OL, but at utility back? Patterson and Clemons atop the WR . Interesting.

Nice to see some potential threats returning punts...would be nice to get some production from that part of our special teams for once

Would be nice for sure. We need to start winning the field position battle every once in a while. Patterson may well be the X Factor for the team this season.

Merged all the threads together.

Thanks dude. Responding from my phone, I had just typed one of the most well-thought out and brilliant responses ever written with thumbs, when the topic I was responding to suddenly disappeared and my post was lost. I get back to you later.

Some interesting stuff:

WR's Clemon's and WillJeff listed at co-starters, Simmons clearly #3, is Simmons this far behind because of dealing with his academic issues or is he just not playing to his physical talent. Even though they are listed as co-'s from all reports I expect Clemon's to get the key time on the field. At the Z Patterson and Richardson as co-s, lot of talent here, interesting that Celestine who has been in the system before is behind someone two guys new to the system. These guys should all take a lot of pressure off of Scotty but he needs to stay healthy, not much exciting behind him at the slot. Scotty and Patterson the only senior's looking to get significant time so we should be solid here for coming years.

O-line - lot of young guys here as well, interesting to see who prevails between Bakhtiari and Givens,

D-line - not as worried about theme being a little smallish since we have some depth and they are all solid guys, I would rather have an athletic 280lb guy than a 305lb tub of goo who should be 240. I think we see a lot of West in passing situations. Herrod the only Sr.

LBs - Young as well, good athletes need to step up and play to ability, surprised to see Manke ahead of Harrington and Ahles ahead of Beatty.

DBs - Pleaaaase stay healthy. Big dropoff from starters to back-ups. We need to develop some depth at CB right now. Can Bell and Moten step up and be our future starters?

STs - We are way more talented at PR than last year, hope to get a significant lift from that part of our game this year. I wonder if the PK will be conditional with different guys getting kicks based on situation and who is kicking well.

At quick glance, we have 4 seniors starting on D and 4 seniors staring on O. It also looks like we have some pretty good talent taking over next year. So, whether it is Hawkins or someone else, next year's team should be pretty solid.

Yes, lots of players return next season, GET 8 WINS THIS YEAR and get some momentum for 2011.

Not going to flip out over the depth chart but find it very "interesting" that beatty is behind ahles and west behind hartigan. I think Kasa and West will see plenty of action as well as beatty so...

This year's recruiting class is a must that it be solid. CU needs to get off to a fast start and have a good year in order to elevate this class. If Hawkins cannot turn the team and recruiting around, both of those things, then, if I were Bohn, I'd really consider a change. The more I think about it, if we even win 8 but have a #60 recruiting class, I don't think any kind of success we have this year on the field will be sustainable.

Sorry to get off topic there.

Back to the depth chart.............

Back to the depth chart.............

I love you like my long-lost crazy Grandpa, DBT, but that has got to be the most poorly written post I've ever seen. Just sayin' is all...

Hmmm. Thoughts:

Travon has rocketed up the Depth chart at WR, supplanting WillJeff and moving him over behind Clemons. But Willjeff must be having a fantastic camp if hes pushing Clemons!!!

Looks like Givens has got his starting spot back. Let's hope he plays gangbusters to keep it.

Injuries on the Defensive side of the ball seem to have determined a few spots. I fully expect Forrest and Beatty to get their starting spots back before CSU, barring more injury.

NO Frosh TBs in the tailback grouping atm. Weird. You know some of them are gonna play.

Interesting True Frosh on the depth chart: Moten, Torres, Jered Bell, Chidero, Paul Richardson...

I'm shocked that bonsu is now THIRD on the DT rotation. Should he be red shirted? Good for the older guys on stepping up tho.

Should be interesting to see the battles. I hope these true frosh don't play just to get 5 snaps or less a game. For gods sakes, Terrel is 4th string!!

Givens is listed as even, not the clear starter, this is the same as we have heard all spring.

I think we are going to see a lot of rotation on the D so West and Beatty are going to see the field a lot even if they are not officially "starters."

Makes you wonder if Bonsu isn't coming back as quickly as was hoped from the injury, with Obi stepping up I wouldn't oppose your RS idea if we can make it work.

If Speedy and Lock stay healthy and are reasonably effective I could see them getting the big majority of the time allowing the Fr TBs to RS, with Hildreth providing depth. They may be forced to play Allen or Torres though since everyone else is small and not well suited for short yardage.
