Coach Dan Hawkins surprised by CU Buffs' performance against Cal

News Junkie
Colorado coach Dan Hawkins said he was surprised by the way his team played in a 52-7 loss at Cal over the weekend, but he believes his players will rally with an "electric" Hawaii team coming to Folsom Field this week for the home opener.

Hawkins was asked if a loss of that magnitude was more damaging coming in his fifth year. "I don't know. They're all not fun," he said. "We've got to learn from it, which we do and take bits and pieces out of it and look at it concretely and keep trying to mend it for this week."

You can't mend concrete, you have to blow it up and pour a new slab.

How about you just ****ing resign Talkins! You can't coach! You weren't even a good coach at Boise, it was ALL Petersen!

The I don't know what happened, we looked good in practice bit is getting really old. Perhaps you looked good in practice because you were playing a really really ****ty team.

i stopped reading at "one of the better Thursday practices....".

how many days of the week with supreme significance are there?

I used to think Division Two Danny was a joke, now I think he is a fraud. He's going to weasel every nickel he can get out of CU because he knows he's been found out, and his ride on the gravy train is over. He is not, repeat, is not, able to do the job he has been MASSIVELY overcompensated to do...

It was obvious to me that he's a fraud after last years' CSU game. Any lingering doubt was erased by the Toledo game. He is a fraud. But the thing is, he doesn't think so. He honestly thinks he's just a couple little details short of having a team of world beaters here. So not only is he a fraud, he's delusional, too. He's a fraud who doesn't realize it.

losing to Montana St should have been our first clue-

losing to Montana St should have been our first clue-
True. But I so much wanted to believe we had a quality HC who was a winner. I hung in there believing until ISU last year although the signs, in retrospect, were screaming that the HR was really a foul pop to the catcher.

- Montana St.
-2-10
-ISU '07
-KU retreat to safety in '08
-CSU in '09
-Toledo
-Missouri beating, check that, punking CU repeatedly
-ISU in '09

It's obvious, Coach Care Bear doesn't have it, never had it, and never will have it. He should be mailing 2/3 of his check back to Peterson.

So, he was "surprised" at his team's performance, and he was "surprised" by Cal's speed. Next we'll hear that he is "surprised" by the fans' reaction. He, therefore, will most certainly be "surprised" when I label him Clueless Dan.

I'm surprised he was allowed back into Boulder. Fire Hawkins now. At least we could salvage some dignity that way.

What? That he's nuts, but the only way to get rid of him is for him to say he's nuts, but if he says he's nuts, he can't really be nuts, so we're stuck with him?

Heh. He is without a doubt, nuts, but it does feel like we've been stuck with him. I was thinking along the lines of the dialog that spews out of Yossarian's mouth, reflecting his delirious think box.

I imagine that this is similar to what unfolds between Hawkins and his assistants in the locker room after every big loss.
Yossarian: Those bastards are trying to kill me.
1st Lt. Milo Minderbinder: No one is trying to kill you sweetheart. Now eat your dessert like a good boy.
Yossarian: Oh yeah? Then why are they shooting at me Milo?
Dobbs: They're shooting at everyone Yossarian.
Yossarian: And what difference does that make?
Dobbs: Look Yossarian, suppose, I mean just suppose everyone thought the same way you do.
Yossarian: Then I'd be a damn fool to think any different.

Maybe they look good in practice because Hawkins doesn't know what a good BCS team looks like in practice?

Have any of his offseason trips even been to a BCS program? I'm talking SEC, Big 10, Pac-10, ACC here.

I remember him going to flaaaaaaaaaaarida.

"I think we're just learning," Hawkins said. "We certainly address that. We talk to our guys about that all the time, that bad things are going to happen and you're going to have to work your way through it."

hahaha, yeah guys 54-7 losses to Cal are bound to happen. We also try to tell our team that this kind of thing WILL happen, so why they're surprised we got ran over surprises me.

"I think we're just learning" :wtf:

Yep. Learning to suck even more than last year. This is a nightmare that I can't wake up from.

He "thinks" and is "surprised." When does he actually know something and prepares for it?

We unjustly laid that one at the feet of Barnett saying that he had left the cupboard bare. However bare it was, barnett would never have lost to Montana State. That was the first clue that I missed. My eyes are wide open now though. I still think Dan is a great guy and a great netor for kids. I just think he sucks as a coach. Or sucks at hiring good supporting coaches, which is probably worse.
