Link to good article on the mess at CU.

The author makes some good points. I attended a function hosted by C J and the alumni association in early 2006.

After listening to Charles give a rousing speech, Hawk stood up, said a few words, and then helped himself to the buffet table and sat down to eat with his wife.

Hawkins ignored everyone in the room and made no effort to talk or mingle with the crowd... a total 180 from Gary. The room and enthusiasm died. As soon as the bar was closed, everyone left.

I had heard whispers from some donors and Barnett supporters about this type of behavior, but figured it was just sour grapes.... I'm glad I was able to see it first hand.

I wish someone would

I wish someone inside CU athletics would print the article and nail it to Hawkins' and Bohn's office doors.

You would think that Bohn, who is very energetic fund raiser, would have put something in Hawkins' contract extension that would require Hawkins to do more for booster/alumni relations, but I guess not.

His relationship with the Boosters wasn't good. I just don't understand why you would ignore the boosters who are going to help your program out. I know many boosters are arrogant assholes themselves, but this is apart of the deal. If you want to be a top coach in CFB, you have to make nice with the douchebag boosters.

I know not all big boosters are jerks, but a lot of them are.

Yup, great article. I couldn't find who wrote it, was it some poster/blogger?

Thats because thats what it is. It's unsubstantiated rumor. That being said I heard or read on the internet almost everything that was in that article over the course of the last year, year and a half. That articles has things in it that few people in the admin would go on record about or admit that each event happened.

Am I alone in thinking this article is ****?

The media quotes are attributable, but have been discussed already.

Other parts of the article read like insider information, but are absolutely without attribute. I'm sorry, but "those close to the administration", blanket statements about how boosters feel or wild speculation do not serve as the foundation for a good article.

Is the article true? Does it reflect the opinions of those closest to the school and those who contibute most? I don't know, but I'm left with the feeling that it's one person's speculation. If the author wants to convince me, he'll need to provide credible quotes to support his view.

I know the whole booster story is true. Hawk acted like his time was too important to spend time with any of them. He spent most of the time on his cell phone/Texting while meeting with them.

I can tell you the donor and booster part is true. The kickoff luncheons have become totally boring because Hawkins could care less about engaging the fan base. When Barnett did them you left wanting to put on your pads yourself and hit someone. I can tell you at a few events I have gone to Hawkins is totally unengaged with the attendees. I don't go much anymore...it is too frustrating and not rewarding.

Everything written on the internet is true. He said he had sources, how is that not fact enough for you?
