Mike Leach to New Mexico?

IF the PAC looks to expand further, NM is going to be so far down the list. I'd try for any of the existing Big 12 teams or Boise St. well before NM's name came up.

This seems to fit with Leach's off-kilter approach to... everything. Any other out-of-work coach? No. Leach? Yes, just because he's a zany dude.

Boise St. has a lot of work to do before a Pac-12 invite will be available. They need to start working on those things ASAP because they would be a nice get for the Pac

Might be a fabrication:

As Operations Manager of 770 KKOB, I can assure you that we never reported on rumor at UNM. It never appeared on any facebook page of 770 KKOB, we never talked about the rumor on our station and never mentioned it on our website.

Damn internets.

Would be great for UNM... I have always liked them. But methinks that Leach could land something better this offseason.

UNM would be pretty high on the Pac's list for future expansion. Let's face it, if competitive football were the only measuring stick, we would have never gotten the invite. It's all about TV sets, both now and in the future. The Pac won't want to surrender the entire state of New Mexico to the Texas market.

When the Pac goes to 16 (and I'm nearly 100% convinced it will at some point), the schools on the short list will be UNM, UNLV, CSU, and Boise. Most of those schools still have a boat-load of work to do in order to bring their athletic departments up to par with what the Pac would require, but expansion probably won't happen for another 10-15 years anyway, so there's time.

Yea, UNM has to be on the list of the Pac's next targets, aside from the Texas schools, of course. I really don't see CSU being on that list.

UNM will need to fire Locksley first, but that's probably not far off.

UNM is far closer to being on the Big 12's expansion list than the Pac's; which would make hiring Leach even more intriguing.

If you are Leach, you could move into the MWC with Texas recruiting ties and a decent fanbase with Utah and BYU leaving the conference, just beat TCU, Boise, and Fresno and you have national respect and coaching opportunities at a major BCS school again.

Next time you're on a recruiting trip in Taos, go to Mantes Chow Cart and get the suzy burrito.

A righteous experience.
