Henderson on 87.7 - Totally Ripping CU

Belotti is a tool. No way we need someone like him at CU. Look Henderson is Henderson. It has actually been kind of weird the last year or two. We have been so irrelevant, not even Henderson was taking the time to rip on us. Looks like we may be heading in the right direction if he is feeling the need to write about CU again.

He's worried that we might actually hire a guy worth a damn and will end up taking Oregon back behind the wood shed on a regular basis in 3-4 years. Facilities are the only thing that Oregon has that CU doesn't - Get a coach who can win here and we can build those. Once other schools catch up to Oregon in facilities he knows the gig is up. You can only build so many weight rooms, box seats and practice facilities. Look at Texas, yeah they are the big dogs with the money right now but honestly they already have built everything and there is really nothing more to do facilities wise there and they are still losing with all that money, talent and coaches. As far as Oregon goes, who wants to play in rainy ass Eugene when you could be walking around campus with snow on the ground and its 70 degrees and sunny - Just like Scotty said that helped sell him.

And Jesus Christ I'm so sick of hearing about Dave Logan and I don't even live there. They are such hypocrites - Coach Mac couldn't get it done because nobody knows who he is....Do you honestly think anybody outside of Colorado knows who the **** Dave Logan is? They will take one look at him and laugh there ass off.

Can one of you local guys call in and please say that buff fans don't want ****ING LOGAN!!

One of the things that Henderson said, was that we propbably won't be able to bring in a decent HC for $2 million. What CU should be focusing on is a coordinator, that $2 mil would be a raise. The coordinator should be from a BCS conference as well.

He also insinuated that any coordinator worth a damn.. he used Mazlhan as an example, are sh***ng tall cotton, can pick and choose any job they want... and wouldn't be interested in coming to Colorado

that is mind bottling since i am pretty sure his second favorite team the huskers pay their coach 2million.

Is there anywhere that lists current HCs and their salaries?

I'd be interested in how many coaches actually make $2m.

No money + poor facilities + no longer a power house + Hawkins Tenure = a whole lot of selling to do in order to land a top notch coach.

The Colorado head coaching job is no longer what it use to be, just about anyone would have lined up for it when coach mac left back in the 90's today it's hard to attract a top notch coach to come here when in some places they're already paying their assistants 1.5-2 mil a year.

That's ridiculous, there are 29 coaches in D1 that make over $2m, probably half of those are worth it. There are plenty of excellent HCs that can be had for $2m.

Still looking for the post, but there are, I think, 3 coaches in the Pac-12 that make more than $2m. The majority are in the $1.5m range.

I believe Mullen from Miss State is the 3rd lowest paid HC in the SEC at 1.2 million. I would think he would listen if we offered 2 million or a little less with incentives.

Well then. CU might as well drop their football program. No point in beating a dead horse.

Isn't $2M in the upper half of the Pac10?

Yes it is. If we can guarantee someone $1.5-$2.0 and throw camps, bowl bonus etc on top we should be able to have a decent search. Here is the most recent that I could find. From 2009.

1. Pete Carroll: $4,386,652
Given the Trojans’ success/revenue, I’d argue he’s underpaid relative to the coaches immediately below him on this list.

2. Jeff Tedford: $2,807,500
Getting paid like a heavyweight — he makes almost as much as Mack Brown and more than Georgia’s Mark Richt — which means he needs to win like a heavyweight.
3. Steve Sarkisian: $1,833,333
Defensive coordinator Nick Holt, at 600k/annually, is one of the nation’s highest-paid assistants.
4. Dennis Erickson: $1,502,643
Based on how the Devils have performed since the end of ‘07, I’m more interested in Erickson’s buyout than his salary.
5. Chip Kelly: $1,500,000
That breaks down to more than $200,000 per career victory.
6. Rick Neuheisel: $1,276,000
Check back this time next year to see if he’s earning it.
7. Mike Stoops: $1,265,000
About time for another extension. (It’s been all of six months since the last one.)
8. Mike Riley: $950,000
As I’ve written before, he’s the greatest value in Pac-10 sports given how successful the Beavers have been the past 3+ seasons.
9. Jim Harbaugh: N/A
Believed to be in the $750,000 range, with a $1.25 million (or more) extension pending. Arguably the second-best bargain in the league.
10. Paul Wulff: $601,000
Has he considered giving any of it back?

Henderson will continue to rip CU. Newspaper writers make a pretty skimpy living for the most part. The way to make money is to stir the pot. That's what Henderson is doing. Responsible journalists, like Patrick Ridgell, eventually leave the industry, knowing that they can't break through without sensationalism. Look at guys like jim Rome, probably one of the sleaziest humans around, but he cashed in by calling Jim Everett "Chrissy" Everett.

Hiring someone that has NOT coached well west of the Mississippi will be a mistake. You need someone with built in contacts out west to get the ball rolling quickly.

I don't agree with the notion it has to be a former Buff or have coached in the west. Mac was an assistant at Michigan, I'd take a risk on somebody from the east like Saban.
