Pleasant surprise,

I figured when he didn't get in last year we had seen the last of him. It will still be a struggle because we all know how difficult a time the Buffs have had getting guys in via the JC route and Shaun had developed some bad academic habits in HS. On the other hand he also had some personal challenges in HS that would have made being completely together academically difficult for just about anybody.

The plus side of all this is that those academic issues are the reason that he didn't have everybody going after him hard when he was in HS. The kid is physically a BigXII player, size, quickness, agility, mean streak on the field (in complete contrast to what he is reported to have off the field where reportedly he is very personable and popular.) Most importantly with all this the kid decided to be a Buff and is sticking with that decision.

I hope that everything works out for him for his sake and ours since I see him as an anchor in the middle of our O-line.

Glad to see he's getting the work in and Big 12 football is still in his plans. Best of luck Shaun! Can't wait til you get to Boulder!

Not to start something, but If I recall he didn't have nice things to say

No that was was Nuckols on his twitter page and there are rumors he (like Simon) is trying to get into CU. Checking the logs Shaun has been around recently.

Right. Nuckols enrolled at Seton Hill (PA) and was telling Buff fans to "get over it." Simon showed up here, owned up to his situation and said he was committed to showing up someday in BnG. Very cool.

I loved that kid from the word go. That buffalo hat must have been lucky. Welcome back to the Black and Gold!!!

Here's the Rivals article announcing the verbal from Simon:

http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1049557

Simon plans to start at center for Hutchinson C.C. next season as a redshirt freshman.

"I am trying to make that Junior College All-American team. My coaches here think I can do it; they think I have a great shot at it," he said. "I also want to win a national championship up here. They got real close last season but they had a couple tough losses."

Does Simon plan to go through the recruiting process again?

"No," he replied. "I am sticking with Colorado. I actually officially committed to them yesterday (Friday) on the phone. I have been through a lot with them. My GPA was real bad in high school when they started recruiting me. They tried; tried to help me get qualified. It just didn't happen."

Simon took 15 credit hours in the fall. He said his GPA was "real good last semester".

"I am taking 18 credits right now and I plan to take summer school," Simon added. "I am going to graduate and get out to Colorado in January. So I will be there next year for spring ball."

yeah this is a nice bright spot for us, pulling a potential Juco all American would be impressive all things considered.

Even better is that he took a redshirt year and will graduate early... so he'll come in as a sophomore early enrollee who will participate in winter conditioning and spring ball next year.

Awesome news. Sounds like he's working hard to get here. Good luck, Shaun! I'm looking forward to seeing you here.

Reports that Simon has torn up a knee and has had a successful surgery. Not sure what's going on here. I'm really feeling for this young guy.

Dang. If that's the case he will have plenty of time to recover. Too bad for him. You know what they say though. The harder things come against you and try to stop you or bring you down, the sweeter the outcome is going to be when you have overcome. Its obvious he's not quitting so I can't wait to see him on the field wearing black and gold repin the Buffalo.

So this saga gets weirder. According to the new article by Adam at rivals, Simon has not talked to our coaches since the beginning of July.

Didn't he still have a lot of classes for CC graduation? Is he still on track?

Yeah. He redshirted last year so he could focus on school. Now it looks like he'll graduate a semester early this December.
