The Game Plan

I remember the Okie St. game last year. I'm going strictly on my feeble memory, but I think Hansen threw it, like, eleven out of the first twelve plays. I remember thinking at the time that it looked like Kiesau and Hawkins, if they survived, were looking at chucking it all over the yard this year. So, I'm thinking, on offense, we are going to come out with guns blazing and wide receivers running wild.

I'm thinking a balanced offense based on ball possession, then over the top the receivers every once in a while to stretch it out. (at least that's what i want)

Well, it's year 5 and we still don't have a "system" in place. Whatever wins games is fine by me.

CSU has a small and inexperienced dl. We should be able to run the ball and give hansen time to check his reads and hit wr's. No excuses, we have solder and miller and a BIG experienced O-line.

CU needs to come out and stick it in the end zone within the first 2 drives. They need confidence and need to jump csu and put all the pressure on that freshman qb. They say jimmy and jalil can cover their guys one on one so, collins should be able to get to the qb right?

I think fairchild is going to try and run this ucla transfer rb on us and hit deep balls off play action a ton.

I keep thinking we're going to run run run.... so for this season, I am going to assume we will pass pass pass. Gotta mix it up a bit

Good point. Maybe against Okie St. it was, "Dammit, we are going to learn how to throw the ball!" I can't remember, Hawkins probably thought he was done at that point, didn't he?

Kieseau has even come out and said that we don't have a system. It's all about seeing what works. I freaking hate that. I personally think you need an identity out there. You need to know what you are and what you're trying to accomplish. I'd feel a lot better about trying to run the ball if D Scott were still here. Say what you will, we're very thin at that position. It would be a great help to have him as a viable option.

In my perfect world, we run the 2001 offense. Lots of running with big, nasty, mobile OL that open up giant holes. Suck the safeties and LB's up and then kill them over the top with some sick play action to the WRs and TEs. I love that kind of football. Love it. I love watching it. It's what offensive football should be, IMO. We haven't seen that here for a long, long time.

I agree with Sackman. I would love a dominant O-line and run game to set up everything else. Smashmouth football always succeeds. And we NEED an identity. Something to cling to. Something to strive for. What team can be good at anything when the game plan changes drastically every week?

However, I don't think we are ever going to run the ball that much under Hawk. If one thing is clear he likes to throw the ball. I'm just glad we seemingly have better receivers now. Maybe our passing game can set up the run.

I would think that what he was saying was that week in, week out, you prepare your team to take advantages of the weaknesses of the team you are playing. One week, you may emphasize throwing. Another, running. I highly doubt he meant he will go into a game with no clue and then just try to figure it out as the game goes on.

Pretty good memory, DBT.

Against OSU, Tyler Hansen attempted 13 straight passes - covering 3 separate possessions. In fact, in the 1st quarter of that game, 17 of our 20 plays were pass plays. (I am counting sacks - Hansen was sacked 3 times in the 1st quarter - as pass plays)

In watching the spring game and the fall scrimmage it is easy to say we are running a 3-WR, 1-TE, 1-RB, QB lines up mainly in shotgun offense. My interpretation of Kieseau’s answer is different than most people. Rather than say we are going to run or throw 50 times a game, I believe he is saying the offense will adjust to the defense. Last year we said we were going to have a power running game. On the first play from scrimmage CSU put 5 guys on the line and brought the safeties close to the line. My interpretation of what Kieseau is saying is that if CSU does that, and we have a running play called, we are switching to a pass. This is sort of the pick your poison style of offense. In theory this is a good idea if you are really good at the runs and passes you want to execute. This also only works if we can get to the line of scrimmage with more than 10 seconds on the play clock. It won’t work if we have to line up and run the play like last year because we won’t be able to make adjustments. This is also my biggest fear when it comes to the Buff’s being successful this year.

Hawkins is too stupid to take advantage of a small d-line. Last year the guy lining up across the guy from Toledo out-weighed him by a good 30 pounds. They could have called every single play "run behind Miller" ready break, but instead we want to sling it all over the field. arrghhh it makes my head hurt.

We couldn't run block for **** last year.
