Joe Pa's 83 years old - what's your excuse, Dan?

"Even worse than the lousy offense is the sideline confusion among Paterno's offensive coaches," writes Cook. "It has been ridiculous. Plays have been rushed into freshman quarterback Rob Bolden. Timeouts have been wasted. Delay-of-game penalties have been called. It was so bad after the Iowa game Oct. 2 that more than one Penn State player complained about it publicly."

Cook says that at 3-3 and with the strong possibility of going 5-7 with no bowl game, Paterno's job will be a major topic of discussion the remainder of the season. "The boss should be embarrassed that things have slipped that far," he writes.

fwiw, Joe needs 3 wins to get to 400 for his career. PSU fans are worried that he won't retire at 399.

I think some coaches deserve the right to make their own decisions on when they retire. Joe Paterno is one of those coaches.

Here's Paterno's record over the five prior seasons:

11-1 (Conference champs, Won Orange Bowl)
9-4 (Won Outback Bowl)
9-4 (Won Alamo Bowl)
11-2 (Conference champs, Lost Rose Bowl)
11-2 (Won Capital One Bowl)

And this dip**** columnist thinks Paterno should be fired because they are down this year, and - really - because Paterno is old?? WTF?

There's more going on. JoePa had some undisclosed health issues in the offseason and hasn't been himself. There is no leadership and the coaches are fighting each other. It's actually kind of sad to see it end this way, but it's the end Slade.

I don't feel bad for them. PSU has had an unfair share of success under Paterno. It's time for someone else to shine.

So if Paterno was 53, instead of 83 -- would you think of firing him after his prior five (5) seasons?

If your answer is no, and I can't imagine it wouldn't be, then the ONLY reason you are wanting to fire him is age, and that is wrong, IMO.

Slade,

He has literally lost his ability to function at a high level. At his age, he's not likely to get it back. Play the ageism card if you want, but I supported JoePa when he was in his 70s, had gone through a rough patch with wins/losses, and people were calling for his head. This is different. He is not the same man, he's a shadow.
