Bieniemy.

He's our only hope.

If Hawk can't manage a win in the next few games, send him packing mid-season and have Cabral take over as interim. Either way MB should start courting EB now and have him ready to step in the day after the Husker game. I can tell you one thing, this team would never come out as flat and ill-prepared as the Buffs do now and they'd have the will to win. Let's face it - he's a helluva coach and a better motivator. Plus he knows how to coach and develop players - unlike our current staff. Here's a little taste into how he operates:

Our program is in dire straights. EB understands the intricacies of Boulder, CU, alums, etc. Plus, he's got PAC-10 experience.

MB - GO GET HIM.

I on board with this if we bring Mac back as well to help him for a few years.

Big difference being the RB coach for one of the best backs in the NFL and being a head coach for a college.

I love the fire and intensity that EB has, but I don't know if he is ready for DI college yet. I wish he had some HC experience at some college level.

He can't be worse than DH. I'm willing to take the gamble. I agree, maybe Mac would come back as a special assistant to help out for the first couple years like Jimbo Fisher with Bowden at FSU or Bill Parcels' role with the Dolphins in the NFL. Hell, if the MB fights to keep Hawk, fire his ass and ask Mac to be the AD... Something has to be done!

I believe the head coach sets the tempo, with a good OC and DC, EB will kill it. Have McCartney oversee the program for a couple years to help with the transition and this will be a home run. Promote Cabral to DC, bring back Embree to be your OC, keep guys like Ambrose. All of these guys recruit like mad dogs. McCartney wasn't calling plays, but he set the tempo for the program. Get guys who genuinely want to be at Colorado.

Amen and Amen! Do this and we win 6-7 games next year and the year after 9-10. Mark my words. We have to cut Hawkins out of this program. It gets worse and worse and he can't even get guys like Solder and Miller to play for him. Has to be the coaching and offensive scheme. There's no way we are as bad as we look.

I used to think this way, but not anymore. EB has been a white hot commodity every level he has been. He may not have the XO's background, but he would bring absolute fire and brimstone back to Colorado and say hello to top 10 recruiting classes. Surround him with good assistants and maybe McCartney as coordinator/asst headcoach to mentor him and there is no way this program doesn't at least bring back the attitude. I would love to see this happen!

2012 looms as a step back regardless of class. We graduate a huge senior class in 2011, so I think there is a good chance the new coach could have a better record in the first year than in the second year.

Still a bit unsure about EB, all I want is a true search process. I think the thinking we "must get EB" is the kind of thinking that has led to Bohn zero in on one or two candidates to the detriment of finding the best guy for the job. Let's interview several candidates and go from there.

I can't disagree with you. The one thing I have to say though is that Nebraska knew who they wanted and went and got him, and look at them now. Granted Pelini was a bit more groomed for the position, but they knew they had a guy that loved Nebraska and would bring in passion and credibility, just like EB would. 2012 is gonna happen regardless of who we bring in, but I guarantee you the talent EB could bring in would start healing that hole really fast. I think he has to be a serious candidate for the job, especially before somebody else gets him first.

MB wanted hawk gone last year if my sources were right. And was straight overruled-- mainly due to the school and state budget issues. I don't think anyone wants Hawk gone more than MB right now.

Mac as the HC. EB as the Assistant HC and RB coach. Embree as the OC. maybe after Buill steps down then Embree as teh Asist. HC too. They would kill it in recruiting Cali.

Kind of. Bohn did a great thing for us in the negotiations to fire/not fire him.

I like EB as mich as the next guy, but at this point we need someone with HC experience. We also need a hire that gets recruits excited.

Why does it have to be someone with HC experience?

How much HC experience did Bob Stoops have when OU hired him? Zero
How much HC experience did McCartney have with CU hired him? Zero

I am not worried about head coaching experience.

I get the prior head coaching point, but I think recruits would love to play for EB. Seems like players would run through a wall for him.

EB is a colorado guy and we all like him but I don't think his name alone draws recruits.

CU is not OU and I don't want to wait five years to see the program rebuilt.

We have a small honeymoon period to get recruits excited about the new team to the Pac 12. CU needs to make a BIG HIRE and generate some positive talk about the program. EB is just not that guy yet. He will not get collage football live talking about the Buffs.

I would love to see him return as the OC.

What "big hire" do you think we would be able to get. Do you really think any big name will leave there current job for this. EB was one of the top recruiters in the nation during his stint with CU/UCLA. I remember Maurice Jones-Drew going to UCLA instead of CU because that is where EB went. He knows southern cal and the HS coaches there know him.

Both at least had years of coordinator experience at big-time programs. And neither was a nostalgia hire for the school that hired them.

Pelini was also an Ohio State grad. If the fuskers had gone out and jumped on Turner Gill without considering other candidates, just because he was a fusker, that would be a better analogy.

Most of the players seem to like Hawk pretty well. It takes more than that to make a great coach. Enthusiasm only gets you so far if you don't have a decent game plan.

I agree - and I am not necessarily advocating for Bienemy. I think that he has his positives, but I would like to see him get some coordinator experience before he jumps to a college HC job.

The point of my post was -- CU shouldn't limit itself to people who have been HEAD COACHES. There are lots of good assistant coaches / coordinators out there in the world. I would much rather see CU hire a proven commodity offensive / defensive coordinator rather than hire a WAC / MWC / etc. hot coach.

Publicly they do.

Meh. These are young kids here. I'm sure they trash Hawkins behind his back. I remember Mac's players doing the same thing with him. You may have a better idea Rugged, but I wonder how much of that is just BS **** talking. Every kid does it.

I agree for the most part. I'm skeptical of another hot commodity from a lower level, but I just want the best coach, regardless of where they come from. If we got a shot at a Kyle Wittingham, I certainly wouldn't mind it.

I've mentioned the conversation on here a couple of years ago. It was about Barnett's recruits, so maybe Hawk's like him. I'm not sure anymore, I have less friends on the team that I actually talk to now.

Like I said earlier Rugged. You'd have a better idea on this than I could ever have. It's too bad that things have come to this. I wish they would hurry up and make a move. Something. Anything.

Aside from giving Halk a contract extension...

I would be very encouraged if what Rug is saying about the relationship between the players and Halk is correct. It would mean that there is a lot more hope for these players than I've feared.

That's the thing, I'm not sure anymore. I had talked to the older players who were Barnett recruits who said they don't like him. There were also some Hawk recruits who don't like him I'm sure, but I bet that is the case at every program in the history of the world. You can't be liked by everyone, I just heard it was a high percentage a couple of years ago. Who knows about now.
