The Loveland paper covers CSU a good amount. Steve Fairchild has been using the term "Rebuilding year" often. Isn't that Coach speak for "We will probably suck this year"? They have a true Freshman starting at QB. It's a sad state of affairs with all this news I have been hearing out of Ft. Collins and I still think this is going to be a hard game that CU could lose..... If CSU beats us I think we will win a total of zero games this year. Also I was told we made Maxim Magazine top 10 worst (worse?) college teams for this year. I think we came in #8.

I am starting think it's good we are scared of this game. Back us into a corner and watch us fight out. When we had the swagger and confidence last year we got our collective asses kicked. Less than 2 weeks away! I can't wait!

Fairchild sandbagged last year too, and is doing it again. Don't be fooled. CSU players, staff and fans expect to roll over the buffs. They believe they have a better QB in Pete Thomas, fast WRs, and a stout D led by much better LBs.

I am terrified of this game. The one consolation I have this year is if Hawk somehow manages to lose a game when we have a clear advantage of experience, not even including the normal talent gap, he is 100% done at Colorado, there is absolutely no chance he is retained. If he wins then he still has a chance to salvage his career here.

Fairchild is sandbagging.

For sure. CSU has much more talent than anyone here is giving them credit for. Their receivers are big causing tough matchups for even our very good corners. They have a good tight end and they have at least one good running back. Plus their O-line is mostly juniors and seniors. This all adds up to a freshman QB getting all the time in the world to hit tall targets. CU is going to need to play very well (just like every year since the Rams could care less if they win another game all year) to win this game.

Hopefully our kids aren't reading the Fairchild headlines...

The contrast between Fairchild and Hawkins is amazing. After the recent CSU scrimmage, Fairchild was quoted as saying "We were awful". He's obviously trying to light a fire under his team and get them in the right frame of mind.

Contrast to Hawk "We're working on a few things, here and there, just tweaking some stuff". Sorry coach, but a team coming off a 3-9 year has a lot of work to do. It's much more than tweaking a few things and bringing your lunchpail.

It's all the same stuff we heard last year. Almost verbatim. And what happened last year?

The more fluff I hear, the closer I come to sackys viewpoint. Unless the seniors motivate the team and get them ready, hawk sure won't. As a wise man said to me once, "This year will be different. The players won't let the coaches ruin the season" or some facsimile thereof.

However, I think Hawk will win over the players and lose a bunch of games.

The CSU fans I know are positive they will roll the Buffs. The "oh yeah, your stadium sucks" defense is getting a little old.

They probably don't realize that they only won 3 games last year since they only care about the one.

I'm so sick of CSU. There is not one thing to gain from that game. We win, we were supposed to win cause we are a bigger program that has more money. We lose then we have to hear trash talk from a team that sucks for a year.

I was wondering when that would be brought up. CSU is, in fact, "rebuilding" - nine straight losses, a true freshman quarterback, four new offensive linemen ...

If any other name was on the jersey other than "Colorado State", it would be as close to a sure win as the Buffs have on the 2010 schedule. But, since the uniforms say "Colorado State", you know it will be a tough game.

"One win ... no excuses!!" :gobuffs:

We didn't lose last year becaue of Cody. We lost because we couldn't run the ball, and couldn't stop CSU from running the ball. It was all up front last year.

i'm sorry, but does anything think we lose last year's game with hansen?

Yes. You must have watched a different game then I did because I remember our lines getting pushed around and our dbs getting burned.

There is a Hawkins to blame for that but it wasn't the one wearing #7.

last year's game also featured 300 or so CSU kickoff return yards.

Are you including punts? The Buffs had 17 points, meaning only 4 kick-off's. There was 1 that was a touch back, and 1 that was an onside kick. The other two returns totaled 42 return yards. Their big return of 23 yards was reduced by a penalty back to the 12.

I am sure they had great field position due to turnovers and poor puns/punt coverage, but not from kick off returns.

i guess i misread this box score a few weeks ago....and confused it with beer and angst ridden memories of short fields.

Our defense was absolutely terrible in this game last season

I was still getting to my seat when the stuffed them for the first two plays and gave up, like, 65 yards on the third and long. It. was. painful.

But despite terrible, terrible play, our relatively inexperienced team still managed to battle back. It makes you wonder what would have happened if they just demonstrated decent execution.

Third down defense this year has got to improve or we're going to be in the exact same spot we were in last year. You have to get off the field when you get the chance. We've been flat out awful in this ever since Hawk got here.

I believe one of the big differences between the CSU game of 2009 and 2010 will be that Cody was throwing to:

WIDE RECEIVER GROUPING (x, z)
21 Scotty McKnight, 5‐11, 185, Jr.**
15 Jason Espinoza, 5‐8, 175, Soph.*
12 Ryan Maxwell, 5‐8, 180, Soph.
1 Andre Simmons, 6‐3, 210, Jr.
80 Will Jefferson, 5‐11, 190, Fr.
16 Anthony Wright, 6‐0, 190, Soph.*
25 Kevin Moyd, 5‐7, 195, Sr.‐5*** (also TB)

Simmons saw limited action as he had practiced for a whole week with the team. Scotty has great hands but is not known for his speed. I don’t know of a D coordinator in college football who would have seen that list and been intimidated. This year Tyler will be throwing to:

WIDE RECEIVER GROUPING (X)
17 Toney Clemons, 6‐2, 210, Jr. AND
16 Will Jefferson, 5‐11, 190, Soph.*
1 Andre Simmons, 6‐2, 200, Sr.*

WIDE RECEIVER GROUPING (Z)
2 Travon Patterson, 5‐9, 175, Sr.‐5* AND
80 Paul Richardson, 6‐1, 175, Fr.
47 Kendrick Celestine, 5‐11, 180, Jr.*

WIDE RECEIVER GROUPING (H)
21 Scotty McKnight, 5‐11, 185, Sr.‐5***
35 Kyle Cefalo, 5‐10, 175, Jr.
15 Jason Espinoza, 5‐8, 175, Jr.**

I know as a Buff fan I tend to get overlly optimistic about our players, but there really is a big difference in the WR talent on the field.

Those long passes happend on 3rd and long fairly consistantly all year. I can remember specific instances in the CSU, Toledo, Kansas, Missouri, & aTm games where it looked like the D had them on the ropes, and then there was a huge momentum shift. That has been one glaring weakness in the D.
