Player attitudes re:losing

Hawkins attitude has infected the entire roster. These players, as a whole - I know there are exceptions - don't hate losing.

Every loss the remarks are the same. "XYZ team is really good." Remember when we damn near lost to Eastern Washington and Hawkins had the nerve to come out and say "they are a really good football team" and got pissed when a reporter contradicted him? We hear it every week. "Baylor is really good."

Stewart's interview after the game today was a perfect example. "You win some you lose some." "We have played some tough games at home here." (paraphrasing here).

These guys have a loser mentality and they make excuses for losing. People who are preoccupied with making excuses for their failures will NEVER succeed.

I don't think guys should be jumping off of a bridge after a loss. Football truly IS just a game. But at this level, if you really don't care about losing to a crappy team enough to be even remotely pissed off immediately after the game, then I don't think you should putting on a CU uniform.

I try not to pay much attention to the Twitter feed on the front page but I think it is pretty damn telling that the players who have been here for a long time are constantly making "the sun will rise tomorrow" comments while the newer guys seem pissed when they lose.

Someone needs to be throwing helmets and breaking **** in the locker room. Players need to be getting on eachother when they make mental mistakes. We have appear to have virtually no leadership, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Hawkins has seemingly brainwashed all emotion, passion, energy out of the players in favor of this new-age pseudo-pop-psychology garbage that he espouses at every turn.

Fair or not fair, this group of players will be remembered, as a whole, as a bunch of guys with no fire, not much heart, and no will to win. Hawkin's attitude has had an insidious effect on the entire program.

THe only time CU can be counted on somewhat reliably to win is when they drastically outclass - and I do mean DRASTICALLY - a minor conference team at home only. Even then, they have a bit of penchant for losing - see CSU last year and several other examples. They can be expected to lose literally every road game without fail regardless of who they are playing. This is the sign of a mentally weak, poorly prepared team. The rules of football and the game itself is exactly the same whether you are playing at home or on the road. I understand there can be expected to be a slight difference in results at home/on the road due to natural human reasons, but not to the degree we have observed.

I was listening to the postgame show while driving home from the game. I noticed the same thing. I don't want to call out the players who didn't seem all that upset with the loss (they know who they are). Scotty was an exception. He was upset. And Pericak sounded really broken up and manned up with accountability. Great point though, 04.

I've noticed that too. You have to want to win to win.

Agree as well. I'm really sick of us "tipping our cap" to every team we play each week. Sometimes it would be cool if they would just have to tip their cap to us

Sorry, I talked to several players after the game and they are furious.

They cannot state this in interviews because that is the instructions they are given - The coach talks to them after the game and there is a party line that must be followed. But do not think for a moment that our buffs have become weak little sheep, and that they are happily okay with "coming close" and "hanging in there."

They are not happy, at least the ones I talked to. There's only so much you can do to overcome coaching and player personnel decisions; speaking out against those two things will get you benched or on the injured list even when you feel fine.

Seeing stuff like this is all the more reason Hawk must go now and Mac come in tomorrow as interim if he's willing.

If what AJ saw/heard from the players last night (off the record) is true, and I have no reason to doubt the veracity at this point - then Mac would be perfect at this juncture. His ability to get kids to believe in themselves that they can kick the ever-living s**t out of the other team on the field no matter the circumstances is what this team needs NOW and could use to springboard for a possible good run to the end.

Hell, I think he could even inspire some the current staff to pick up their games too (I'm looking at you Kiesau.) No question that Riddle, Johnson, and Collins walk with Hawk since they are Hawk guys through and through. But I do think there are "salvageable" coaches on the staff - Prince and Ambrose to name a couple. For the Hagan haters out there, though, I think we all know he stays if Mac comes in...I digress.

I really think if Mac could come in now, even as interim, he at least gets the holes patched, stops the flooding and starts the drain pump so the ship of CU Football doesn't sink into the depths of college football nothingness.

Of the coaches, you name: Prince, Ambrose, -- and I'll add Hagan and Cabral to that short list -- they would all have better opportunity to succeed with other HCs. My opinion. I'm not sure about Keisau - but I'd imagine he'd improve with a different guy and different attitude.

I just feel that Hawk handcuffs Kiesau too often. There have been flashes of brilliance at times. That's what Mac was always good at - he let his assistants coach while he stood a watchful eye over them. Mac would step in to provide "guidance" when needed.

Kiesau got thrust into the OC positoin too early, IMO. Maybe with Mac's guidance he could improve and show that he could be a valuable retention.

I have thought this since Mac's name came into the discussion. This team needs a lot of things, but mostly, it needs a leader. I am convinced that Mac can come in here with the current staff (sans Hawkins) and turn the play around quickly. Head coaches don't need to be the X & O gurus... they need to LEAD... INSPIRE... DISCIPLINE.

Truthfully, what do we have to lose at this point?

I keep forgetting Kiesau has the extended contract, too. So whoever is next coach, K. could be around. I'd like to see what he can do under a different regime.
