One thing you would like to see from the next coaching staff

It can be funny or serious, anything goes.

I would like to see them ditch the crappy hybrid 3-4 scheme we are running on defense. Move back to a true 4-3 and get a real pass rush for a change.

Absent winning I see no point in wishing for anything else. The could where pink tiaras for all I care. So long as they win.

Recruit. Lead. Win. Develop the talent they have (I'm sick of players hitting the wall in their sophmore year). Show us what real coaching is. Turn Paul Richardson into a super stud receiver (he looks good so far).

Blame Hawk for burning the program to the ground.

Oh, and hold on to any 28 point 4th quarter leads.

And recruit a kicker.

blocking and tackling practice.

in the post Toledo week presser Hawk bragged about telling Dick Tomey that his Boise teams never practiced tackling. it's on youtube.

also, more physical practices. every time i go by the practice fields, seems like CU is in shorts and shoulder pads. and we're soft on Saturday, get pushed around in the 4th q......hmmm?

Honestly, I'd like an identity to be associated with the team/style of play. Personally, I'd love to be known as a tough defensive team that plays hard nosed football.

No matter what though, I something that we can clearly recruit to, I don't care what offense (spread, pistol, power I, west coast, ...) but I want something that is consistent from year to year.

While I want a great coaching staff and scheme, here is my first concern:

There must be a MAJOR shift in the financial and administrative support of CU football and athletics from the university. Without this shift, no matter who you hire we are going to struggle to compete. By many accounts here this may be happening, but I will believe it when I see it.

Edit: In no way should this post be considered in support of DII. It is clear DII could not have won here even with the best of support from the university. Saturday's game at KU is your most recent data point.

I am not at all saying that Colorado has shown tremendous financial support for their athletic departments - but consider:

Indoor practice facility -- ok, so it's a bubble, but there is one now.
New practice facilities for men's and women's basketball -- currently under construction.
New suites / stadium expansion -- done.
Football locker rooms recently remodeled.

Would I like to see more? Certainly. But let's not categorize it as some type of barren wasteland.

The biggest problem CU has in these things is FUNDING. CU's donor pool is historically poor. CU's donor pool is much more in line with Iowa State, but CU's donor expectation is more in line with Oklahoma State. CU receives donations in $500 denominations - not $50,000. Sure, there are some donors at CU who donate 5+ figures. A couple. Not a hundred.

This is not a new trend. This has been ongoing for almost 20 years now. Even when Gordon Gee was CU's president - a time most people believe was the highlight of "friendliness" between the AD and the University -- it's not like they were getting a boatload of money. They made the best with what the had.

People gave him all kinds of **** when he said it, but Rick Neuheisel was right - CU has everything money CAN'T buy. It's been that way for 20+ years, and I doubt that is going to change any time soon.

Responsibility - earn it, take it, live it and win with it. Also recruiting and did I mention winning!

This is exactly my point. If they want to compete they need to spend. The arms race has changed from when Dal Ward was one of the best. While I think MB has done a good job of getting what improvements he can, we are still leaps and bounds behind most schools and at least some of this is attributable to that fact that this university has expected football to fund the entire athletic department.

While I would never categorize it as some type of barren wasteland, if we are not committed to good to great facilities than we cannot have a good to great program. This is the reality of college football today. This is a major profit/professional sport and must be run like one if you want to compete.

I recognize none of this is new to CU and its donor base and has been ongoing for 20 years. I am just writing that a renewed commitment to athletics by the university and money to the football program will be needed first before we can expect a coach of any caliber. Just like Bzdelik.

I agree with you --- but the money has to come from somewhere. CU's athletic department is pretty strapped as it is. Where is the money going to come from to build an indoor practice facility? Where is the money going to come from to build new stadium improvements? It doesn't just grow on trees.

A conditional contract that allows for a lower buyout if he fails to get to a bowl game after three years. Conversley, the ability to give an extension by a year if the team gets 8 - 9 wins.

Also, someone that doesn't have to bring a lunch pail to wok.

It seems as though we are arguing the same point. At least some of the money needs to come from the university. If one thing is clear, the football program cannot support the entire athletic department. At CU, if you want to compete, you cannot expect donors to carry the entire load because it will never happen.

Recent rumors seem to suggest the university understands this now. I just hope they are true and I look forward to hearing it from the university.

This all started with me posting that we first need to hear about the renewed commitment to football and athletics before we worry about coaches. I would imagine they are telling this to prospective coaches. But I also would imagine such coaches are going to respond in a way Bzdelik did.

Sorry, I know you said one thing, I just can't help it.
-A BCS school background (preferably as a coordinator).
-An understanding that running the football when you have a big lead=running the clock out and preserving a W
-A ****ing brain!
-Not bring his kid here
-Don't talk so much **** about how good we're gonna be and then fall flat on your face
-Try to have good practice weeks, not just on Tuesdays
-Don't have stupid ass comments that embarrass the school
-win some ****ing road games for christs sake!

An effective communicator. I have no idea what the **** Hawkins is talking about 80-90% of the time.

a Motivator. A coach that will light a fire under the players asses, and get them to perform at or above their potential.

Offensive identity, I don't care which one it is, but lets be consistent.

Aggressive defense

Above all else, good special teams play. Not just a kicker that can make a 41 yard field goal, but good coverage units, good punting, good returning.

More cool speeches about intramurals. Gotta update that **** since we are in the pac12 now.
