With the game being here in a few days, and we wil be arriving in NW Denver on friday, who does CU have that we need to worry about.

I'll run down UGA real quick for you, both strengths & weaknesses.

OL-Supposed to be our best asset, and has underachieved horribly. They can't run block to save their lives, and the best way they pass block, is by holding.

QB-RFR QB. The kids a stud and a gamer. One of the few bright spots. He makes frosh mistakes at times, like staring down his reciever, but he will be great before he leaves UGA.

RBs-Another supposewd strength, before the season. King is a better blocker, but has been hampered by injuries(again), Ealey, who I thought would shine, has put the ball on the rug, in a couple of bad spots(insdie 10, going in for scores). plus his blocking is atrocious, and has led to a couple sacks in untimely places.

WR/TE-Tavares KIng & Chris Durham have both stepped up. Duraham I figured would, as he's a SR, who missed last yr with shoulder injury. We've been waiting on KIng to play up to his potential, and it seems he may be getting ready to. Our TEs are both studs, that we haven't even utilized.

DL-Weakest area, and we knew it coming into the season. We are thin in depth, and too small for a good 3-4 DL. They get pushed around at the point of attack easily, and can't even seem to eat space. If you guys have any semblence of a running game, it could be a long night.

LB-Houston & Gamble have both been awesome MOST times, unfortunately, they can't do it all. I do look for Houston to at least cause a little havoc in your backfield.

DB-another thin area. Rambo(best name in football), should be playing at a higher level. He sometimes to seems to take plays off, which doesn't make me happy. Also, gets sucked in on play action a lot it seems. Hamilton was highly touted as well, but seems to make more penalties than plays.

Special teams-We have the nation's best P and PK IMO. Butler, son of UGA great Kevin BUtler, won the Ray Guy award last year, adn Blair Walsh, was finalist for Lou Groza award. He is 7-7 on FGs this year, including a 53 yarder.
Not real happy with uor kick/punt coverage, or return. We seem to put Logan Gray in as our PR, when he does nothing but call fair catches. It's like we don't even want to try and return one.

Coaching-Richt is a good coach, IMO, but something seems to be missing in the last couple of years.
We just hired Todd Grantham as our DC. I like the fire and intensity, and I think his 3-4 will work, once he gets his guys in there.

intangibles-CMR and company may be coaching for their jobs. I think the loss to MSU fires UGA up, and they win a close one at the buzzer, with a long kick from Walsh. Either way, I see a very hard hitting game, they may be one of the more entertaining of the year.

Thanks Bill. I asked a Colorado State fan to do something similar becuase I wasn't too familiar with their team and he said I was a prick. I'll write something up on my lunch break when I have more time.

To be fair, he called you an arrogant prick and I clarified by explaining to him that you were a sister-****er.

Thanks for the assessment Bill. Underachieving by both teams aside, I'm really looking forward to this matchup.

If you guys have any semblence of a running game, it could be a long night. You shouldn't worry. Unless our O-line actually shows up for once we aren't in a position to push anyone around. Our best chance is your weak depth and playing at altitude. Maybe we will be able to run in the fourth quarter when your guys are gassed and on oxygen.

Great summary. Thank you.

Great summary. Thank you.

AJ Green(the suspended kid), comes back this weekend. He's the real, deal. He is what I call sneaky, fast. He doesn't look lfast, adn his time isn't great , but he has that football speed. Plus, he runs great routes, jumps like a deer, and knows how to catch(not something every WR knows how to do)

Sounds like Brandon Marshall. We are familiar with that sort of talent. Deceptive football speed and catches the ball over everyone. I was just surprised you didn't mention him.

Yeah, I guess, I was talking about people who had actually played. And I guess since it seems AJ is in the news all over the SEC, y'all would be up on it too, sorry.

Thanks Bill.

I figure if your OL is going to get it going this season, this will probably be the game they start. Typically our luck. Hopefully, our OL decides to do the same. They have not performed yet against anyone with D1 talent so we are hoping the light goes on at some point.

I have a feeling this game could come down to who starts off quicker and gets the momentum. Given our history under HaLk, this is pointing very stongly in the favor of your team.

Well, win or lose, I'm looking forward to getting my picture taken with Ralphie. Stuff like that is what CFB is all about IMO.

Quick question guys...We'll arrive tomorrow, Tell me about the BPD & Univ. PD. especially on gameday. What are the open container laws like? Are solo cups ok if we want to walk around & socialize? Both squads are down this year & I'm looking forward to the tailgating in Boulder as much as I am the game. Appreciate any guidance you can give, I'd hate to spend Sat. evening in the Boulder jail......

I know it's a serious question.

You should be okay as long as you're not a CU football player.

You should be fine in the tailgating areas but would watch out carrying open containers around campus and in the city of Boulder. Haven't been to a CU home game in a while but the BPD are a bunch of pricks.

CU:
Strengths - offense:
WR. We have four guys who can catch and run with the ball. Richardson, Clemmons, Patterson, McKnight. They're all good. They all could end up in the NFL if things go right for them. William Jefferson and Kendrick Celestine add depth and talent to this group. If your team has issues in the defensive backfield, they could be exposed by this group. You can't key on one, because they're all capable of buring you.
OL - sometimes a strength, sometimes a weakness. They have the ability to freaking road grade people. Big, strong and fast, but undisciplined and frankly, poorly coached. Solid depth across the line as well. Were exposed a bit against Cal's speed rushers.
Weaknesses:
QB - Hansen can be good, and he can be terrible. Has a tendency to take off running when his first receiver is covered. Has supposedly been working on this, but needs to improve in this area dramatically for CU to turn the corner. Has a strong arm and is mobile. Decision making is his biggest drawback.
RB - Not so much a weakness, but not much of a strength, either. Adequate, but hardly overpowering.

Defense:
Strengths: DL. Mobile, strong, and deep. They'll be cycling them through a lot on Saturday to keep them fresh and hopefully wear out the UGA OL. Standard 3-4 formation with a linebacker often lining up at end to rush the passer.
LB's: Quick, well coached and aggressive. Decent depth.
DB's: Two NFL caliber CB's, and two quality Safeties. Not much depth, though. Could be an issue, particularly late in games.
Weaknesses: Depth, particularly in the backfield. Held a very high scoring Hawaii team to 13 points. Actually played pretty well against Cal, but was put in far too many bad situations by the offense and special teams.

Special teams: No strengths, only weaknesses. K and P are pedestrian at best. PR Travon Patterson shows flashes, but also booted a ball last week against Hawaii that gave them the ball on 5 yard line. Lots of line drive punts and kicks that bounce off of uprights. This is likely where the differences between the two teams becomes crystal clear. Our special teams is more like special olympics.

Intangibles: Altitude, night game, lots of intoxicated students. Definitely favors the home team. However, if UGA can come out and score quickly, it will take the crowd out of the game, and negate any positive impact from the atmosphere. If CU is smart, they'll start out the game in the hurry-up to wear down the UGA defense as quickly as possible. I doubt our coaches have that kind of advanced gameplan ability.

As for the open container stuff: BPD and CUPD are certified Napoleon complex assholes. However, so long as you're in an area that's a tailgate area, you'll be fine. Outside of that, be cautious. Don't drink on Pearl St. itself, but go into the bars. You will get busted if you're walking down Pearl with an open container. BPD gets hard ons when they see that.

in short, bpd and cupd suck. do not walk around anywhere off campus with a cup, they'll get ya. just be cool on campus and don't give them a reason to **** with you.

They suck is the short answer, they live to write, MIP, DWI, Open Container etc tickets. We've been warned for this season that people outside of the parking lots could also get tickets. If you are in the lot tailgating nice you should be fine, outside of that watch out.

It's tough being a cop on the mean streets of Boulder! When I was a student back in the late 70's, I went to traffic court, and the guy in front of me was fined for speeding down a hill on a skateboard.

Is it just me or would it be nice to see Hansen run a little more? He doesn't seem to be runnign as much this year.

I think he tries too hard not to run this year. There have been times where he could have easily picked up a first down but he doesn't tuck and run. I think the coaches made him a bit trigger shy.

I don't think he is overly durable...every time he runs he seems to take a shot and he gets up pretty slowly...considering our alternatives at that position right now, not sure he should be running a ton...however it would be nice to see him rip a 30 yarder in the first series this weekend...

Spoken like a true Dawg. Exellent question. Hey Dallas, did you go to the OSU game last year in Stillwater?

I honestly think he'll be OK. Yeah, the internet natives will want to crucify him, but the new AD, I don't think wants his first big job to be firing a pretty decent coach, 2 months into his tenure. On the other hand, he may want to put his own stamp on the program as well, so who knows.

I'm with Bill, Richt will get another year. I think it's more about money tho. Richt is on a 4 yr rollover contract at $3,000,000 & DC Grantham & OC Bobo have 2yr contracts at $750,000 & $300,00 respectively. If a change is made after this year the total buyout would be $10,000,000. If the Athletic Dept doesn't roll over their contracts after this year that will drop the total buyout to $6,000,000 after the '11 season if Richt & Co. lay another egg next year. It gives Richt another year to turn things around...if not UGA saves $4,000,000.

And yea Bill, I went to Stillwater last year & to Tempe in '08. It's great that we have started to travel, even tho it sounds like McGarity is looking to curtail it...

LOL,. exactly, don't ever forget the money factor. Did you go to the orangepower tailgate? I can't remember if I met you there or not. Either way, we'll have to hook up somehow on this one.

In addition to Sacky's rundown, I'd add that CU looks like they run a lot more zone nwo, an accurate pocket passer with protection could be trouble. The OL will likely have a few drive killing illegal procedure calls and I'd say the RB's are a little subpar. Small scat back types, not the kind of runners who will wear down a D. And yes, we do have "special" special team play.

No we didn't make the OP tailgate, I posted there a lot before the game. Last year we took off 12 days, took the RV to Fayetteville the week before vs the Hogs. Then we spent 4 days in the Ozarks, visited relatives in Dallas Tx for 2 days & drove up to Stillwater Thur. nite.

We're arriving in Denver at 11:45am tomorrow, driving down to Boulder, We've got 3 suites at the Boulder Outlook (12 of us). Gonna walk around campus & get the lay of the land tomorrow afternoon (try to figure out where everything is). We've got tix for the Colorado UGA Alumni Ass. Tailgate on Sat. 3,000 strong....

After we get our feet on the ground & if feasible I'm gonna try to PM or post here to Skid or someone else about the Allbuffs tailgate. Try to break away from the Dawg gate about 3:30. I've got a granddaughter with us I'd kill for to get her pic with Ralphie. She's has a pic with Uga, but her pic with Ralphie too would make my year. The two top mascots in CFB, not many have their pics with both... I need to hush, the Makers Mark is kicking in, Any more from me tonight will be drunk posting...
