Mike Bohn next KU AD?

Saw in the Greeley tribune that Mike Bohn is on the candidate list for the vacant AD position at Kansas. It is his alma mater, but I don't see him staying in the Big 12 after what happened last summer with the pac 10 stuff. Any thoughts on this?

I hope it's not true. It would be a real shame to lose him.

:yeahthat:

And KU may be his alma mater, but his ties to CU go back even farther. Unless he's just looking for an out at CU, I would be a bit surprised if that happened...

This scares me. What are the ties to CU that go back farther to which you are referring? I am just curious because I don't know.

I would be really suprized if this happened, as MB I believe grew up in Boulder, and only went to Kansas because at the time CU's program wasnt up to snuff. Also for a 18 year old kid, they always want to get out of their home town untill they actually do, and realize how nice it was there. I think MB will be at CU unless he gets the boot, he has a pretty good thing going here.

MB growing up in Boulder is what I'm referring to. I thought he went to KU because of baseball, but I may be remembering that incorrectly...

Good to read. That eases my concerns somewhat. Hopefully the university is watching what is unfolding at KU and does it's best to make sure Bohn sticks with us.

I have to admit it is possible, but I think he will stay here unless they offer him something he can't turn down.

Yeah, Mike Bohn is going to go work at a Mack 10 school after what he helped orchestrate at CU.

Right.

Bohn is a Boulder guy. Went to BHS. Recruited by Bill Mallory to play at CU, but when Mallory was fired, Fairbanks told Bohn he didn't want him. Bohn was an all-state basketball player, too. He ain't going to KU. No way. No How.

Wasn´t Bohn under some heavy fire from some people towards the end of last season? Did the Pac 12 switch change all that?

The only reason Bohn is under any fire at all is because he's the guy who hired Dan Hawkins. Bohn's hires have been entirely meh. The on-field/court performance of the teams in his department have underwhelmed, and for that, he's taking heat. The fact of the matter is that we're about a million miles beyond where we were the day he took over. A big part of the reason why there was a "scandal" in the first place was because Dick Tharp got crossways with Mary KKKeenan over some kind of deal, and basically told her to bring it. She did. Now they're both gone. Talk about scoarched earth. I can't imagine the clusterfuk this department would be in today if Dick Tharp was still running the show. Fundraising is up, facilities are better, attendance is up, relations with the community/media have improved. There are still some issues, like the ticket office, but overall, Mike Bohn scores an A- with me. He never ducks a question. He never avoids an interview or speaking opportunity. The guy is tireless.

i like how the Pac 10 move works in our favor and, despite my not all 100% in for Bohn attitude, i think we need constancy for the near future to see if the "foundation" and admins we've got can develop and support success. but, KU can probably write a big check...which worries me.

the Pac moved helped Bohn's standing (along with DiStefano since they both played it pretty close to the vest, i hear)....and i think the Boyle hire was favorably received in addition to getting the Bzdelik buyout without controversy.

Do you think Dan Beebe leads those meetings? Or does he just get coffee for DeLoss Dodds?

Another reason to not worry about Bohn going anywhere. At least not to a Mack 10 school. Who in his/her right mind would want to deal with that mess?

And searching for a new conference home might be necessary...what AD wants to deal with that drama?

Guys, if you think we're in the red financially, it's getting much worse at KU. They bounced a $2 mil check to Bill Self and then Perkins turns around and leaves and gets the same amount to leave. I've heard Self isn't happy there and regretting turning down his old school now. Turner Gill was a mistake and we all saw that this past weekend. Things have sucked at CU, no doubt, but we're starting to pull out of the dive and once we replay Hawkins, things will only get better for him.

Usually, the alma mater is a big deal for a guy, but since he's a local guy and wanted to come to CU initially he might see him AD-ship being the righting of his life. KU might just be a school to him.

If they want him and offer him the right money - he may go. I am neutral on Mike Bohn - he does somethings okay but he is lacking in a few other areas. Of course his replacement could be worse.

and this spring's events certainly showed how vulnerable KU is when the Big Texas conference implodes. they just don't have the football tradition and revenue to buttress the hoops program as top tier marketable.....seems. seems like they, too, have the minimum number of scholarship sports which according something i read on a Mizzou board caused MU fans to think (at the time) that that's the reason the Big Ten would choose them over KU. All of which adds up to a lesser conference profile based on the public criteria that was floated by the Pac and Big Ten.

If that's what the dopes in Columbia think, they've gone full retard. Mizzou is the only major university in a large, well populated state with two major metropolitan areas. That's what makes them more attractive to a potential league, not how many varsity sports they have.

I doubt he goes back to the B12 after he just tried to tear it apart. I would be very surprised to see that unless there are some extenuating circumstances that are not out in the open.

KU is imploding...Lew "The Screw" Perkins did not do them any favors, firing the fat man and replacing him with Gill will likely be the biggest boo boo of them all. Hawk shat his pants against Montana St. but at least the Buffs scored in the double digits...only a field goal against N. Dak. St.? Man alive, KU FB is looking like it will die sooner rather than later.

OK, I'm going to put this to rest: Would you prefer Lawrence, Ks to Boulder, Co? Did'nt think so! I've been to Lawrence several times for Buff football games, and granted, it might just be the nicest town in all of Kansas. But Boulder has it beat hands down. Bohn may leave Boulder someday, but I really don't think it won't be for any school in the B12. P12, maybe. And as others have pointed out, going to a Mac 10 school would be a step backwards. This has to be a rumor.

Truth is, I can see Bohn leaving CU (to somewhere), if he doesn't get an Athletic Department budget to work with. He can only do so much where he is at.
