OU is a big game for hawk, they seem to think that Hawk will go by Monday if we get Blown out tomorrow. Other Gems:

Cabral Would be the interim
Mac Interested
Mike bohn might be going to KU
Mac Might be the next AD
EB could be the head coach
Dave logan not an option because he is a high-school guy

This qualifies as F'ing reporting? Or as their twitter feed called it "Big CU football news?" all of that has been re-hashed ad-nauseum already.

I have given up hope on Hawk going anywhere before the end of the season. I'll keep rooting for the kids and swearing at the TV until then...:pissed:

According to John Henderson - you're booing the kids. Stop booing the kids.

Like I said in another thread, the local media guys no less than we do. The only two that know anything are CJ and Klatt. CJ more that Klatt. And CJ isn't talking.

Other than Bohn going to KU, which aint happening, they've done a good job culling the message boards for the rumors of the week.

First off, like last week, we will sit here and bitch because bohn will do NOTHING and say NOTHING after each loss. As expected, he will wait until after the nebraska game so get ready to be pissed off and frustrated.

Second, **** OFF AND DIE Henderson, you trash cu every chance you get and then try to make it like cu fans are booing the players. STFU you piece of **** and get out of colorado dick sucking wuss.

You are my hero!

I am amazed at how effectively the AD has managed to keep actual information from getting out. Kind of working from what DBT said, very few in the media (or anywhere else) know what they are talking about and the ones who do aren't talking.

I don't know any more than the rest of us here but am waiting for the boom to be lowered on Hawkings. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens as early as Tuesday. The election will no longer be a concern and the Buffs will likely be coming off another "stellar" road performance where they get blown out by a pissed off OU team.

At the same time it also wouldn't surprise me if they waited till after the kNU game to officially announce the firing figuring that this season is toast already.

Is there some issue on the ballot that pertains specifically to CU, or to funding higher education? What on earth would Tuesday's election have to do with firing CU's football coach?

The biggest issue is the cost of the buyout. Had Hawkins been fired at the end of last season the buyout would have been about $3.1 million, at the end of this season it will be a little under $2 million if the figure I have read are correct.

There were and still are boosters who are willing and able to step up and cover the cost of the buy out so it will not come out of AD funds. AD funds are also separate from the university so this would not impact the rest of the university in any way financially.

The problem is that the state of Colorado is in its biggest budget crunch in decades. Funding is being cut across the board in virtually every area of the budget that is discresionary for the legislature including higher ed. Legislators are battling to move available funds to their particular schools or schools in their part of the state and CU is fighting hard to keep what it can. In the highly charged political climate leading up to an election candidates don't worry about if something is true, only if they can present it in a way to gain votes. CU paying out "millions of dollars" to a guy not to coach football after doing the same with the prior coach would give a bunch of these candidates an issue on which to campaign. They would scream at the top of their lungs "If CU can afford to pay millions to football coaches that they have fired then we can move that wasteful spending someplace else." Once they have campaigned on it a number of them will feel compelled to actually vote this direction once they are elected, again ignoring the facts around the issue.

Much easier for Benson and his staff to wait until after the election is over and the payout can be explained in its true context of where the money is coming from, what it doesn't impact, and the importance of the athletic program to the university, which can't all be done in a battle of election soundbites.

The timing of when Dan Hawkins is let go will have very little to do with the election, if at all.

if OU hangs a 55-10 type game on us, it might happen. but, really, i think Hawk is good until Nebraska puts an L on us. that's the safe move for Bohn. Hawk is the kind of guy who will shoot his mouth off....and being 19-40, losing to Nebraska to close the "era".....not a lot you can say to the contrary.

This is possible but if you think politics doesn't have an impact on this then you haven't paid much attention to how things are done in Colorado higher ed. Benson is a political animal, he got the job due to politics and a huge part of his job is politics. Guys like Benson frame everything they do in light of how it effects the political situation.

When Barnett was fired, even a number of the politicians and media who were loudly calling for his head turned around and complained about the buyout money he got. It doesn't matter if these people make sense or know what they are talking about, they can still influence decisions that are important to the university.

The firing of Hawkins may not be tied to the election but if you think that the fact that he is still here isn't politically influenced and the question of when to fire him isn't politically influenced then you are looking at a different Benson and a different state than I am.

I mean, honestly, at this point, we only have 1 month left of Dan Hawkins. That's it. The AD has ridden it out to this point. I suspect he stays thru Nebraska.
