By waiting at least a season too long to terminate Hawkins and his merry band of ass clown surrender monkeys they have put the program in a truly horrible position. They are so lucky that the move to the PAC went thru.

Bohn as you say should have fired him last year. It seems he was cut off at the pass by distefano and other turds. But, he is doing himself no favors by acting like a puss and saying nothing after each loss.

To play devils advocate here (disclaimer -- I wanted Hawk gone after last season & was pissed he was retained), but what were the coaching choices had we made a move? Remember, there was no excitement about a move to the Pac and I thought there were a good number of other coaching positions open so there would have been a lot of competition for getting a top HC that we wanted.

Ok, end of devils advocate. Should have fired Hawkins last year and by retaining him, we've hurt ourselves pretty badly and severely damaged the public perception of the program.

Class choice between a rock and a hard place, or frying pan and fire.

The problem is, if he's not taking this seriously anymore because he knows he's out in less than a month, it's horribly unfair to players ... and fans ... and donors ... just about everyone who is watching the games. I can't even imagine how sick these seniors feel about the year is going.

Assuming Bohn did want to fire him, and I believe he did, here's where he messed up. He should have played some hardball with Hawk and told him to make some staff changes or else. I don't doubt that Hawk could be a decent HC if he surrounded himself with some competent assistant coaches.

Either way, Bohn has much better insight into the program than we do, if Hawk is still recruiting and trying hard etc. If Bohn thinks he is and thinks keeping him as HC is the best chance for us to win a game, then so be it. He'll fire his ass in the post game press conference of the Nebraska game and hopefully not hire another dud.

fify

we are going to fire Hawk at the end of the year and get a really good coach, I hope. But guess what, we are still going to be a couple years away from competing with teams like OU. They man handled us, the talent disparity was huge.

I think you bring up a good point. While I have no idea who we would have gotten had we fired Hawkins last year, I'm pretty certain that the job is viewed more positively today by potential coaches than it would have been back then.

True, probably is viewed more positive then last year after debacles with CSU and Toledo, but I think with a new coach at the beginning of this year, better scheming, and better gameday coaching, our schedule lined up nicely for a 8 win season heading into a bowl game. This would have been great momentum for our leap into the PAC-12, so I think our choice to retain Talkins was asinine.
