No Way CU Fires Hawkins Now That His Son Takes Over The QB Spot

I'd love to be wrong but don't see how Talkins gets canned when Cody now
takes over the next five games for medial reasons.

I still think CU should announce that Danny won't be returning but can coach out
the remaining regular season.

Why does Cody playing QB change anything about whether or not you fire Dan? This argument makes no sense. In fact, if Cody has such a good grasp of the offense, it makes the transition easier. What's Cody going to do, sabotage games? If that's the case, bench him and run wildcat with Jefferson or Patterson for the rest of the year.

If this factors into the decision at all then I have a real problem with Mike Bohn. I highly doubt that concerns over hurting Cody's feelings is going to have any impact.

you don't let the entire program continue to crater in a spectacularly awful way because you are worried about hurting one player's feelings. this is not about the hawkins family, as much as danny made it about them when he brought his kid here to play.

this is not THEIR program. it is our program. it belongs to all of the players, students, faculty, fans, boosters, alumni, and community. for the greater good, this coach needs to get fired NOW. if the kid can't handle it and quits (which i highly doubt he would do and i doubt his dad would encourage him to do), then pull the shirt off the frosh and let's roll.

we are on the verge of witnessing a total meltdown. with a change, maybe the players get coached up and it helps them for next year. plus, we'll all have some hope again.

i think this is what the rumored announcement was supposedly about on 10/26

I dislike the concept of having a lame duck finish out the season.

Disrupts recruiting, makes you distrust decisions (every redshirt burned, necessary or not, will appear to be screwing the program), and puts the players in limbo.

If you were firing an employee for cause, would you let him or her hang around and run the company for two more months? Didn't think so.

So I don't know what they could be announcing.

awkward position CU is in.

Awesome! Our remaning QB's suck so bad that we will just run wildcat the rest of the season and not have a QB.

Didn't Washington do that with Ty Willingham... announce that he would finish the season but would not be back?

fwiw, Washington ended up with the 2nd worst recruiting class in the Pac-10 that year. They were outside the national top 50 and the only 4* they signed was a juco (and juco 4*s are not the same caliber as high school 4*s).

do you see our class not finished dead last in the Big 12 this year?

This would be the stupidest idea ever. If the fanbase knew that Hawkins was retained only because of Cody, Cody will surely get booed every time he takes the field. He doesn't deserve that.

Any decision must be based on what is best for the program, not any individuals. We are 3-4. Five games remain. We need to go 3 - 2 to qualify for a bowl and, lets face it, most teams that get to six wins go to a bowl. We will likely lose to OU and 'braska, so we must win at Kansas, and at home against ISU and KSU. It is still doable. I don't think they will make a change until there is no chance of bowling remaining.

We're rated ahead of Iowa State right now despite them having 15 verbals and us only having accepted 5 so far. Looks like we've got a good chance at passing Baylor and Kansas, too, just by continuing to get commitments from players similar to what we've already gotten... then filling the class.

Anyway, I wasn't making any conclusions based on the Washington situation. It is a case study to look at, though. I would have thought that Sarkisian could have come over from USC (hired 1st week in December) and pull together a better class than that.

hey.... I don't like the situation but think Hanson's injury really screws thing up even more....
I wonder if Bohn has a clue.

Disagree and I am confident that Bohn, Benson, Dr. Phil, etc. don't give two ****s who the starting QB is.

Disrupts recruiting? CU's recruiting is in the crapper as it is, how is getting rid of hawk now going to make it any worse?

No way should the fact that TH is out for the season factor into whether Hawk is fired before the end of the season. If Cody can't deal with it or doesn't like it, then he gets benched or can quit. That's up to Cody to deal with, not the new/interim staff.

I'm all for firing him now, but I don't see it happening before the season is over.

Getting rid of Dan now would take a lot of pressure off of Cody. No longer would he feel the need to defend stupid coaching decisions, or bad play calling.

Regardless of who calls the plays, or sends in the incorrect personnel, ( Not giving Riddle an out ) the outcome falls squarely on the HC.

The remaining coaches will be auditioning for future positions. Give them the opportunity to try things they have always wanted to do without having to look over their shoulder or to be overruled. It might be fun.

I am looking forward to both of them being gone. Cody's classless remarks yesterday were totally unforgivable and an enormous insult to every tuition-paying student and alum at/from CU. He is an entitled piece of **** and the "good kid" rhetoric no longer rings even slightly true with him.

I really didn't think what Cody said was that bad at all. Especially when it's aimed at newspaper reporters.

I assume this is the quote that got you in a hissy fit.
"There are a lot of people out there talking and a lot of people who say different stuff," Cody Hawkins said. "But the same bad things you say about our football team, I'm saying the same bad things about you guys (the media). So I guess it works both ways."

He's a jerkoff and a miserable quarterback. I think he sucks in every conceivable way, to be clear.

The kid is a proven loser and he has no business running his mouth to anyone, much less the fanbase that has tolerated his terribleness much more than any other "big time" school would.

You can defend him all you want, but the fact remains that CU may or may not be better if we put Boulder High's current quarterback on the field next Saturday. Cody is one of the worst quarterbacks in the history of college football, and he has the balls to call out the fans. I am done making excuses for him. He is a douchebag and he sucks at football. There is nothing to like.

His play has been a national embarrassment for four years.

 When did I defend his play? Cody shouldn't be playing for CU right now.

Big words coming from an internet message board.

IMO, this is even MORE a bullet in the gun to fire Hawkins NOW.

Scenario 1) Hawkins is retained. We continue to lose our Big 12 games (especially on the road) with no legit backup QB (unless we pull another redshirt), finish the season under .500 and out of bowl contention. All of the Hawkins are gone after the season and a new coach has to scramble to put together a recruiting class.

Scenario 2) Hawkins is retained. Somehow we turn things around and manage a 6-6, or 7-5 bowl-bound season. This "validates" Hawkins belief in his kid and gives him a "told you so" bullet to fire at his critics and might make some admins reconsider terminating him. Recruits are still in limbo, and if he is still fired, a new coaching staff has even less time to work with and might lose more players and commits that have faith in Dan.

Scenario 3) Hawkins is terminated. We lose most of the rest of the Big 12 games, finish under .500 and out of bowl contention. However, a new coaching search can begin immediately with an interim HC that can salvage a recruiting class and send a signal to everyone that we are serious about winning.

Scenario 4) Hawkins is terminated. We somehow turn it around with an interim HC and go bowling. The new staff or interim staff will have better momentum to sell to recruits, more practice time and the need to have fired Hawkins will be painfully obvious to everyone (current players and recruits especially).

None of those scenarios where Hawk is terminated scare me at all at this point, but scenario 2 REALLY scares me.

Therefore... FIRE HAWK NOW!
